Because it's a mostly raster based image editor you mong. I now almost exclusively use inkscape for drawing stuff and even raster image editing (little known fact).

But seeing as how I am replying.. is there a Linux equivalent to media management progs, Lightroom, maybe Bridge say, or Portfolio, which I dont think is still made? GIMP is maybe many things, not many of which good, but I doubt its a Lightroom equivalent, in that sense, havent tried it in an age tbf.

Lightroom is more about non-destructive RAW editing. Organizing and import are a pretty small part.
