>install some shit from apt >it's so outdated it needs older dependencies >install those older dependencies >they are too old too, install dependencies for them >too far deep in, nothing works, all my dependencies are outdated, no new software reliably works, old software takes minutes to find and install due to all the outdated-dated mishmash of packages you have
HAHAHAHAHA "flagship linux" my ass, whoever uses this barely-working distro (even on unstable) is going to hate himself every few months, when there is new software to update
stop blaming your distro and just use appimages faggot
Joshua Gutierrez
Actually I really love debian. Nice bait.
Austin Jackson
>Arch user >A series of unfortunate breakages >Educational but frustrating >initramfs suddenly breaks on my machine after an update >I've had enough >Switch to Debian >Nice minimal install leaves me with the essentials and a command prompt >Just werks >Get my rice up and running >Just werks >Install all my favourites >apt-cache search means I don't even have to open a browser to see what the packages are called >Just werks >Hey I can even have a stable gaming experience now The memes are real, Debian just werks
>Install a more obscure program like surf >It's still on ancient and highly insecure webkitgtk rather than webkit2gtk like other distros >Will remain out of date because nobody cared enough to update it.
Noah Robinson
Learn about APT pinning and backports.
Connor Lewis
Install Gentoo.
Nicholas Myers
No thanks, autist Yeah? I'll wait for your post in a few month about how you accidentally fucked your computer with antique software HAHAHAHAHAHA Go fuck yourselves, autists.
Xavier Richardson
And if anyone doesn't believe me and thinks i'm shitposting, check it out for yourself. packages.debian.org/stable/web/surf It's version 0.7 from 2015. With debian you run the risk for lesser used or lesser known programs remaining far out of date for a so called distro that cares about security and stability.
David Hall
>im too stupid to select proper repo branch how is that debian's fault you brainlet?
Noah Rodriguez
>stable are you retarded? you do realize that stable debian branch IS NOT updated with newer software versions since release every two years, right? thats by design if you want your software updated, you use testing branch fucking idiot lmao, you didnt even read documentation kek
Jayden Wright
>Debian is supposed to be broken out of the box.
Leo Brooks
>stable branch >complains about old packages everyone laugh at this retard
>debian is stable >but only the obsolete branch >which is a gruesome patchwork in itself >haha use unstable >but debian is stable >calls anyone retard
Robert Garcia
>use Fedora >get new versions of everything pretty soon after upstream releases it >everything is awesome until >find some software that isn't in the repos that claims it runs on loonix >tested against ubuntu/debian Try to compile it. It requires outdated versions of dependencies. It seems you don't even have to use Debian to hate how out of date it is.
Dominic Cox
holy shit, you actually are unironically retarded lmao
let me spell it out to you: stable in debian terminology means "not changing versions", not "not buggy"
you would have known that if you at least read the FAQ
Alexander Garcia
debian itself is responsible for a million broken burned CDs for years thanks to their cdrkit fork
Jaxson Reyes
>not "not buggy" HAHA there you have it everyone, right from the horses mouth >whose the retarded one nao :^)
Noah Baker
Ubuntu, probably the most out-of-box polished desktop distro is based on debian testing/unstable, dumbass. What you get in debian unstable is essentially on the same level of reliability of arch's (and similar distros) main repo.
its still the most reliable, because its frozen and tested for many months before release, but its not the main point do i really need to explain everything to you like you are 5?
Chase Carter
except arch doesn't but grub's mbr on the install medium
Brandon Butler
>not "not buggy" lol. I miss when this was implied.
David Butler
??? Neither does debian.
Ian Johnson
>but put
yeah i like butts
Alexander Myers
Would you care to elaborate on how you are too stupid to find a package in repo even tho you know its name? topkek
Lincoln Scott
>need to explain Nah you covered it pretty well with not "not buggy." It's a piece of shit.
considering this is a debian thread and there's a well off probability you're using it, i find it funny you tried to belittle anyone with the >2018 meme
Levi Sanders
i didnt say debian stable is "not not buggy" anywhere google implication brainlet
Henry Martin
This distro is a joke. Stick to Centos guys. You will be better of.
Carter Walker
Weird, I just checked and I have webkit2 installed on my Debian... Sounds like you are lying.
Hunter Long
just how assmad are you now that everyone in the thread showed you how retarded you are lmao its not debians fault, you have only yourself to blame
Cooper Richardson
That brings me back to the old "C pointers suck" threads by webdevs, the butthurt from their own incompetence was gold.
The law of double negation doesn't hold in constructivist logic, since it implies excluded middle. Checkmate.
Jayden Watson
lmao, maybe he is a webdev too, kek
Aiden Parker
>waaah is a year old so it doesn't work then every software ever is broken because in some years it will be old? Your metric is retarded, they do security updates, there are no easy holes to get into a Debian machine, and everything works as intended, there are few bugs that can just be solved by upgrading to a new version, but it introduces more bugs by itself than just fixing a version for some time without adding shit
Robert Ward
Sounds to me like it says a lot about you rather than about debian...
Michael Hernandez
>there are no easy holes to get into a Debian machine systemd
Luke Morris
>install some shit from apt >it's so outdated it needs older dependencies t. things that didn't happen
Flagship linux are RedHat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise.
Aaron Moore
>not "not buggy" Somebody put me in the screencap for the next time a Debian user makes their bogus meme claims.
Samuel Wood
>willingly using debian "jurassic" stable for desktop
Ayden Barnes
I'm probably dense but trying to get debian stable to recognise a vega 64 to push a higher res than 1600x1200 has been a rabbit hole that never ends. Been crawling though backports, sid, non-free until I called it quits.
Installed manjaro and it just werks.
Connor Flores
I want to like fedora so bad, but there are three reasons I cannot look past >includes blobs in default kernel, which was never TOO bad, but in new releases they literally recommend select non-free software from rpmfusion-nonfree repos such as nvidea drivers and even google chrome (wtf?) >requires external repos (e.g. rpmfusion) for packages like mpv >corporate backed instead of community backed like debian. I know fedora is technically a community distro, but the majority of devs are redhat guys
Other than these things it would be perfect. The last one especially is relevant now, whereas before people would be like >hurrr durrr why do you care if it’s backed by RH they’re not going anywhere!!!1!!
Owen Reed
I don't know what threads you were in but no one talking about c pointers was web developer lying retard. We were shilling for good languages like Ada and Rust. It makes sense that a cnile would use a distro stuck 20 years in the past.
Camden Roberts
I don't get this, people meme about debian every day and dont know the first fact that is repeated to infinity on their wiki - that the stable version means that packages have frozen features and only get security patches and bug fixes. How can you even be interested in technology without having any reading comprehension?
Cooper Carter
it’s the same people who ask ‘should I use stable or testing or aid?’ even though the debian FAQ explains it. Don’t worry though, they usually end up using arch or something.
Joseph Thompson
>new software is for newfags like you. get your fat ass out of this venerable board you distrohopping windows monkey
