Be software engineer

>be software engineer
>feeling a bit under the weather today, so I call my supervisor to ask if I could work from home
>he replies sarcastically, "yeah sure, user!"
>continues, "in fact, why do we even need a fucking office if we could just work from home? I'm going to ask Jim (owner of the company) if we should end the lease and tell everyone to start clearing their fucking desks."
>I apologize
>show up to work late because I honestly expected him to say yes
>HR tells me I need to see them
>have to be lectured about "work ethic" and responsibility
I fucking hate this place. Please tell me there are greener pastures. I can't take much more.

stand up for yourself then faggot, the second he gave you sass you should have told him you were too sick to come in.

>he replies sarcastically, "yeah sure, user!"
>continues, "in fact..."
>"Awesome, thanks, bye"

Feels like larp, how did a sperg end up being your superior.

Your entitled to sick days lol

Sounds like some typical corporate bullshit user. Find a job where they aren't unreasonable dickheads.

I want to use my remaining days for christmas shopping.

If you work in any sort of corporation and recorded that then it's an easy way to get your manager in hot water. Employees don't know how fucking spooked HR gets over the dumbest complaints. You're getting a target put on your head no matter what, might as well burn a jackass while you're at it.

>not having unlimited vacation

>under the weather

excuses

Middle management, here. Two things. First, get it of there now. You’re probably the office pushover. HR would never do that (even if your supervisor asked them to) unless they see you as a liability. If you’re a pushover, then people probably take advantage of you sand that actually decreases productivity as a whole.

Second, if they are treating you like this, they might be fixing to fire you soon, for whatever reason.

Get out of there now*

>>I apologize
Should've replied with
>I think that's a very good idea

>*loads rifle*
>Yeah, that would be nice. That would be real nice. No, no, sit down. SIT. DOWN. Good. Very good. Now pick up that phone. PICK IT UP. Call Jim, tell him about your brilliant idea. Just like you to...PICK IT UP. Good. Just like you told me, you'll save the company a ton of money, right? Who knows, maybe you could ask him for a raise too. You could even...hey, HEY. SIT DOWN. Did you just try to throw a stapler at me? Oh no. That's bad. That's really bad. Now we have to call HR. That will leave a mark in your performance review. Jim won't be happy. Oh, no. Not. Happy. At all.

Good thread.
Also, change job.

Attached: papież daje okejke.jpg (227x225, 13K)

You’re clearly in a shit job, quit. Considering you’re a software engineer I guarantee you can find something better within weeks.

Somewhat unrelated, stand up for yourself, unless you actually wanted to get paid more than resting you should’ve just told them you weren’t working today.

>complain that management made you come to work

Was thinking exactly this.
>WAAAAHHH HE MADE ME DO MY JOB!!

>I apologize

Wrong.

Also plenty of companies allow working from home occasionally as it has been proven it doesn't decrease productivity and makes employees happy. Also your manager sounds like a faggot.

Are you retarded? Did you even read OP's post? His manager threw a toddleresque shitfit and cursed user out.

>invite boss to dinner
>we get drunk
>I pass out
>he gropes my wife and forces her to perform oral sex
>ten days later she is his sex slave
>lose my job and my wife
her name was julia

Attached: 1526353217916.jpg (593x593, 125K)

Fucking betas, I swear. The second he swore you should have just hung up and called HR yourself to report his unprofessional behavior. If anyone bats an eye you get an attorney and sue for harassment. You should never have gone in, either. Never capitulate under aggression or people will use aggression to manipulate you.

>thinks it's about manager telling him to come to work
>doesn't think it's about the manager throwing a tantrum
Hello, middle management. How goes being a juvenile asshole every day?

cubicle monkey detected

Wait a second...

Stop being a lazy fat fuck get off your ass and go to work. The world doesn't stop because you're "a little bit under the weather" you pussy.

Got a new job three months ago at a big tech company.

Right when I start, I get seated by the coffee machine. I ask the director if there are any other available seats, as it would get quite noisy. The director then replies "I don't know how to say this nicely, but you're a new hire" and leaves. Now, I'm a professional and I've dealt with people who have had bad days before. I know the standard procedure; smile and say that I understand - and don't take any offense.

The past month, I've been asked to come in on the weekends. There was a public poll put up on our teams channel for who was going to come in, in what seemed like a thinly veiled coercion method. I then immediately applied for another job. I now have an interview next Monday at a place that pays for your Masters degree.

Remember anons, right now we have the upper hand because of our position on the supply and demand divide. Take advantage of this rare position. Milk it as much as possible. It won't last forever.

>kill me for sitting in a fucking desk all day and trying to be a lazy faggot

Wagecuck

Lol. Nice larp or you're working illegally so they can abuse you. I can work from home once a week at the minimum. During the holiday season, I work from home all the time so I can basically get days off without using my vacation.

quit and get a remote job making more money. no intelligent management treats programmers like this, they're too valuable. I'm essentially coddled at my company

>I now have an interview next Monday at a place that pays for your Masters degree.
I find it a bit appalling this isn't the norm for you. Every company I've interviewed with/worked for offers continuing education.

What company actually wants to train their employees these days?

Looks like it's going good, good to hear.

Where do you live?

wtf, sw industry must suck.
us of a.

I'm in Canada. Not the norm here. I'm making 90 atm out of grad.

Attached: AF9B29E66C2846B3A0AD2DA78997BE77.jpg (1384x640, 45K)

>I'm in Canada. Not the norm here
I thought you guys paid taxes for that shit, so why would an employer pay for it?

The 4 hour work week by Ferris has a whole chapter dedicated to this. I'd try his method. Asking for special treatment out of the blue with no stipulations never works out in a corporate setting.

Its like 8gs a year my dude, I'm counting every penny

Attached: 1537856065759.png (569x569, 560K)

Still cheaper than where I live. It's twice that a year for undergrad, then so much more for a grad degree I'd never consider paying it myself.

>The world doesn't stop because you're "a little bit under the weather"
Exactly.

Which is why managers are a waste of resources. The world doesn’t stop when I don’t come in, so why make it such a fucking big deal?

you fucked up
you either call in sick or plead the fif

>be software engineer
>feeling a bit under the weather today
Women in tech™

Makes me feel a bit better at my job. People take vacation days or work from home whenever they feel like it. If its snowing out, 3/4ths of the office is gone. Even though I don't get paid the most (55k) its still so chill here.

Man, I gues you need to update your resume now and start going to interviews. Sometimes, it really sucks to be a wagie tho.

Telecommuting actually decreases productivty because of all the distractions at home. Why do millennials and zoomers think they’re entitled to free money?

>be an HVAC/R tech
>work for ICEE doing mostly service calls for Starbucks with their nitrogen refrigerators, RO/ water softeners and some rinsers etc
>can call in at any time within the same morning and say I'm not feeling good and can't come in
>get a text later "hey are you feeling better? no? alright see you tomorrow"

another case
>get food poisoning
>let boss know day before that I won't make it in the next day
>says ok
>do this four days in a row
>tell him i'm coming in after four days
>"cool thanks hope you feel better"
>didn't even ask for a doctors note

software anything cucks

Attached: C9DbYRkUQAA9XFw.jpg (558x558, 26K)

Office jobs sound nice, you guys have pussy problems and the most dangerous injuries you're subjected to are self-inflected from poor typing technique.

This, worked from home today and watched three episodes of mad men

>Strange influx of posts in 15 minutes
did someone link this to Jow Forums or something?

>decreases productivity
*decreases time in wage cage

You agreed to the employmers terms.

You guys are fags. He didn't ask for a day off he just asked to work from home. Most good companies provide simple conveniences like that because it helps them not lose productivity

>be software engineer
>feeling a bit under the weather
>post "not feeling great, wfh" on slack
>get supportive emoji reacts
>"hope you feel better, user!"

This. You should be able to WFH especially in 2018 at a tech job. There are most definitely greener pastures. But don't let WFH get to your head. It's good in moderation. Maybe a few times a month.

>be me working networking
>Arrived late, 2 accidents slowing traffic
>Drive time has gone from 10 minutes to 60 minutes due to branch closing
Boss: "Hey, we need to go to meeting room"
>HR there
Sit down and all, explain how my attendance has been bad lately.
Explain increasing drive time 600% will do that when various bad drivers are involved.
>HR "Why not leave earlier"
Explain last time I met with boss and HR was because I was working too early and leaving early to match times.
>HR "Well this needs to change or you may not be here much longer"
Me: "Then I make my 2 week notice, I got a job offer last week but I was not really considering it, thanks for the advice on my value here and my future with the company."
>Boss "Wait, they didnt.."
"Oh and since the company policy does not allow me to work during the 2 week because of security issues, I'll just head on home."
>Boss and HR were scrambling because we were already short 2 people from total 5 staff and I was cleaning out my desk handing in my swipe card, desk keys and waving by to everyone.

God damn, best day ever.

>forces her

Attached: 1539041102312.jpg (499x499, 19K)

This. Also having a proper home office is a requirement if you're planning on doing more remote work from home than a few days a month.

Also the manager forced someone who was feeling a bit sick to come to work risking the entire office getting sick. user should run away as fast as he can.

Only if you don't have a proper home office. If you have a dedicated home office with minimal distractions it can increase productivity as you won't have people pestering you all the time.

Do you not have sick leave?

>be software engineer
>work 6 hours a day usually
>work from home one day a week

>cont
Still was chatting with co-worker on steam every now and again.
Found out there was a restructure and CIO came on to be in charge of HR. The whole load of them did get canned and my handling was one of the reasons.
The problem with going against a IT person is we document EVERYTHING in email, tickets and internal recorded call logs "for quality assurance". He said they went over everything I had vs HR emails and they lied a shit ton to save their ass and got called on it.

Lol I work at Monsanto and home office is a-ok here

You should have taken the day off you dipshit

Tel him u quit and that hea a fucking psycho asshole fuckhead

>not calling him out on his passive aggressiveness
lmao what a cuck
you are probably going to stay at that job for 20 more years

literally this
you beat me to it
lmao

Graduate from highschool first and you'll see...

Based

Is working 6h per day common or viable to find? I usually do that and I thought I found a unicorn job

DId he cum inside tho

This desu

Wagie, wagie, get in cagie,
Boss needs help! Don't be lazy!
Zero breaks will make you crazy?
I'll tell the guards to get their tazie.
Need to get those new iPhones,
Gotta pay those student loans.
Work your fingers to the bone,
Bosses need vacation homes.
Don't trust unions, vote in pairs,
By all of boss's consumer wares.
We'll stay seated in our chairs,
And make our bosses millionaires.
Love your work! Love the pain!
Feel the life drain from your brain.
Think of all you have to gain,
As your dreams go down the drain.
Come on wagie, join the crew,
Don't you want your wages too?
And if the bossman makes you blue,
You deserve it. You're a tool.
Weekend comes round after ages,
You can come collect your wages.
Throw your parties! Have your rages!
Then get back into your cages.

Thanks.
I've left the entire field to work in the porn industry nowadays. Ten years in networking gave me a real tight butthole.

If he actually swore at you you could probably get him fired and sue the company for a couple hundred grand, as long as you recorded it.

>There was a public poll put up on our teams channel for who was going to come in

what the actual fuck

Attached: 1393475038584.jpg (252x221, 19K)

>interested in electrical shit and plumbing shit
>HVAC combines these things
>apply for HVAC jobs
>sorry we are looking for candidates with refrigerant licenses
>look up the requirement of said licensing courses
>must be employed in the HVAC or similar industry
kill me

>work as security
>don't want to work today
>b-b-but we need-
>I can't. *beep beep beep*

Ok user, we need to know a few things as well. Are you one of the better engineers? It's ok if you're not, I can tell you right now that I'm definitely not in my company and I take shit like this sometimes as well and don't stand up for myself because I'm a spineless coward.
You should have called your manager's bluff and when they tried to sass you out about it, you should follow it up with "Ok then, I'm too sick to come in so I'm taking sick leave." That's surely going to put them behind and it'll make your manager look bad.
Also, write up a half decent linkedin and put your status to casually looking and enable recruiters to find work for you. Everywhere's supposedly got a shortage of software engineers, so recruiters lap that shit right up. You don't need to quit your job right now, you're just opening yourself up to alternatives.
That's what I'm doing. I'm fucking sick of being paid less than the average and I've come a long way and deserve a bit more. Also the products I'm working on are hot trash and I feel 0 motivation to work on them. Worst part, I'm not alone the rest of my team feels shit working on stuff, we're tired all the time and we're all being paid shit. We're about to lose 3 very key people on the engineering side and I'd be panicking if I were management. Fuck them though.

>send message to the boss that I can't make it this week
>boss responds ok
>show up the next week and boss asks if I'm feeling better, work continues as normal

i recently had a huge argument with a co-worker about her giving me her shit to do while she plays on her phone. she stood there looking at me like i was in the wrong so i lost my shit and went through 30 variations of "get the fuck of my face" in a loud voice, with my manager sitting not 15 ft away.

the next day when i came in he greeted me with a smile, i can't tell what he's thinking because we all hate that woman.

underrated

kek

It's rare to see an actual adult on here. Good job user!

That sounded like a good idea tho

It's a rule where I work to stay home if you are legitimately sick. Because spreading it around is supposedly worse. In practice, you are literally 3rd degreed by the big boss, then the coworkers hate you for not shouldering the burden that day.

What doujin?

>software engineer
>works hard every day
>read into programming frameworks
>optimize peer's code
>teach peers about good coding
>rise up the hierarchy due to competence
>lives a happy meaningful life with friends and family
>notice i didnt use be me

>software engineer
programmer

Get over yourself.

look at this fucking faggot lmao

If this isn't a larp you should have just told him if he ever talks like that again you'll quit.

If you are in a situation where you need your life to be shit in order to afford your living expenses you need to fix your shit. Being a pussy pushover will only invite more abuse.

NEETs are in a mental cage of their own making. The door isn't locked, they can walk out of it any time, but they are weak and afraid. And so they stay in it.

I work IT for a plumbing company, they are asking to much from you.

Where I work if people come to work coughing anonymous signs get posted the next day saying to stay home when you're sick

If true, this gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Fucking pieces of shit HR and middle management who think they're giving "tough love" when really they're just obnoxious cunts who let power get to their heads.

What's working at Monsanto like? I'm at Syngenta and it's pretty nice.

Would you guys rather work for a company that Op works for or a company that is filled with sjws/liberals, but also lets you have unlimited sick days, great benefits, decent pay.

Attached: tumblr.jpg (640x849, 150K)

Big company or startup?

>work at a company with a culture of empathy for fellow human beings or don't
what a dilemma
