if you were planning on buying a dac as well then you should have just saved an extra hundred or two for STAX. if you weren't planning on buying a dac then you didn't really need an amp in the first place for that hd6xx unless you planned on doing EQs like bass boosting which the hd6xx or hd600 aren't good headphones for in the first place

Some deaf faggot posted a mod for the Bosshifi B8s that consisted on putting plasticine on the back on the driver and putting cotton on the earcups. This supposedly tames the treble and bass, making it a more mid-centric headphone.

Being the gullible retard that I am, I went to store to pick up some plasticine and cotton balls and proceed to follow his instructions. Anyways, the mod sounds like shit, bass is distorted, mids sound unnatural, like fucking aliens, the treble became extremely recessed and lost all the microdetail. Needless to say that I spent the next hour digging out plasticine from my headphones. Fuck Head-fi, and fuck me for trusting some retard on the internet.

If you can get audio out from your computer, then yes, it has a DAC. It’s just that it could be anything from good enough to pure shit (literal buzzing when doing shit on PC) depending on how it is implemented on the mobo.

Mobo dac/amp quality can't really be inferred too heavily from a spec sheet as far as I know, it's the implementation that matters

I had never seen a direct correlation between veiled headphones and certain frequency response.
I wonder what of the HD600 then? They were often described as veiled by many.

I understand that tying words to measurements is a difficult subject, due to one being subjective and other being objective, but it was one subject I really wanted to do further research in (academic research, that is). Really interested to know how you came to his conclusion.

The HD650 is the "veiled" one. My hypothesis is that it's up to two things:
- Darker thus less treble = veil
- Significant (more than HD600) upper bass hump = veil

What's interesting or not is the music, not the headphones. Neutral (ideally) means the music is given to you as-is. With audio, you can "enrich" this and that, but you'll erase more and more actual detail on the way.

Not really. It has neutral midrange which makes vocals great, but it also has a midbass hump, very strong subbass rolloff and somewhat recessed areas in treble. It’s not as neutral as people tend to say and because of that, if someone finds HD600 boring, it would be too hasty to say that neutral headphones suck.
