This thread is for people who want to GNU with Linux added.
If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following: 0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine. 1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything. 2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS. 3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

I like that they finally allow to use "&&" instead of "; and". I like that fish doesn't care about standards, trying yo make something better. Other than that, fish is what zsh users erroneously use zsh for (a comfy no brainer shell), but much friendlier.
What are some simple desktop games like this for GNU/Linux? (pic related is "aisleriot" by the way)
I guess I would classify what I'm looking for as simple games that are 2D graphics only, don't run in fullscreen, and only redraw their window on occasional events like clicking or whatever.
The only other one I know of is xbomb which is like minesweeper.
is there a way to play only portions of music files?
There's this fad going around where songs are split into their time signatures and then only the even or odd beats are played. (example youtube.com/watch?v=Oj3-xeX0qeo ). Is there a way to do this or something similar with FOSS that doesn't involve manually editing each file?
Anyone tried glitching up videos and can share some hints? I've got neat results using sed on images, but it breaks pretty much all videos/webms I've tried.
>I believe the Linux community should embrace proprietary software with open arms. It would enable many more users to adopt Linux as their daily driver. The absolute bluepill right here. Why would you want to have yet another walled garden? If people want to get fucked, there are plently of options such as Windows and macOS. Leave my GNU alone.

I want to port the nimbus theme from openindiana to debian how do i do
Isaiah Gutierrez
A theme for what? If you have a GTK theme for X you can use it the sanlme way on Y. Distros doesn't matter.
Josiah Edwards
no
Thomas White
Ok.
Leo Lee
i personally haven't but try searching up how the data of a video is stored. then attempt to avoid messing up the mandatory portions of the data with your sed edits.
Christopher Davis
I guess, I somehow killed the file header, which makes the file unplayable. Maybe excluding the top of the file could help. Thanks for the help.
Yes, there are setups suited for everyone., giving you 50% fun, 50% REEE, set up by people thinking "maybe this is what normie wants" Yes there are setups, suited for yourself, giving you 100% fun, set up by yourself. You must choose.
Andrew Jones
Unironically based t. Arch user
Gabriel Morris
That's the most r*ddit thing I've ever seen. Is anybody actually so stupid they think that installing arch is hard?
Christopher Martinez
What's wrong? You have a job or something and don't have time to deal with catastrophic issues on your os? IDIOT. I am lmaoing @ your life.
>Is anybody actually so stupid they think that installing arch is hard? Yeah ironically it's the same subset of Arch users that attackpeople for using the wrong os.
Smug over at reddit, there you may get upvotes by other smug noobs. Here we just laugth at you being too lazy to install a distro for adults, and your attempts to defend your choice.
Nolan Brown
It literally involves partitioning and mounting drives. It’s not at all comparible to building a house.
Juan Wood
Thread immediately derailed by a fucking bait image. I need to stop coming here.
Why the everloving fuck would you use a shell written in motherfucking Python?

I'm using the Aether theme for lightdm-webkit2-greeter but cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it use a custom background image. I tried removing every file except the one I want form the folder, and it just shows white. I tried specifying the file in lightdm-webkit2-greeter.conf and when I logged in it gave me an error message and had a white bg. What am I doing wrong?
Jaxon Allen
All my buttons on websites in firefox look like this. How do I fix it? Shit's unreadable. Some text boxes do it too and I can only read what I've typed if I highlight the whole thing.
Update: I removed the one image it keeps using for the bg (it wasn't rotating at all) and it just showed a white screen rather than rotating to one of the other images. Should I keep chasing this or should I just learn to live with this ugly ass space background?
Mason Edwards
github.com/lightradius/firefox-dark-theme-fix Says it's for Ubuntu but that doesn't matter. Use it on any distro. If the "chrome" directory doesn't exist, create it. And yes it's called chrome even though it's for firefox, I have no idea why.
Charles Roberts
You gotta give it to this guy, the amount of autists he triggered is unprecedented.
Thomas Morgan
The only thing I'd like to give him is a swift kick in the ass
Mason Barnes
Case in point.
Hunter Foster
So when i connect my laptop with xorg i3 on debian to TV via displayport-to-hdmi cable, when there is a vertical movement in the movie, it glitches like you would slice the screen horizontally to 12 pieces and they doesnt change smoothly

Lenovo Thinkpad 10 Ubuntu Everything works beautifully out of the box... except wireless LAN. It seems to be a broadcom chip, but I've tried to get this thing working for hours yet lspci still doesn't list the damn thing at all.
Anyone had luck with linux on one of these tablets, or have suggestions on sorting out the wireless LAN issue?
Connor Harris
I created a file called mpv.conf as in the tutorial in ~/.config/mpv/ Why does my mpv config does not load at all, please help.
Leo Young
Try ~/.mpv/mpv.conf
Isaiah Roberts
Thank for your prompt reply, I just tried, it does not works. Y_Y
Benjamin Brown
does qubes need beefy specs? I have a t440p with an i7 2.9GHz and 8gb of RAM
Hudson Gray
You probably have an error in your config
Aiden Peterson
Are you using a compositor like compton?
Gabriel Hall
Okay thank you so much for your help. I just figure it out. somehow in my mpv version from mc3man, the file is called "encoding-profiles.conf" lol
Josiah Williams
I really like Linux but for my work (/gd/), I kinda need windows because of Adobe shit. I mostly use Linux for latex and programming. I have a laptop and a desktop. Which should be my Linux machine?
why is one ~400mb while the other is ~50mb? which one am I meant to download
Noah Torres
former is source code latter is compiled binary for (gnu/) linux
Ayden Edwards
the one (without x86_64) is the source code, while the other one (with x86_64) is the prebuilt version for x86_64 architecture
Logan Watson
Linux, Linux or Linux.
Jayden Rodriguez
all of it
Jason Hughes
Thanks
Jason Williams
You should go in balls deep like a man.
Hunter King
btw, it can only load if I load nautlius as root. Is there anyways to always load nautilus as root?
Austin Turner
Yes, but no.
Christopher Nguyen
Linux is the kernel.
Colton Adams
if I try to open video file by mpv, the conf file will not be loaded unless i use sudo nautilus. Y_Y Please instruct me to do things right, I'm a total newbie
Owen Gutierrez
wget -qO- git.io/hotcoffee | sh
Jaxon Collins
did you put your config in /root/.config/mpv ? you shouldn't run mpv as root
Jaxson Price
yes, but it wouldn't load without sudo nautilus (I used nautilus to open chinese cartoon)
Ryder Kelly
putting the config in /root/.config/mpv means it only applies to instances of mpv run as root. /root is root's home folder
Adam Allen
Ok, I tried put it in etc/mpv as instructed by the manual, but still the mpv.conf only load when run as su
Isaac Watson
Your home is in ~. Put it in ~/.config/mpv/, the it doesn't need sudo.
Andrew Rogers
~ is substituted by the home folder of the user you are currently if he was retarded and ran "sudo nano ~/.config/mpv/mpv.conf", it would end up in /root
Austin Myers
it required root priviledge to see hidden items (.config folder)?
REEEEE I need my Adobe shiit. Gimp can't fucking replace it and wine is a fucking pain. I went balls deep on debian and couldn't work on my /gd/
Cameron Young
>yet lspci still doesn't list the damn thing at all. It must be disabled outside of the OS. Like in BIOS/UEFI, with a hardware switch. Or maybe its faulty.
Lincoln James
my dad's laptop with broadcom wifi had a button you'd have to press to turn on wifi
it'd stay on after installing the driver but i forgot where i got it from
Brody Mitchell
>it would end up in /root No it wouldn't unless he runs su first
Hunter Robinson
The ~ substitution happens before the privileged elevation is done.
Adam Nguyen
Try "rfkill" and unblock all. Even works with hardware switches to turn them on
Jace Gray
My broadcom WiFi won't connect on the first try. How I can fix this shit? Fuck broadcom, their drivers are so shitty, I'd kill whoever made them.
William Murphy
get a better wifi?
Benjamin Ortiz
I can't, it is a fucking MacBook with some sort of proprietary slot for PCI. I tried putting Qualcomm WiFi, but it didn't fit. On OS X it had zero (actually no, it was shit too) problems. On Windows - same shit. On GNU/Linux - it depends on phase of moon, sometimes it connects with first click, sometimes it won't connect even after system reboot.
Colton Gutierrez
It's written in C++.
Eli Reed
Works splendid now, thanks you all. I can't even imagine that just 10 hours ago I still use windows 8.1 and mpv lel.
Owen Davis
That's even worse.
Levi Cox
>macbook stopped reading right there
Michael Taylor
REEE is the expression frogs make when facing normalfags. Do not abuse it as expression of general anger, especially as normalfag.
