new firefox versions use more ram than chromium with just a few tabs opened (~6-9 tabs) and uses less with more tabs just cause, instead of site isolation to prevent spectre and meltdown vulnerabilities, they just have decreased the timers precision, they plan to add proper site isolation in the future that will increase memory usage further.
