CPU
>CPUs less threads usually suffer lower 0.1% minimums
>Athlon 200GE - Bare minimal desktop/gaming
>R3 2200G - Light gaming(dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-9700k/8700k/8700 - If you have a $2000+ budget and pairing with a 2080 or better
>R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

RAM
>Always choose at least a 2 stick kit
>8GB - Bare minimum/Light desktop use.
>16GB - Standard amount
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal. Check "more" for true latency formula

Graphics cards
>RTX 2000 cards; cheap models usually low yield processor. Aim for factory OC versions for best performance
>use your due diligence with cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others w/ small heatsinks and low quality fans. They may be cheap, but won't get high boost clocks like better models
1080p
>RX 570/580/1060 6GB - standard 1080p 60fps+ options
1080p@144hz
>Vega 56/1070ti best value, Free/G-sync monitor highly recommended
1440p@60-75hz
>Vega/1070ti/1080/2070
1440p@100+hz
>1080ti/2080
4K
>Upscale from 1620-1800p. Or 2080Ti, but awful value
OpenCL use
>Vega 64

Storage
>Backup before using StoreMi
>Consider a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Display
>Always consider FreeSync w/ AMD cards
>START YOUR BUILD WITH A MONITOR FIRST, then make a build to drive it appropriately

Bumping for common sense

is 1440 worth it?

getting a gpu that can handle it at high fps + a better monitor might as well double my budget

depends what you play matey

What type of HDDs are ideal for storing and playing media (video, audio) when paired with a SSD?

delid dis

1440p and 144hz? Good luck with that. Only 2080ti could probably do that.

WD blue? The usual, I suppose

pcpartpicker.com/list/bFTLKB
Is this fine?

You can obviously just throw whatever money you want at your build. It'll be fine. The Razer Huntsman is a surprisingly good keyboard

Suggestions for a next step up for the wraith cooler on a 2200g/2400g on a budget build? Cheers

>200$$$ for a fucking keyboard
Eh, it's your money.

Right now I have an fx8350 cpu
Would something like
amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Cooler-YD1600BBAEBOX/dp/B06XNRQHG4/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1543536276&sr=1-6&keywords=ryzen
be a good improvement? Id also have to get a new motherboard for this right?

I'm working on getting my first build together and I'm stuck on what GPU I'm gonna want for it. I WANT something meaty like a 1080, but I'm not sure I honestly need something that strong. The one thing I want out of it is a smooth ride on higher settings at 1080p when Doom Eternal comes out. That said, what do you guys think I'll want for that? Sorry if it's a dumb question or too /v/ for you, I just want a more experienced opinion than my own.

What monitor?

Are you overclocking? My 2200g doesn't go higher than 65°C under load at stock clocks and with the stock cooler.

Careful. If you're using a Gigabyte board you'll have a hard time OCing this a d maintaining temps even on water. Those boards put 1.4v through minimum.

Don't have a specific one in mind yet, I'm gonna need two (wanting to stream a little) and I'm not trying to break the bank so probably just a couple 60hz 1080p monitors.

Razer peripheral anything is trash, especially at $200. They're just paying for a name at that point.

Got mine for $120. Definitely not a $200 peripheral, but the opto-mech switches are nice. The dude clearly has unlimited money

1060 6gb will have you covered. I ran triple 60hz 1080p on mine. You might want to go higher though just because GPU prices are coming down.i just switched to a 1080 ti for my 1060 + £200

Itt; faggots with no sense of humour

So three of my ram slots stopped working and now I'm only using 4gb. I'm still using a i5 2500k at 4.2Ghz and a GTX 970 which is still fine.

Would it be wise to build a system now with a mid tier am4 cpu and then just replace with something better when Zen 2 comes out next year? or just wait completely until Zen2 to do a build.

I don't really play modern games anymore and I do more video editing so I don't really care about single core performance

is it still possible to pirate Windows? Does Windows Activator or Microsoft Toolkit still work?

Wait

>is it still possible to pirate Windows? Does Windows Activator or Microsoft Toolkit still work?
Yes

>Yes
any resources you can link me to?

Yeah, I've noticed 1080s are well under $500 now on Ebay, which I know is kind of a hit or miss deal but still. Good to know I have some wiggle room then, might even spring for a 1070 or 1070 Ti at that rate depending on what deals I can find. Thanks user.

I decided to upgrade my ye olde PC, but after seeing Intel prices and the general opinion, decided to try AMD for the first time in my life
current system is pic related
thinking of putting this stuff here pcpartpicker.com/list/F6qvCb
later i'll buy another stick of ram for a total of 16 gb and get a new GPU
i mainly play videogames in 1080p, emulators included, maybe sometime montage not very heavy videos; going to use SSD for system+couple games only

>>Yes
>any resources you can link me to?
I'm using kmspico

>The year old Ryzen
Why?

First time I'll really be trying overclocking and heard the stock cooler was a bit limited. MSI Tomahawk board coming, should I just wait until I upgrade the cpu to something better? Going to go for 2400g for the extra threads and use it for rendering and gaming till I can afford an upgrade. Thanks for response

kind of on a budget, honestly; 2600 already blows through it
also, the current pc is pic related, idk why it didnt stick

Attached: shit pc.png (634x570, 80K)

thoughts?

pcpartpicker.com/list/cQcXpG

How important is overhead when holding a PSU?
If 550W is sufficient, should you sill go for 650W? Does that translate to higher running cost or does that depend on other components?

Choosing, not holding. Fuck

Gtx 1080 or rtx 2070?

Attached: 1539327359508.png (1016x541, 125K)

>also, the current pc is pic related, idk why it didnt stick
>i3

This may be for /sqt/, but I figure I'll ask here anyway. Is DaVinci Resolve the best option for video editing across platforms these days? I need something that works across MacOS and whatever linux distro that I replace win10 with.

Pic unrelated, my editing PC.

Attached: rig.png (1029x893, 101K)

>I'm using kmspico
thanks.

Vega64. Or 1070ti. Either of those options are trash.

>$4500 for 60hz "gaming"
>1x stick if memory
>saving $10 to sacrifice 15% IPC improvement of a 2nd gen

How can anyone justify shit like this? Are reflections really worth quadruple the price of a reasonable PC?

Just donate if you don't know what to do with your money.

is there a problem with those $10 windows keys on eBay? is there a better place to get them?

>is there a problem with those $10 windows keys on eBay? is there a better place to get them?
Pirate

>Pirate
what's best? kmspico? windows activator?
which one is a botnet? both?

Both but kmspic cucks you lesser

>but kmspic cucks you lesser
why

Yes it is. Though I read it's pretty finicky about working on linux.
>Pic unrelated
You're fine. I don't know about working off only SSD but shouldn't be any different than a sufficient RAID setup.

yes

Which B350/450 motherboard in pic are the best deal?
Asian peso pricing is on pic too
planning to put 2200G/2400G on mATX/mITX

Attached: mATXmITX.png (1906x970, 1.44M)

Just get an 8100 i3 and a GTX 1050. There's no reason to be buying an APU, or AMD for that matter, in the current year.

>>but kmspic cucks you lesser
>why
Kmspico is russian bot whilst activator is American.
Who would you trust?

Not pro m2 I just got that. It has only 1 system fan header

>Just get an 8100 i3 and a GTX 1050.
Mazel to!!

mortar
or mortar titanium for the aesthetics

no, its more pricier, power hungry and shit
gtfo inlel shill, its not good for the long term

>amdrones more concerned about aesthetics
It's the price you pay for a superior experience

>superior experience
if im gonna bump the price for superior experience,
i will just add 1060/1070 and its way better than going shitnel

Anyone else have issues running 2 monitors on 20 series?

>have two 1440@144 monitors
>one's a 3 year old freesync because it was dirt cheap back then, other is new gsync
>980ti ran both fine
>get new 2080
>unable to use more than one or else PC just freezes
>freesync monitor is limited to 120hz instead of 144 for some reason
>tried making both 120 to match them, also upgraded 3 year old dp cable to 1.4
>nothing works
>plug in an old crummy hdmi cord
>works, stuck at 60hz but it works

I can't tell if this is a hardware problem and I should RMA it for a software problem and I should cross my fingers.

Looking to upgrade my computer. Do I get a new graphics card or a complete overhaul? Do I wait for new ryzens? Budget can be up to 1-1.5k AUD

Scythe Mugen 5 rev. B or Scythe Fuma rev. B?

Will they fit in my H15 case on my ASRock B450M Pro4 motherboard?

Answer the question

there's more than just height, like clearance over slots and such, I haven't built a PC in a long time

no need to be a dickhead, someone out there may have an answer quickly due to knowledge/experience and the entire point of this website is to discuss topics

why did you even post?

>i7-4790k
get Ryzen 7 2700x for 8c/16t and easy OC to 4GHz
would be better if you already have dual tower cooler like NH-D15
or get threadripper/wait for Ryzen 3000 series for higher core/thread
DDR4 3200/3000 CL15 16GB(2x8) is enough
and MSI x470 Tomahawk or equivalent
>Radeon HD 7950
Get Vega 56/64 for freesync or GTX 1070/1070ti/1080 for gsync
whichever fit your needs, i suggest with 8GB vram for longer life
pcpartpicker.com/list/J3fBWD

Attached: r7-2700x&gtx-1070ti.png (932x300, 27K)

Performs better than your AIO memery :^)

didnt notice you have 32gb but you can grab 2666mhz 32gb 2x16/4x8 for 200ish usd

>8gb vram for longer life
Just get a 390x lmao

lel what the fuck, you memers are memeing me into getting a $50 cooler and the $17 cooler performs within like 1-2%...

Attached: scythe fuma rev b deepcool gammaxx 400.png (2544x1430, 1.8M)

>i7 4790k to 2700X
Don't know if that user is actually looking for a downgrade

>marginally better than DR Pro4
>almost twice as loud
Get what you pay for I guess.

>390x
it already past its midlife
but why not take advantage of new smaller size and higher count transistor too for efficiency and speed?

Why the fuck didn't you get a ducky keyboard if you had 120$?

user, I own a Ducky keyboard. I have 3 keyboards

>get Ryzen 7 2700x for 8c/16t and easy OC to 4GHz
If I was buying to buy today I would get that CPU but Zen2 looks good
>would be better if you already have dual tower cooler like NH-D15
I do have a Phantecks tower cooler (two fans one radiator). Probably will need an adapter if I want to keep that.
>Vega 56/64 for freesync or GTX 1070/1070ti/1080 for gsync
I have a 43" Phillips with neither freesync nor gsync. I some gaming (witcher/divinity original sin). Cuda would be nice but with ROCm it doesnt matter as much. Which card would you recommend?

Ok so I know this isn't a pc request but I want to get a laptop for school that's under $300 USD. I might also attempt to do some light gaming on it. I'm trying to get one with at least 8 GB of ram and a somewhat new processor. Any recommendations?

Attached: gsdfgsdgfdssdg.png (1592x811, 415K)

oh look, benches that completely contradict these other benches
i love computers yay

>i7 4790k to 2700X
>Don't know if that user is actually looking for a downgrade
4c/8t -> 8c/16t
22nm -> 12nm
gee, how is it a downgrade to begin with?

It doesn't.

>5GHz to 4GHz
gee, how's that a downgrade

Just doing an AMD build have gotten a new case that had a deal to give a free PSU which is the
Rosewill LEPTON 700 Modular 700W Power Supply (80 PLUS GOLD Certified) so my question is does this shit work with a brand new Vega64 Air cooled and a Ryzen 2700 with a Hydrocooler? Is there any power issues? I want to avoid using my ai1200x in my current rig but will pull it if I have to. Gonna turn my current rig into a different machine for a different purpose (R9 390x+9590 hydrocooled).

Depending on how the 4970k is OCed you might end up with lower clock on ryzen.
There again some 4790ks may never make it to the clocks ryzen has

You'd need a new motherboard and RAM.

Nvm fixed it. Fucking nvidia drivers. Rolled back to 416.34 and that fixed it. Now gotta ignore updates until I find my shit fixed in the release notes.

Since the last 2 updates I had to reinstall them every single time after sudden blue screen and various crashes in gaymen.
It magically get back to normal after I reinstall the drivers...

You were meant to link

Define "light gaming". Those are integrated graphics, so I don't think you can play anything from this gen or even last gen with good performance. But emulating 90s stuff and game streaming should work fine. And of course not everything needs killer gfx... Steam's return policy means that you can buy a game, play for 2 hours or less, and refund it if it's not performing well enough for you.

anyone know if this is enough? I keep hearing the Vega64 is power hungry but a 700w 80+ Gold seems really more than enough

Bump

It's enough
