B-but it's NTFS and APFS that were supposed to be shit, Linux bros!
NTFS is decades old and still better than any modern freetard shit. How?
All of the freetards are in desktop threads or in windows/mac threads pointing out "bugs" (apparently 1px visual glitches are more important than borked file systems).
This is why I use debian
use a real kernel like 4.9
...
COPE HARDER YOU KEK LMAO
>ext4
Get with the times, grampa.
I use arch btw.
you guys told me ext4 was safe
>retards blaming it on ext4
remember when a windows update deleted user files this year?
my os at least doesn't force me updates
and I can always do
downgrade linux # thank you based arch
whats the new hot thing?
Nothing but btrfs
dr pavel I'm BSD
Is it actually stable? If I wanted to switch from ext4 should I reformat?
*samefagging intensifies*
>forgetting all about the october ipdate deleting files
lol
Yes just don't use it for raid unless its 0 or 1
I would reformat but I think you can switch pretty easily
you tried
So this is why, after upgrading to 4.19.1, I sometimes couldn't boot and had to run fsck?
Fucking trannies
what snapshot manager do you recommend for using with btrfs?
seems like it, but some people are reporting in the bug's comments that fsck doesnt seem to do much to actually prevent the corruption
>I'm on 4.19.2
FUCK. FUCK YOU ARCH. FUCK.
it deleted them straight from his brain lmao
I was updating to mainline kernels before this, scared me shitless and I'm now on 4.18.0-11 and hibernate instead of shutting down
"we guys" also told you to make backups
that's not at all hard to fabricate op
ubuntu master race!!! ill get to this version in like 2 years, it will be fixed by then
this comment in the bugzilla mentions my exact problem: bugzilla.kernel.org
aur.archlinux.org
don't be retarded and learn to use google
pretty spooky. im running Gentoo on my machines here and I just downgraded to 4.18.20 and masked 4.19.0+ until it gets fixed
>installed arch yesterday
>4.19.4
not even scurred
>What is zfs
>How to switch kernel version
There's literally no problem here, except for bleeding egde faggots.
This. You can even run multiple kernels if you want. Glad I don't use Windows.
muh bleeding edge onionboys btfo
debian stable wins again
Cringe
Not really a problem
desktop is too easy to fake
if you want proof you need to screenshot from android
yeah, reverting after half of your files got corrupted isnt a problem at all
mobileposter brains everybody
None of my files got corrupted, speak for yourself
CoCk'd
why downgrading if everythings working™? :^)
Too lazy to read, is this one of these randomly appearing, hard-to-reproduce bugs?
Oh look, another (((UPDATE))) ruining everything. It's a hard pill to swallow but updates are not mandatory - if your system works, don't touch it. That's how it used to be, and that's the best way.
yes. the bug hasnt been officially confirmed yet because testers are having trouble reproducing it
For the sake of safety.
dont forget to revert you files from a backup too, i would not trust in them anymore
The source code is available, why don't they just read it and figure out any possible places of corruption? Or could filesystems have bugs that extend way into the kernel?
Linux 4.19 isn't considered stable in all sane distros.
wtf I love Windows nao
because the ext4 driver is a kernel module and that would mean reading through hundreds if not a couple thousand lines of code to find the bug just by reading it
All my backups are on ext4.
I will checksum them later.
Windows and macOS are the only OSes worth a shit. Hobbyist crap is still hobbyist crap.
This
No, because you only need to focus on the relevant diff between 4.19 and prior versions if you really suspect it's a 4.19 bug.
Ive been using timeshift idk if it actually works though I haven't had to roll back anything
>tfw
$ uname -r
4.19.6-CST
This post makes no sense. The update that deletes files was literally only available manually before they pulled it
then downgrade to 4.18 and wait for 4.20 (DUDE LMAO) to come and fix it
>linux is hobbyist
absolute state of Jow Forums
I'm on based Ubuntu LTS (4.15.0-39-generic) and don't have to worry. But bugs like this could creep in.
rpool/rootfs on / type zfs (rw,relatime,xattr,noacl)
>He's still using shitty data-eating filesystems in 2018
>could creep in
how exactly, considering that the bug appeared in 4.19 first
by the time you get this version the bug will be long gone
>all this samefagging
show me where linux touched you OP
>thinks ext4 is mandatory for Linux
>is unaware that you can, unlike windows, use other filesystems such as xfs, reiser, btrfs, ext2, ext3, etc...
fuck off paid winshill
Works on my machine TM
Probably faggots with obscure configuration suffer
>downgrading after it corrupted all your files
But why would I use ext4 when btrfs exists? It's better. Its literally in the name.
because it's still buggy piece of shit, even Red Hat dropped it from CentOS 8
1. There are currently no reports of the bug occuring on arch
2. Backed up files can't get corrupted this easy
Hm.
Good thing linux can utilize other file systems, huh?
>Not using refs
>not knowing that ReFS was responsible for the corruption of every database in every testing environment during its initial testing phase
>Initial testing phase
Wow it's almost like that was the point
It hasn't even been a year of political bullshit infiltrating Linux and its effects are already becoming apparent.
Linus never stood a chance.
But when during the test it fails literally every test possible? Is that really acceptable?
Good thing I run CentOS and probably won't live to see this deployed.
You were right.
>window updates deleting your files right where you left them.
>4.4.157
Why are you posting here? Shouldn't you be busy running a defragger again?
It's ok. They are focusing on what matters:
phoronix.com
who still uses ext4.............
effects of the AIDS-ridden tranny CoCk already showing?
>4.19
Not an LTS release so it's irrelevant.
>$ uname -r
>4.19.3-300.fc29.x86_64
shiiiiiiiiit
oh wait I'm using btrfs
Fucking finally...something for you tards to rave on about besides a code of conduct being an international homosexual conspiracy.
ZFS is a piece of shit
wasting 5% of disk space with raidz1 compared to simple raid5
ZFS cant even delete files and reclaim space properly
bcachefs
>not using XFS
You know there's more than one file system you can use in Linux, right niggers?
>win10 update deletes files
HehhahHahrhahdhh3haHhehaheh WinKeKkS BTFOoo xxdDDdddDdd
fragmentation
thanks for the heads up. downgraded to 4.18 on all my machines
There is nothing wrong with ext4. It's the Linux kernel 4.19 that is at fault for corrupting the fs.
Note: this version was NOT pushed by torvalds but rather by Greg Kroah-Hartman. This comes right after torvalds was given a demonstration of power from the SJW infiltrators when they forcefully threw him out for a week. This also comes at a time where a CoC was added to linux (october) and the word "fuck" was replaced by "hug" kernel-wide.
Actually sounds interesting, never heard of it before. Anyone got a comparison with the crapware that's btrfs and the borked shit that's zfs on linux?
they seriously use anything but Btrfs
NOT SO FAST AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA
looks like it affects all file systems
>Michael Duell 2018-12-02 19:17:31 UTC
>I have had file system corruption with 4.19 on a BTRFS file system as well. 4.19.2 Kernel. I think this has to be related.
>I have even tried a NEW and FRESH btrfs file system created via a LiveCD system and it happened there as well as soon as I did a btrfs send/receive operation. I am on a Thinkpad T450.
