GIF and nothing more

It stands for graphics interchange format, not giraffe-X interchange format.

Here's one

It's an old English word, pronounced "hyiff"

yiff

english pronunciation is truly garbage tier

soft g "gif"

gee eye ef
You say the letters

From PNG documentation regarding GIF:
>Pronunciation
>No detail was too small for consideration in the authors' quest for a near-perfect image format; yea, verily, even the acronym and pronunciation were major topics of discussion. The reason, of course, is the GIF format; some pronounce it with a soft G like giraffe, some with a hard G like gift, and no one really knows what they're talking about. (For the record, the soft G is correct; it is how the author of the format pronounces it.)

Now shut the fuck up if you disagree with me.

also:
>The pronunciation of "GIF" is specified in the GIF specification to be "jif", as in "jiffy", rather then "gif", which most people seem to prefer. This does seem strange because the "G" is from the word "Graphics" and not
"Jraphics".

"that one old retarded wannabe bitmap format that nobody should use in YOTL 2018"

this owo

based

The letter is pronounced the same way the word is said.
Graphical, so Gif. Not Jif, even though the creater is a tard.

you just say "if"
g is now obsolete

Hyiff in hell, furfag.

>The letter is pronounced the same way the word is said.
So you pronounce jpeg as jayfeg?

guyf

so you read garbage as jarbaje?
you can read gif as gif or jif without knowing its origin

You might, but I sure as fuck don't. I say gif, as in 'gift' without the t. Why? Because that's what the fucking creator of the format says it is.

Wait. Fuck. The retard went back on that, apparently, and now says it's 'jif'. No wonder everyone calls him a fucking moron.

>The retard went back on that, apparently
He has literally never referred to it with a hard g. Your confused little mind just invented that

its yiff
even wiktionary has the etymology of yiff as gif
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/yiff

giffu or jiffu

the g in .gif is silent

Considering the MAJORITY of G words are pronounced like a J, why do some people assume "gif" is any different?

Some examples:

gym, gender, gymnastics, george, generation, gem, gin, genes, giant, gypsy, ginger, gentle, genre, generate, general, gerbil...

Seems the problem here is illiterate retarded yankeestan mutts, as usual.

>considering the MAJORITY of CH words are pronounced tʃ
>some examples
>chemistry

If you make the argument that "graphics" has a hard G, you have to call JPG files jay-pheg.

Good thing literally everyone does.

gajiff

No one says that you Jay feg

>people still get mad over the pronunciation of GIF
>nobody discusses how GIF is pretty much obsolete with the wide support of videos and APNG
(well, except this user I guess; he seems like a pretty ok guy)

What a jood observation OP,
Let me jift you a jift

Name ONE acronym that isn't pronounced starting with the first sound of its first word.

gif

This is just a prime example of why the english language is shit

yup. hot mess.

Just want to chime in and say that the Jayfeg argument is stupid because the f sound comes from the digraph of p and h, without h it doesn't make the same sound so obviously you don't say it as f - if jpeg was instead called jpheg, then yes you would pronounce it gayfag.

Jif you dumb fuck
