Best battery life in class, nothing contests this and debatably best display. Macos is also the best os for programming imho. Iterm2 is the best terminal. Speakers are top tier. Oh and the best track pad ever mad3, undebatable. Super thin and light with top teir fit and finish

I never understood the bringing a laptop to class meme. Here if you pull out a laptop in the middle of class you will be literally asked to leave most often with the words "If you aren't interested in the lecture just leave". Surface products are pretty shit for notetaking in my experience.
Ipad is the only tablet even worth considering for school, but still limited by ios. Its based for notes though.
Any laptop will do laptop things, just think about any software you might need and is it windows or mac specific

extra ram if you need

the HD cable can go, and sometimes the ram slot.

BUT

you can have zero down time , when one fails you just contiune on the other one, use carbon copy everyday or so as a back up system

and you can strip one of these down and re assemble at will.

I have completely disassembled and put back to replace keyboard.
