CPU >Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming >R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional) >R5 2400G/i5-8400 - Consider IF on sale >R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >i7-9700k/8700k/8700- If you have a $2000+ budget >R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
RAM >8GB - Enough for most gaming use >16GB - Standard for heavy use >32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal
Graphics cards >RTX 2000 cards are worse performance per $ than previous gen >Avoid cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans 1080p >RX 570/580/590 w/ Freesync or 1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options >1050 3Gb or RX560 4Gb - lower settings and/or older games >GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 - for higher FPS w/ a high hz monitor 1440p >Vega; 1070Ti/1080 if you already have Gsync >Waste money - for higher FPS w/ a high hz monitor 4K >Upscale from 1620-1800p. >1050ti is 150€ >rx 570 8gb is 160€ Fuck the eu If I wouldn't own a shitty dell workstation I'd go for amd but I need a gpu that only draws power from the pcie slot. Is there any option that I didn't consider that would make it possible for me to go for the 570? The psu is 425 watts, a sandy bridge 6 core xeon that already draws a lot of power, everything is proprietary design, hard and costly to replace...
Why do this instead of just getting a CPU with more cores?
Jeremiah Parker
reposting from dying thread im building someone an HTPC and im trying to build it around a "Pioneer - BDR-211UBK Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer" but the HDCP standards make picking parts confusing. with the wrong parts and an Ultra HD bluray will only play in 1080p without HDR and poor audio.
im thinking of going with an intel i3-8100 since its igpu has the hdcp build in and an z370 asrock motherboard that seems to have matching hdcp standards.
Does anyone have a similar build so i can see what a working system looks like? im not sure if im missing something, if i need a dGPU
Connor Lopez
In addition I don't know if the psu can handle a 570 at all..
Oliver Cox
>Why do this instead of just getting a CPU with more cores? Where can I find a CPU with 44 cores?
This is for a high airflow, good thermals build for 1080p gaming for years to come. Managed to keep the build under $800 (That is the price after taxes) with free copies of DMC5 and RE2 to boot and pretty much the only thing left on my list until the parts get here on the 3rd is either get a legit W10 license for $99 or try my luck with some kinguin OEM keys for $20
The amd game deal looks pretty good right now. The thing I wanted to ask is how future proof is rx 580 (I suspect that 590 isn't really worth it atm). Right now I'm at 1080@60 but I want to move on to 1440 in the future, probably come spring/summer. Can 580 hold me for a year or two until I move to a new system entirely? I don't plan to play anything cutting edge. The only games I'm looking forward to are the ones already in the deal (dmcv and re2make). Should I look into a vega 56?
looks good. if you get a key from a kinguin or scdkey use paypal.
Angel Evans
I don't even care about the LED or windows, just that the case has the highest airflow and lowest thermals out of the box compared to anything below $210 dollars. Its the 5 fans it comes with stock and mesh on all sides that I am investing my money in there.
Gabriel Nguyen
God I hate the EU so much there have been 0 good deals meanwhile in the US online and store deals keep getting better and better
t. mad dutch retard wanting to build a 1080p gaming rig
590 is a little step up from 580, so it depends on what prices you find. for 1080p mid high it's good for a while yet. vega56 is a power hungry little cunt, check your psu before jumping in. 1070 and 1080 are starting to flood the market too, keep an eye out for them
Kayden Diaz
2070 is more expensive while delivering the same performance as the 1080ti, and you're giving money for fucking wangblows 10, don't.
Liam Rogers
Is there any reason to do that if you only need 20 cores?
Kevin Gray
Can anyone recommend a good keyboard? It's hard to sort through what's a meme and what's not. ~50 USD I guess

Jaxson Murphy
Only 425 watts and no extra connectors it's super weird. It has an amd firepro 2gb in it but that only draws power through the pcie slot.
Just buy chink adapter cable like 2xmolex into 1x6pin. 425w is not bad at all. Had two mid range radeons in crossfire and 140w phenom on 430w seasonic.
Adrian Hernandez
As per usual: all the good deals were one or two weeks ago. Like that Sapphire Nitro+ for 200€, those two/three games bundles with 570/580s for 200€ and under, that 570 4GB for 160/170€ with games...
Christopher Hill
what's a good joystick that is: -relatively cheap ( under 30$) -smaller than the xbox controller ( it hurts my average sized hands, unironically) -it's not compatability hell with pc games -i am very ok with wired
>my average sized hands >average ...user, I have bad news for you.
Steam (at the very least in Big Picture mode) recognizes any Xinput device, the PS4 (not PS3) controller and the Switch Pro controller at the very least. Start there. You'll probably have to increase your budget a bit or hope for sales if you want a DualShock 4 though.
Grayson Russell
i am getting a 1060 6 GB.
are cheap 144hz 1080p monitors a good buy with it?i know i will be able to hit 144 only with few titles such as dota2 and i am ok with it. but what will happen when i'll play titles that my 1060 will only reach 50-80 fps? will the screen tear and ruin image quality if i don't go at exactly 144/2? do i need goysync?
Site says it only needs 459W but I doubt that's counting overclocking the 8700k & 1080Ti. Might get a 2080 and 9700k instead though, depends on what prices we'll see on Friday.
can i get away with freesync or since i got an nvidia do i need exclusively their pricy bullshit?
Andrew Robinson
Is a GTX 960 good enough to drive a 1440p monitor for windows and video use? I know that I won’t be able to play games but will anything in windows be fucked too?
Jaxson Evans
Question for the AMD affiliates, looking to update my platform to an AM4 system. Local store still has stock of Crosshair 6 Hero motherboards for a reasonable price. For local Australian pricing comparison's sake; -Crosshair VI Hero X370; $269 -Prime X470-Pro; $289 -Crosshair VII Hero X470; $439 Looking to pair it with a 2600X or 2700X, doesn the X370 chipset still give me access to 2nd gen Ryzen's XFR2/PB2/PBO? Are these technologies CPU bound or chipset bound? From what I can see I'm only missing out on StoreMi, which as interesting a technology as it is, I don't think I have any use for it.
At least 650W. And I'd keep the 8700K since you can delid it for better cooling.
>800 shekels for a 1080Ti What on flying Earth Amerika.
>since i got an nvidia do i need exclusively their pricy bullshit? Yup. If you can send back that 1060 and get a 580, then yeah FreeSync will be cheaper.
t. 1060 owner and happy with 60FPS
Aiden Allen
I am planning on buying this. Since my old pc of nine years died last week (RIP). I'm getting 16gb RAM a cheaper case 500gb SDD from samsung and a fan instead of liquid cooling. cyberpowerpc.com/system/Black-Friday-Special-II I think I'm doing good
Levi Murphy
Well Freesync won't do anything, so it's either goysync, or not goysync.
Not sure if you're shilling... >2700 and X470 for a 590 It's not terrible, but unless one would absolutely needs the higher CPU performance, a 660FPS build could use a 2600X with a B450 board and use the money into a SSD. Essentially : you could build the same shit yourself, so unless building is included in price I don't see the point.
Ian Morris
>2600X I wanted to write 2600 or 2600X.
Nicholas Reyes
Depends of the level of performance you want. See OP and actually read it.
Parker Flores
I've never done it before and it's a relatively big investment for me. Messing it up would be a sad day. Last tine i tried any of that was like 15 years ago no good. Building is included in price. I am not shill. I also thought about this one m.newegg.com/products/N82E16883102502/reviews However it is a smaller case with what appears to be bad cooling and PSU.
Adam Thomas
>What on flying Earth Amerika
I live in Norway so it's even worse here, expect that build to go for a LOT more than indicated.
But you think 650w would do the trick?
Hudson Gomez
How good is the stock 2700X cooler compared to the rest?
Noah Young
Building is easy you just plug shit in. The hardest part is always choosing the parts.
Jayden Carter
Tried looking for a 1080ti cheaper than a 2070 but could not find one here in AUS.
Joshua Rodriguez
it's fairly loud and fairly hot but it gets the job done if you're not planning on getting a lot of automatic OCing out of it and don't want to purchase an aftermarket one
Jonathan Jones
I have a ryzen 2200g and a rx 470 and I'm using an old 1440x900 monitor to play and i'm considering buying a 1080p freesync one. are my specs enough to play at at least 60fps?
Jonathan Jenkins
>2070 is more expensive while delivering the same performance as the 1080ti I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you were meant to compare the 2080 and 1080ti.
Connor Foster
Remember, it's "Gaslighting" and "concern trolling" when you disagree or even question the AMD shill.Because you are "seeding doubt"
It's "an honest mistake, I just mis- remembered" when he does it.
>I've never done it before and it's a relatively big investment for me It is for everyone, regardless of their budget. Part of being a PC enthusiast is being able to diagnose your PC and see which part does what. If you have an issue or just want to change some stuff in the future, you'll be glad to know what goes where. And unless you're clinically retarded, it's very difficult to fuck up since almost everything is standardized.
>But you think 650w would do the trick? Could be. You never want to run your PSU near its limits. But I don't know what the 8700K pulls when OC'd to 5GHz and delidded. Recently I've seen decent deals for 750W PSUs and I've picked one up for absolutely no fucking good reason besides me being an idiot: it's an EVGA GQ750.
Parker Jenkins
not bad, I'm still fucked though because I need 32
Grayson Foster
>does nvidia no it doesn't, some third party tool does :^)
Hunter Cox
>Does Nvidia EVEN LET you Notice the key word, there. >even >let It's not "does nvidia provide the option in their control panel" It's not "nvidia control panel lacks the option so you have to use other tools" It's "Does nvidia even give you permission to modify such parameters? :O"
Hudson Perez
I wonder about this too. Steam seems weird, is that the only good option?
Henry Cox
lads, just built an AMD gaymen pc with 2700x and vega 64. the vega runs hot as fuck and ive been considering watercooling both my cpu and gpu. thoughts/recomendations?
Ryan James
it's 2070 user. check benchs
Blake Baker
I never did it before either but I bought all the parts and watched like 200 build videos and did it myself. It took me like 6 hours (between breaks, finding an usb memory, downloading win10 and having a crisis when i didn't know how to put the cables on the psu) but now it's perfect.
Jack Nelson
why...the fuck did you get vega?
Brody Stewart
it runs pretty well so far, witcher 3 max setttings in 2k at ~70 fps. and with the vega prices dropping recently i didnt see many downsides
Asher Garcia
What about them consuming far more wattage than other cards and in that line running hot?
Ethan Williams
>vega64 look into undervolt and overclock. other than that, idk mang, if it's used then maybe change thermal paste and clean the dust, general maintenance shit
Ethan Long
i have an 850w psu, and the cost of electricity at that amount is negligable. the running hot is the problem i am hoping to solve with water cooling.
Blake Hughes
sounds like you should get a 9900K and overclock it.
My main concern is that I'm using the power supply from my current build, should I upgrade that too?
Jason Phillips
what's the cheapest secondhand 4-core cpu? i5 2500k?
Aaron Brown
$280 for a 1070ti worth it? Or should I try finding a Vega 64 for around $320ish or less?
Hudson Powell
>$280 for a 1070ti worth it? That's criminal, get it
Lucas Sullivan
>with the prices here I could get a 2070 or 1080 cheaper than vega 64 >mean while hear all this talk about how vega is cheap form americans ehhhh must be nice living in a place where prices make even a little bit of sense
Adrian Wood
Power draw isn't about costing you more money in electricity. It's mostly about noise and thermals, as a card that pulls more electricity will be noisier and run hotter unless properly cooled (which is why Vega cards tend to have XXL thiccc cooling solutions). I'm sad you're discovering it the hard way. Either way and as mentioned by another user, look into undervolting it.
William Brooks
That has to be second hand, right?
The 9600K is, while a decent CPU, a pointless unit: doesn't push FPS hard like the 8700K and isn't competitively priced vs. the Ryzen alternatives. I'd pick up a 8700K in your use case. And for God's fucking sake, don't pick up a TN panel user.
Benjamin Gomez
Is it dumb to get a 144hz monitor if I currently have a 280x and a i5 4670k? I'm planning to upgrade the GPU to Navi next year? I'm looking at the msi Optix MAG241C, VA panel, 1080p 144hz, 1ms gtg, freesync and backlight strobing for blur reduction, I can get one for 200 eurobucks which seems like a good deal. I have a cheap 1080p 60hz tn panel now for reference.
Yes. Only a year of gaming use supposedly. Not used for mining. Owner/seller wants to upgrade to the RTX 2080
Austin Bailey
>No warranty I'd never buy a GPU without a warranty. If it's an EVGA I heard the warranty could be transferable, but don't quote me on that one.
Dylan Reed
Currently building a PC for a buddy and he's on a very, very tight budet. GPU is a nobrainer for me because nothing can touch RX 570 value right now, especially with that Capcom game bundle. In terms of CPU I'm not so sure. R5 1400 is a fair bit cheaper (50€) than a R5 2600 and still has 4c/8t which should be more than enough if paired with an RX 570, especially if you squeeze in some extra clock speed. It's the cheapest 4c/8t you can buy right now where I live. R5 2400G isn't an option because at that price you might as well get a 2600 instead. Those 50 bucks will most likely go towards an SSD which in my mind will make a bigger impact the overall experience than two extra CPU cores.
Caleb Long
I found a new Zotac 1070ti that is still sealed for $330. Using the eBay discount code it also comes out to $280ish But aren't the Zotac cards known for being shit?
Ian Cox
>just want a b450 with premium parts don't need a second pcie 3x slot that the 470 has.
I heard motherboard manufactures are really skimping on both AMD and Intel boards.
Elijah Perry
Can I use a 4k moniter with a RX 580? I am not going to be gaming, just streaming video and some casual photo editing.
Connor Young
>b450 with premium parts with no second PCIe slot There's some X470 in ITW format. There's no mATX X470.
Blake Watson
This thing is in sale for 250€. It's a 2tb MX500 SSD which is slightly worse in performance than the much more expensive 860 Evo. 250€ for an SSD is a bit excessive but it the seems like the ultimate SATA storage device for vidya. Is this thing worth it for 250 Eurobucks or should I wait until Christmas?
Pretty set on this. Still taking recommendations. Cheaper case?
Colton Price
What is a good cooler for OCing a 2700X?
Lucas Green
It's 2TB user. One TB usually runs at around 150€. Ironically enough, on lower capacities you could have seen some around 70€ for a Crucial MX500 (3D NAND). By picking up higher capacities you don't make any savings, it's awful.
Henry Lewis
The 2700x stock cooler is actually really good.
Mason Johnson
Can I avoid screen tearing with GTX 1070 on a 1440p 144hz (Freesync) monitor? I could use Fast sync but it caps the framerate to 2x your refresh rate so I'd be stuck with horrible stutters due to framerate inconsistencies. Is there a way to enjoy 144hz 1440p gaming without screen tearing on a non G-sync monitor? G-sync and Freesync are incompatible but I won't swap my 1070 for a vega 56/64 because I'd be selling the 1070 at a net loss just to get another GPU with significantly hotter temperatures and slightly worse power consumption. My PC case is too small to house a space heater.
