It works absolutely fine with 1080p or even some 4k stuff but for whatever fucking reason anything that is 4k UHD whatever the fuck it stutters badly. So badly I gave up and just installed cccp.

what is the general consensus on SMPlayer?

I'd imagine that mplayer can properly navigate between files in the same directory, so that automatically makes it better than mpv.

I used to use KCP but it's no longer supported. I switched to MPV about a year ago and never looked back.

Install the codecs you need manually, these codec packs are frequently outdated and can fuck your registry. Get media info to check what codec you need.

mplayer doesn't have the high quality settings and is bloated
