Holy shit these meme graphite pads are the real deal. My CPU was idling at ~50C and hitting jet engine fans at 80C in games pretty quick. Now it idles between 40-50C, at really low fan speeds, and still hits jet engine fans at 80C, but it takes forever to get there in games that really stressed this shit before, and once the fans kick in, they don't have to work as hard getting the temperatures back down. 10/10 product, would recommend, would be shilled to by linus media group again.
I was actually going for the T420/T430 until I realized they only came with real shit panels, while this one has a 95% AdobeRGB (albeit still TN) 1080p display.

Should I buy a ThinkPad X230 in late 2018 ? Grade A i5-3320M 150€
Benjamin Lopez
I hear you can disable the GPU the t440p to cut down on the heat, but wouldn't this make the computer lag, especially if you have an upgraded IPS screen
Connor Powell
same, mine has a 1600x900 tho. I can't go back to 14" now, they look so small in comparison.
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook) Sure user.
Kevin Morgan
Is there a 2 in 1 thinkpad that isn't from the yoga line? I saw someone with one today but from a distance it didn't look like a yoga one.
Xavier Parker
Yeah but this doesn't need replacing. In theory anyway. The thermal pad I put on the non-die bit of the CPU might need replacing, though, but that's just there to electrically insulate the CPU from the graphite pad, and because I really wasn't feeling like cutting up my brand-new $10 piece of IHS because I'm lazy. Besides, if I was gonna buy actual paste, I'd buy Thermonaut for the same price as MX4.
no you won't know how shitty a laptop panel can be until you use a macbook air. A shitty 1600x900 VA panel from a T420 looks like fucking QLED when compared to it.
Jace Gonzalez
is an X230 with i5-3230M good or should I try to look for one with i5-3320M?
Benjamin Allen
they're very similar, don't worry about it
Lincoln Carter
the differences are: 3320m has vpro, i/o virtualization support, +100mhz. nothing dealbreaking on a shitposting machine imo
I think i asked this before but now that it's almost 2019 and haven't kept up with current/upcoming thinkpads I'll ask again: Is there a thinkpad or other laptop with these specs? >12"~13" 2-in-1 >pen pressure support >quad core >4:3, 3:2 or at least 16:10 ratio (1920x1200 minimum since my X61t has 1400x1050) >trackpoint of course Budget is up to ~$2000 or a bit more, my X61t is starting to show its age and everything on the market right now feels more of a compromise than an upgrade.
got a pristine condition T43 for next to nothing (literally less than $10 for something that looks like it's new from factory). What OS should I put on it? Gentoo is out of question (too slow cpu), XP is for gays and I already have a w2k machine(or machines, in that matter). I thought mostly about Debian w/ wmaker/i3 or something a bit more exotic like OS2 Warp/4, what do you think?
if everything on the market looks bad, either go for a X230 Tablet or X62/X210 - the latter of which lack the tablet option, but they're faster and they have screen ratios different than 16:9
so my t440p keyboard is failing, could i replace it with another lenovo laptop keyboard assuming it has the same connector ? has anyone tried this ? getting an oem "new" one will cost me almost half of what i paid for the laptop itself. why can't they make generic part or some shit like that ? fuck this.
I stupidly spilled hot cocoa on my t440p a few weeks ago, but the keyboard and trackpad are still working fine, thank god. It doesn't recognize its battery anymore, though. How do I fix that? I've shut down the computer several times and took out and put the battery back in and it just refuses to read it.
Jaxon Robinson
>X230 Tablet 16:9 >X62/X210 I knew about those and an X62 Tablet motherboard would be fucking perfect, however they never did that iirc At this point i think my only option would be a Surface Pro + one of those bluetooth thinkpad keyboards.
James Taylor
disassemble and check for liquid damage. there's probably a darker area near the battery. if there's nothing unusual there, can you check the lappie with another battery?
under any circumstances, DO NOT get the bluetooth thinkpad keyboard. newer models are absolute trash with different keyfeel than the good old TP keyboard. You should be able to get a ThinkPad SpaceSaver keyboard for quite cheap tho
Landon Long
lmao
Adrian Wilson
This is the only laptop I have. I'm honestly not sure if there's liquid damage or not since the splash of cocoa didnt reach anywhere near the battery
Xavier Gonzalez
Always remember you can upgrade your T530 with a i7 quadcore, 16 GB RAM and a 4K display and are able to replace nearly every single part.
T530 is really the best Thinkpad I can think of.
Noah Cook
then it's probably a matter of dying battery. get a replacement or return it if it's under warranty and try with a new one. If it doesn't work as well, you still can return it
Cooper Sanders
Gotcha. Yeah there was some weird stuff going on with it a few months before where it wouldn't charge when plugged in unless i fucked with it.
Thomas Nguyen
Is there any supporter quadcore CPU for T430? >wants to upgrade his Thinkpad to 1440p and quadcore.
Landon Wood
so do you actually use the fingerprint scanner
Angel Ross
Anyone's opinion on this?
>Is a used T410 a good machine with this config? >8gb ram >64 gb ssd >320 gb hd
>touchpad not working but who cares. idk
>It's the best thing locally for the price, and the same notebook with worse configs is being sold for double the price in other websites.
Brody Hall
nope
the fact that I don't have it doesn't help
Luis Martinez
T440 here, hit a snag
Wifi stopped working, so I replaced it with the card out of a T440s I believe (had no screen, was a discarded unit at work)
Anyways I cant boot without it giving me the unrecognised wifi card issue.
Anyone know of any whitelisted BIOS for my now cabled T440?
>T530 so if i wanted a thinkpad with a good screen and mobo/keyboard/keyboardclit, i should get one of those?
Jace Ortiz
>freely giving your finger unique patterns to the NSA
yeh
Jacob King
thank god i'm not an autistic freetard
Juan Roberts
user who got the cheap i3-7020U lenovo ideapad 330 here. The resolution was reported as 1536x864 on the spec sheet. I thought it might have been a real cheapo TN panel, but I suspect its actually a 1080p TN panel but someone's set the resolution lower and they haven't realised. 15.6 inch Laptops usually come in 1366x768 or 1920x1080 panels. Might be wrong, but if not I can live with TN at that resolution. The 4gb RAM *could* be soldered onto the motherboard, meaning the ram slot in there might be empty. Its an optional feature though, and I think its likely its going to have a 4gb DDR4 SODIMM in it. Could potentially have 12gb in there for that extra £20. 8gb would be OK still though. Overkill for browsing. It might not be professional grade hardware, but I think I got a good find. For £100 laptop. Can't wait to fix it up.
Adam Nguyen
make sure to set your charge thresholds in the bios.
Anyone know where I could get a screen upgrade for my T500? Most of the ones on eBay are either expensive as hell or don't say what resolution they are. 1280x800 is fucking killing me
Fuck me, that's more expensive than the ones on eBay. This machine is only worth about $50.
James Morgan
yes, any mobile ivy-bridge cpu with the QM suffix should work
Jackson Brooks
need a 90w power adapter for the ones that are 45w tho. i7-3632qm & i7-3612qm are 35w, will work with the 65w adapter, & will run cooler, but are clocked lower than their 45w counterparts
Brandon Watson
Is it safe to assume i7 x220s will have the IPS panels? Ones that were the highest tier at the time (8gb of RAM, 2640m)
Charles Adams
nope, not a sure bet at all t. i7 x220 w/ tn haver
Cameron Evans
Fug, guess I might be replacing the panel when it comes in. Couldn't beat the price I got it for
bought a x280 off of ebay for 700$ all included. i5 8350u, 256gb, 8 ram. and the fucking shit does not have a backlit keyboard or a fucking IPS. how do I mod it? how much would that cost? I WANT TO FUCKING DIE
yeah, all the x-series tablets and the Twist/Helix (which flopped and were forgotten almost immediately)
Sebastian Hernandez
How do u check for killswitches?
Logan Smith
Hey there, just bought my first Thinkpad and it's a nice machine! Only problem is that the battery is giving me issues in that it's not holding a charge. I checked the indicator and when I plug the adapter in, it turns green for a few moments, flashes orange slowly a couple times, flashes orage rapidly a few more, and then flashes green once more. I've tried unseating and resetting it incase the connectors were having an issue but that didn't seem to have an issue.
It's not a massive problem since I'm pretty much always near some sort of outlet but I'd still much rather it actually work as intended you know?
Anyone got any ideas before I try and contact customer service?
Should I just swap the hdd with the new sad and get a housing for the hdd and use it externally?
Luis Collins
battery is probably just old.
Gavin Gomez
I really hope you're right and it's not the charging circuit. It's put a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth so far but I'm willing to hold in there.
Lucas Edwards
>x280 lmao how could you fuck up that badly there's no modding it, enjoy your nu-pad
the battery is probably from 2011 or 2012 and has seen some heavy usage. of course it’ll die out eventually You can google how to run some battery diagnostics and it’ll tell you there clearly how fucked your battery is.
Caleb Ward
Wallpaper on left?
Ryder Turner
I actually ended up installing manjaro
John James
which thinkpad should I get if I want the Original ThinkPad Experience™
Angel Garcia
Yeah. After I do that I think I'll mess with the battery driver. I keep seeing around that there is a trick for that.
>W701ds I want one of those so badly, but they're expensive as hell so I'm not buying one. The dual screen, integrated wacom tablet, and colorimeter are cool as hell though
Alexander Scott
They don't "get it", they make it. Reflow CPUs several generations newer, higher res screens, pre-applied keyboard mods, everything you can buy in a retail store, only in China.
