i3 users >copied a "dotfile" from unixporn >runs i3 in a DE because he can't setup her own enviornment >more likely to be attracted to crossdressing males >goes out of his way to get "muh gaps" >tiling model is riged and doesn't make sense, has to waste time resizing and moving windows, defeating the point of using tiles in the first place >has a hacked together setup with a bloated bar that eats up 10% of her RAM >doesn't remember the good old days of #! linux and conky, mainly because he just started using arg lenox on le x220 in 2016. Meanwhile, glorious dwm users: >can parse a complication C header and configure it to their liking >simple, yet effective configuration >seamless switching between tiling and floating, windows are dynamic and not ridged, therefore can be adjusted to any use case >maintains his own version of the program with well written patches, no 2 dwm installations are alike >started using linux with slackware back in 2004 >Is actually getting sick of linux and preparing to move over to OpenBSD so he can have a simple, auditable system >Has a loving wife of the same ethnicity, a cute kid on the way >remembers the old days of conky and dzen, still keeps and uses his old conky configs to remember the good memories. >everything in his setup is a simple script, his bar is just plaintext running through sed. >his simple, elegant, setup is portable throughout all the unix-likes, he doesn't have to put up with a CoC or shitty devs.
Fix your life. Get rid of that garbage window "manager" and install dwm.
awww is editing a config.h file too hawed for Xir?
Sebastian Hill
no. why do you perceive it as hard though?
Hunter Torres
If it wasn’t dwm would be more popular here
Luke Miller
>he hasn’t seen the light of Uriel yet
Mason Allen
I use i3 and the only thing right on that list is that I use an x220 and am attracted to crossdressing males
Aaron Mitchell
Meanwhile, glorious users of the other DWM: >don't have to bother with C headers or compiling anything >simple yet generally effective configuration >all windows are floating but can be snapped to edges or corners to act tiled >doesn't need to maintain a separate special-snowflake version of the program >often hasn't used Linux, ever >is actually fine with his OS except when it doesn't do what he wants, but then he resolves the problem and moves on >uses an OS that doesn't have a CoC
Alexander Rodriguez
Pape?
Nathan Price
I'll continue using bspwm with Superior scripting capabilities, thank you.
Julian Rivera
Yeah the wm that can’t even handle its own key binds is better for scripting
Logan Martin
The only reason I use Linux is because I find it fun to fix problems. If I had less time on my hands I probably wouldn't deal with it.
Nicholas Cook
Linux is a kernel.
Wyatt Russell
I run dwm and i3 at the same time in different workspaces on macOS Come at me
Just came here to say that since #! Is gone, I don't understand why people just don't build there own "#!"from net install Debian. There's like five fucking distros that try to copy it. I've been using the same setup since 2011.
Ethan Parker
Openbox+tint2+conky?
Lincoln Morales
You forgot for dwm users: >probably severly autistic and does not leave his moma basement
Austin Wright
it's not yours if you didn't write it yourself why are you adapting to another mans (tranny in the case of i3) configuration instead of writing your own and forcing your will on the program? actually I've only seen successful suckless people. Meanwhile your average unixporn le x220 autist looks like this
Why are you using programs that you haven't written yourself? Also get off the Internet, I'm sure there are routers that you haven't written firmware for.
only my first config was copied, dude. it was for didactic purposes, and it was tinkered to the max. but yeah, doing thing yourself keep things "clean" as in "no bullshit you didn't touch because of fear of breaking". dwm is boring because package managers are too convenient for me to start compiling everything, I like to restart configurations on a whin to test new color schemes. plus it's defaults look more busier than a i3 bar. but now, using gentoo and throwing your config.h on your portage folder looks very interesting, you can rebuild your shit everytime without worrying about your default settings. might try it later.
Cameron Myers
good on you inshallah you'll end up heterosexual again by the time you have dwm up and running
terminal multiplexer is the ultimate brainlet filter
William Garcia
What is it with making the suckless success relationship. It's the third time I see you doing this. Are you coping with something?
Gavin Murphy
>didn't write the software he's running >didn't write the OS he's using >didn't design the hardware it's running on >didn't design the router he's connected to, or its OS >didn't build the network he's connected to lmaoing at your life
Carson Sullivan
i recognize that scene from girls' last tour
Nicholas Perez
doesn't even apply mod+1 webbrowser mod+2 social mod+3 one terminal with tmux running (and sometimes cloning webbrowser tag to this window for referential reasons (thank dwm the goat)) mod+4 filemanager tell me a better setup, and it better not be alt+tab or clicking icons to switch programs or god forbid, gestures
Jayden Parker
Give me a reason to just use a window manager rather than kde. You cannot state bloat: I have a quad core and 16GB of ram and plenty of disk space to hold them packages. I also know how to turn off compositing when I need to run intense graphical applications. My workflow depends on having multiple virtual desktops to organize the large number of windows I have open at all times. And I prefer to smash my terminals, file managers, and text editors windows into the corners. I also keep an unhidden task bar at the top for menus and buttons on full screen windows as well as my system tray a la mac os/unity/gnome 3

Wallpaper my dude?
Alexander Nelson
>"I'm gonna try dwm" >Start going through the available patches >Start applying patches to dwm >Realize I'm just making i3 but with the config file built in >Stop attempting to use dwm and just use i3 95% of the time I'm using i3's tabbed mode, and the other 5% of the time I have one window broken out to the side of a bunch of other tabbed-mode windows. If it ain't broke don't fix it. >doesn't remember the good old days of #! linux and conky Crunchbang was fucking shit because openbox is fucking shit because XML config files make me want to blow my brains out. For someone with such a hard on for .h configuration files, you sure are a fucking retard.
I find that hard to believe, seeing as most of the posters here like to circle jerk about how arbitrarily complex it is to actually setup and use their shitty configurations.
The more annoying and non-functional the more epeen points you get.
[everything else] users >actually does something productive
Thomas Roberts
>he copied the patch files >he copied the glyphs and fonts >he copied the color scheme >he copied the compiler used to build dwm >he copied the OS and all the libraries that dwm is relying on >he didn't even fab his own chips to run """his""" dwm on not going to make it
OP here, I'm in the process of debloating >KDE + i3 -> windowmaker + dwm >fish -> bash >urxvt -> st >i3lock -> slock >nitrogen -> feh + ranger + a script
Lucas Wood
gui is bloat only use cli tools (no, tui is not cli)
Blake Baker
>suckless shill baito desu
i'm not some complete NEET that has all the time in the world compile an entire operating system, i need a balance of practicality and minimalism and that is i3
Mason Rivera
>uses potteringware >anime girl background >'riced' setup >conky >using an applet for network management cringe and bloatpilled
fuck you faggot. last month you were going on about how great kde and debian is and how everybody else sucks ass. you try to think whatever you're using at the moment is the absolute best and talk shit about everything else because your life sucks and you want to have made the best decisions. eat dicks
Michael Stewart
movimg the focus with the keyboard while having lots of windows open, all visible at the same time is really practical, especially if they are text editors, much more than stacking window memegers
Christopher Jackson
Yep. You can extend it with literally any language.
Cooper Ramirez
seriously who the fuck cares about environments just pick one and do your work jesus christ
John Harris
when you don't do anything worthwhile with technology your choice of it becomes your identity instead
Parker Lopez
>dwm users are so worthless that they have to create threads shilling their shit from basements and telling me "to fix my life" while using arch with conky and anime pedo wallpaper
James Brooks
Arch users are mentally handicapped.
Linux distros don't have any more problems than other OS, the main difference is that it's very verbose and doesn't hide when it fails, and that due to limited market share, people end up building things themselves because devs dont bother. Stop acting like broken X or whatnot due to Arch being a shitshow is the norm
