Linux is an infinite journey to enlightenment as well as much faster for computationally intensive workloads. It's safe from most backdoors and can br made comfy as fuck. Windows 10 is pajeetware with literally zero QA and chock full of backdoors, and it is already the only version of Windows getting driver updates.

yes

Lubuntu boots on my four year old laptop in less than a minute.
Windows 10, which it came pre-installed with, takes ten minutes.

You don't need yet.
For now just install windows 7, and when windows 7 stop being useful, you install linux, then run win10 on a virtual box.
This way, if your windows get pozed (and it will), you can just wipe out the virtual drive and to all again without losing your IMPORTANT data that is on the linux partition.

Few linux distros come with annoying shit in it because it's really easy to disable it or switch to a distro that doesn't have that thing. Microsoft seems to be seeing just how much annoying ass shit they can pack into their OS.

because linux doesnt waste memory on bloatware and spyware.

Dumb tux poster.

>Why should I use this over Windows?

Don't. You're clearly too stupid to use it.

It's your personal decision, OP. I have used Linux in the past, and I could use it now if I wanted to, but I don't. It wasn't bad, but it isn't that great either.

You don't.
Install it on a VM or make a Dual-boot and see if it fits you.

It's fun.

Remember back in the day when you didn't know shit about computers and some porn site would install toolbars and popups on your machine and you had to scramble to fix it before your parents find out?

You get to feel that all over again.

I don't care what you use. Use windows if you like it who actually fucking cares

If you're a control freak about your computer or a tinkerer, it's appealing. I feel it takes a certain personality, if you find Windows comfy then just stick to that.

No bluescreens.

Do you have an urge to be a religous zealot, but are too lazy to read any religion's holy scriptures? Good news, Linux is for you! You only need to learn a small amount before declaring yourself better than everyone and walking around like a pompous asshole!

No reason to use it, unless you're curious and enjoy using it. I use it on my laptop. My desktop uses Windows, but I keep a linux vm.

Don’t. Keep out no normans allowed

patently false

Linux is quick. It runs servers on the internet. It's highly configurable.
It has easy to use commands like: pwck, dd, renice, setfacl, nl, xargs, elvis, shopt, nohup so it's really intuitive!
And if you need help, don't type: "help" that'd be dumb
be smart like us and type: "apropos" or "man" if your the lazy type.

It's free as in freedom
It's free as in beer
It's fun
It's usable
It appeals to the tinkerer in you
It enhances your independence
It's a great medium for learning computer related skills
It won't fuck you over
It respects your privacy

Try it. If you like it, you'll use it. If you don't, you can fuck off to /v/.

If it has software you need for your work/activities and allows to launch it without problems then its for you. If its not stick to windows or whatever works

You shouldn't use it instead of windows, just give it a go n see if you like it.
Or maybe you use android in which case pwned

Don't unless you're using gcc or running a server. For desktop use, every time you update or make a change a bunch of other shit breaks that isn't hard to fix but you just dont have the time for it. It -might- make better use of your CPU and memory but consumer level chip makers hate linux so dont expect to get prime time driver support and optimization.
>f-fuck u nvidia ;_;

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

linux is nonfree software, user
it contains binary blobs

cus it don't v?

just curious does anyone still fall for the linux gamer meme?

How else can you begin your journey to the path of enlightenment if you are unwilling to start with something as simple as using Linux?

As much as I whole-heartedly agree with how great Lubuntu, you could not have possibly had Windows 10 preinstalled on a laptop from 4 years ago as four years ago would have been 2014, and Windows 10 did not exist for the consumer in 2014.

It's for White people.

Just bought a new computer. Slapped Ubuntu on that baby right away because I was sick of Microsoft's bullshit. The fingerprint scanner wasn't recognized, the audio drivers didn't work, the touchpad driver didn't support gestures, and the fan would always run louder than they did under Windows.

Don't switch to Linux.

I understand the confusion and "using it over windows" is technically true since Linux just runs on top of windows but its just a app, install it from the store.

If you have to be sold on it, you'll hate it mate. There I did you a solid.

>new CoC
What now?

>not using Parabola GNU/Linux

I have a iMac for my desktop and a server running linux that I run all my heavy compute tasks on. It's honestly the best way to do anything computer related because you get all the polish of Mac OS and gesture support and then I can SSH into my server. It's absurdly comfy.

If you're someone who can manage to "casually" drop the fact that you use Linux into most conversations, you'll love it

Correct. Linux has hardly any games but it has lots of productivity software. I'd like to see it stay that way because gamers are retarded toddlers that ruin everything they touch.

>inb4 WINE
WINE is meant for legacy programs that may tie people to Windows otherwise. It's not meant to play the latest and greatest bing bing wahoo garbage from Steam.

Don't you think it's a nitpick and it's immesurably better than MS or Apple?

Kernel is a linux not an OS

>he doesn't know about Proton
>he doesn't know that all Source engine games and plenty of AAA games are already ported to Linux

>source engine
Oh great, I can relive my childhood staring at gmod server loading screens.

I don't care. Please pack up your toys and fuck off back to /v/.

Looks like gaymers aren't the only retarded toddlers here

expanding your mind.

maybe they meant that the laptop came out 4 years ago, and they bought it after windows 10 was released, so it got preinstalled onto their laptop?
