When I first saw windows 8/8.1/10 metro I couldn't help but think of Windows 3.1 like we were going fucking backwards.

Windows 7 is still the superior operating system.

windows 3.1 has shadows, windows 8, 8.1 and 10 deleted all shadows, all 3D effects, everything that made windows 7 so perfect to look at.

Is this supposed to be impressive? Once you've seen any moderately riced setup - and even base installs often are nowadays - windows looks like trash. OSX, especially the new material designs, still look good, though.

Yeah I still use windows 7, I actually like the 3dness of things like Aero. Windows 3.1 was my first windows so it will always be special in that nostalgia sense, wasn't hating on it or anything clearly metro is fucking worse.

I'm on the insider preview desu, it's the unstable build of windows home. I don't think this will find its way onto the stable release until next year sometime.

Funny thing, I got the october update and it broke the settings page and all system utls. Couldn't even load up the restore point program to rollback so I decided to go insider preview and it works. Windows is so shit. I keep a mint/debian partition for this reason

No, 7 isn’t the better choice. People on here say that because they’re afraid of technology (funny enough). If you really wanted privacy, you’d choose Linux instead, as 7 as telemetry too. People only stick with 7 because they’re afraid of change, which is kinda weird given they’re posting on a tech enthusiast’s board. Also, the LTSC version of 10 is okay but requires piracy (read: activator apps that are actually botnets).

It isn't. In fact, it looks far better than Windows 8 or Windows 7's defaults, or indeed, many Linux themes.
The only thing 10's UI lacks is a classic theme.

It comes with a widget theme, but not a proper taskbar theme or window decorator. The only options that exist, like Reactionary, look like cock ass.

It's not by default. Theses legacy styles, along with the gtk2 one, are in qt5-styleplugins because they have no maintainer for them. Expect bugs out the ass with no fixing in sight.
