great gpu for company of heroes

my 4870 pissed on this flat piece of shit

intels teaser for their 2019 gpus was a single slot

will be lol if its single slot and like 3x faster than a 2080ti and only 300$ intel has the power nvidia and amd are poverty teir and like 1/100th of the size of intel.

i think about it atleast twice a week

I do not

I had 2 3870s in crossfire at that time.

good times

Everyone on my teamspeak (6 regulars) had an GTX 8800 and every single one died within 2 years.
Fucking dreadful card.

Can someone explain the woodscrews and 580 meme? I've seen it several times here and quite don't get it. They used them on that card?

web.archive.org/web/20100819220547/http://www.semiaccurate.com:80/2009/10/01/nvidia-fakes-fermi-boards-gtc/

the gtx 580s used for publicity shots were dummies bolted together with literal wood screws because nivida didn't have a working prototype, and so Jow Forums memed about nvidia btfo etcera ad infinitum. like 8 years later, nothing's changed.

doesn't even make sense, 480 was the first Fermi card, and also the one that consumed insane amounts of power (500-series was the slightly better update), plus the 590 was the card that actually blew up due to driver issues (youtube.com/watch?v=sRo-1VFMcbc)

>tfw based cpu history but completely lackluster gpu history

Based GPU. I had the 9800GT, which came out a year later, and was pretty much the same thing except it was on a smaller die, so it used less power. Performance was otherwise the same. It was $100 and I used it until 2015. It's now in a random PC at my parents house, still chugging along doing basic tasks like email and web browsing, but always ready to start up a game of S.T.A.L.K.E.R or CS:GO.

I remember it well, it kicked the bucket on the old computer this year after having been resurrected with a heat gun for more than twenty times over the last 4 years.

Rest well 8800 GT, you've lived your life fully.

>it kicked the bucket on the old computer this year after having been resurrected with a heat gun for more than twenty times over the last 4 years.
Damn that's dedication. Would've replaced it a long time ago

>pretty much the same thing
it _was_ the same thing, they literally slapped a new sticker on unsold 8800 GT's and updated the firmware to say 9800 GT

>crysis at medium settings 45 fps

Not really, that was in the early 2000s. Geforce 4.

it was affected up until 2007. 8800gt was relevant around 2006-2007

so it was no slots? like, how do you even hold it, wouldnt it cut thru the atoms of your hands? teach me your boomer super powers

I had 2 of these babies. Good cards for the time

Post your GPU history

>Asus 3850 512mb
Had it for 6 years - got it when I was like 14 and couldn’t afford anything else until 20-21

>XFX R9 270X 2GB
Had for 2 years - managed to scrape together enough NEET cash for a new pc - it’s still a pretty good PC i5 4590, 16gb ram, ssd etc

>MSI 1060 6GB
Upgraded mid last year. Finally got a job so I could afford to upgrade, the 270X was struggling to max out the latest games on 1080p.

Can’t really see any reason to upgrade anytime soon. Maybe I’d like CP2077 and RDR2 are ever released on PC and I can only play them on like medium, but I doubt that since only I’m only running 1080p now

>1998: ATI Rage 128

8600 GT - started displaying artifacts after a electric surge
9600 GT - would black screen randomly the day I got it
Radeon 4870 - Used it for many years until driver support stopped, the fan died so I rigged a leftover cpu cooler to it
R9 270X - Used it for years until one day it started displaying artifacts on the BIOs and black screen on the desktop
RX 460 - Worked great and used it for a while but it was starting to show age
GTX 1060 - My current GPU

That's the card i'm still using. Haven't found a reason to upgrade yet.

Nvidia Mx400 upgraded
ATI 9800Pro died from OC
ATI x850xt upgraded

casuals

I had a pentium 4 and a geforce 6200 until 2010 fuck my life

Pascal still couldn't convince me, I'm too entwined with AMD drivers at this point to purchase anything else.

ati x1650 - liquid damage (whole pc actually lmao)
gtx 460 - this one got furmark'd
gtx 560ti - bought 3rd hand off a friend for nothing, sold full price 2h after noticing artifact, buyer never complained, probably minecraft
gtx 660 - gave to my brother
gtx 780 - have this since 2014, don't really play gayms anymore

i don't know what i had before the x1650 but probably an mx4 or something like that

Did I give you my 780?

Are there any (decent) single-slot cards currently available?

who knows, i buy most of my shit second hand, i was living in london when i got it heheh

>you know remember what aesthetic cooler design looked like

i remember it, but i had the 9600GT. bfg blower fan oc edition. my dad uses it now, and it has pic related attached + 120mm noctua fan attached. still works just fine

Of my personally built systems
>GTX 260
>HD6950 2gb I got for cheap
>GTX 770
She's still rockin fine, but I'm going to see about grabbing a cheap 570 or maybe 1060 on cyber monday. That'll be my last upgrade for this system before a totally new build when CPU upgrades start mattering again.

Geforce 2MX
Radeon 9800XT
Radeon X850XT
GTX 660 (broke)
R9 270X (broke)
1050 ti

3Dfx was dying since they kept rehashing Voodoo 2+ and pissed off their card partners by buying up STB and making their own brand of cards.

Rampage was too little too late.

FX series was literately a die-shrink NV2x a.k.a Geforce 4 with imcomplete-DX9 support that they called "NV3x".

That's why it got stomped hard by R3xx family. Nvidia got back with NV4x a.k.a Geforce 6xxx-7xxx familes.

Just bought a 1070 Ti, upgrading from a 670. What should I expect?

nearly 3x graphical performance assuming you aren't CPU-limited.

it wasn't odd, it was made to match the memory bus

i see my nephews growing up fast and i think "man, time just flies by"
but then i look at gpu release cycles and time slows down

I finally upgraded, this thing was a beast back when Crysis came out

Attached: GPU.jpg (2125x1196, 791K)

1080p screens were a thing back then
it couldn't fucking do 1080p at 60fps in crysis at max settings.

It was a thing back then like 4k gaming is a thing right now, available but not the standard

i can do 4k just fine in doom on my 1080ti, for example. i can run it fine with AA at 60 but i don't need it, so i get over 60.
doom is not that demanding but i'm just talking raw power/screen res ratio here. things are pretty sweet. there's room for a lot more, though

I'm effectively still using one.

Even Nvidia themselves got into the fun:

I unironically used mine until 2016.

I bought a 9800GTX+ :(

I was so stupid back then

>Riva TNT2
Computer stolen while I was at school because mom forgot to lock the rear patio.
>Geforce3
Not sure which model but mom gave computer away because I was "dewrenching" it

>GeForce FX5200
Still sitting on my desk after decomissioning it since it could not play oblivion in 1680x1050

>Geforce 8800GT
Not sure where it is now. Probably loaned it to someone and it's gone for ever.

>Geforce GTS250
Sold it since the 8800GT was better anyway

>Geforce GTX650
Sold it since it was another 8800GT rebrand

>Radeon HD 6950
Running in my friends computer

>Radeon R9 285
Not sure why I even bothered buying it

>Radeon R9 Fury
Current GPU and will probably be my last big one as I don't think I have played games in the last 5 years all that much.

As opposed to ironically using a GPU?

TNT2
Ti 4200
FX 5200
8600GT
GT 240
GTS 450
HD 7850
HD 7950
GTX 970

I still play that game, my current rig is an 8700, 16gb ram and a 1070. I built it especially for company of heroes

Galax 1070

I bought an EVGA 970, used it for about a week, then took it back and got a XFX R9 390 and never looked back.
