I really don't care as long as it works without issue. So far Ubuntu and Debian are perfect. About to try Fedora because why not.

There used to be something called PyTile or something. If I recall it was a pyton script to make tiling work on openbox.
I think it's dead now.

GNOME with thumbnails in the file chooser

>>Describe your dream DE

Idiot.

xfce has basic tiling, you don't need more

Gnome 2 MATE is a comfy DE. Clearlooks GTK Theme. Hedera (Modern Tango icon set). Non-flat (i.e, not modern) Non-glossy (i.e, not hipster) but with warm color palette and soft gradients. Nostalgic and beautiful.

linux but it's like windows

fpbp

Came here to say this

KDE without systemd. I tried Devuan and it was nice but quite outdated.

Oh and unity

Window Maker

I3 with better config options and full integration with tmux and vim

gentoo my dude.

Windows 3.1 on 64bit steroids

this
works for me.
But is there a way to remove title bars?
It really bothers me when windows are tiled

iirc you can either right click on them

or cp the xfwm4 theme to .local/themes and edit it

>right click
what?

XP luna

nvm

spatry had a video about this but it's for all windows

the dream de is the one you make yourself

This, i3wm is possible also, but the integration is not that good
I wonder why there is not an alternative tiling way to play with windows in each wm

fvwm

modern KDE which is low on resources

XFCE with Win 3.1's mostly-universal customization GUI. If you have to use a text editor to change basic shit, it's a bad DE. XFCE's mostly there, but it's still more trouble than it's worth to get some things just right.

Are you going to share your desktop everyday, in 3 different threads, every fucking week?

let me check it out.

>XFCE
Probably what Ill use when win7 kicks the bucket as far as software support. But yeah it's a little all over the place when you need to change things.

>But yeah it's a little all over the place when you need to change things.

this is an issue. also, the default is to switch workspaces with the mouse wheel, which flies at light speed across all of them if you accidentally let the mouse drop down onto the panel. Like who the fuck ever uses the mouse wheel to switch workspaces in the first place.

>inb4 I do it all the time

but that's what I love about XFCE, the perfect layout for the workspaces. I keep specific things in each one, so instead of having to look at tabs and finding a task, I just click on workspace number N.

dumb evatard

but of course. linux is for expressing thyself through the delicate process of ricing it and presenting it for people, so they can appreciate my deep taste for aesthetic desktop.

I get the impression that lots of linux fanbois use their computer primarily to create desktops that show lots of information about their uber rig.

lile i said, you'd copy the xfwm theme to your ~/.local/ and edit it to 0 height, basically

>Win 3.1
absolutely disgusting

Found video on cup of linux channel.
It worked

xenodm + dwm with window borders for floating.
>a time machine that lets me recover the time i invested into tweaking it

Attached: ypgjlk.jpg (800x597, 87K)

Do you know you can ACTUALLY CODE THIS FEATURE YOURSELF?

dwm with a keyboard-controllable floating mode, in the style of 2bwm
dwm's already patrician, but that would be perfect

Attached: wojaknirvana.jpg (500x637, 107K)

Try... resizing your shit, faggot.
Nah it lacks extremely basic features which is why I switched to i3.

wat

dwm sucks because it doesn't use xcb like i3 masterrace

Have fun with those plaintext config files pleb, true tilers edit the source to perfect their rice

enjoy your even inferior xorg with maximum autism

>Maximal autism
>Maximal xorg
I see no problems here

You can't even resize windows without breaking the tiling.

>without breaking the tiling.

someone pls post screenshot of tiling that actually makes sense

>how fucking big is your monitor anyway

Haiku with proper hardware support.

no one sane uses i3 for tiling

Gnome without systemd or being coded in javascript, Tray icons built in, Better devs And a lot more portable. With these it will actually be quite a good desktop

Please turn the redditspacing off, thanks.

This

>Ubuntu, fedora
>Gnome
Kill yourself

>Please turn the redditspacing off, thanks.

why do people dislike double spacing. is it a phone thing?

Go back to 2013

GNOME 3 as it is. Perfection

It's something about reddit requiring double spacing for a new line.

People who point it out are just redditers trying to fit in too hard.

Xfce without fucking screen tearing and preferably without FOOT toolkit.

Xcept it works like ass
>low framerate
>stuttering when you play a video
it's shitty

I don't have any of these problems.

prepare to be amazed then
notice how my mouse never moves

Attached: output1.webm (1280x1024, 867K)

Easy:
>Kwin's scripting and effects
>GNOME3's dynamic workspaces and keyboard shortcuts
>KDE software suite except gParted and Evolution instead of kpartitionmanager and Kmail
>macOS layout (bottom dock, global menu up top)

welcome to ricing. It used to be popular on windows in the vista/7 days, but the programs you had to run on top of windows made it run like shit. Linux remains usable.

go on r/unixporn if you want to see some real shit.

I've never met a linux user IRL that wasn't using stock GNOME, Unity, or Plasma. Ricing appears to be a niche within a niche

that's because you're used to them

Linux is a kernel

I'd like it if it ran for more than a week without requiring a log off/log in. I'd also love extensions that aren't crashy as hell. The performance leaves a lot to be desired too.

GNOME3 is still years ahead of windows and macOS as far as efficiency and usability.

yep! It's also a colloquial shorthand for a family of operating systems!

You are such a smart cookie

dwm users, have you tried Awesome? If so, convince me to switch. I love the idea of minimalism (which to be fair Awesome is pretty minimal itself), but dwm offers such limmited flexibility. On the other hand I fucking hate lua.

you don't need extensions tho, except for the night light one

funny, that's actually built in now. The only one i need is caffeine, which is like a presentation mode button

that should be more like linux or imo lunix
but really it's just gnu

>built in
nah it changes instantly from red to blue, it's ass and it's also useless during the day

u right about GNU

Good thing everything said ITT applies to non-gnu linux distros like alpine or android

well yes that's why i think lunix is better than linux as
1 it doesn't imply the kernel
2 it also includes bsd type stuff

>How did you add resize functionality
>Where did you get a proper gaps patch for vertical and bottom stack layouts
I've already got pertag, extra layouts, fancybar, status info etc but this would be perfection
TELL ME user, I MUST KNOW

Attached: pepepopcorn.jpg (540x568, 85K)

one with little weirdos peaking at me through the window bars. little sprites or something. and eyeballs. Some faces and shit

The pcs with KDE at my school also have some "mascot" thing that jumps around the screen
Obviously there is an eyes option

>fancy bar
why are you bloating yout shit up
a simple xsetloop in .xinitrc is more than enough

I like to be able to pop the bar up and see the titles of all the windows open in a workspace, even when not visible in monocle mode. All I've got in .xinitrc is a simple clock script, I don't need anything else with keyboard bound volume control set up in config.h
What compositor are you using? I get flicker when resising windows with xcompmgr

Attached: helpergudpost.png (255x204, 50K)

All you need is a simple line in dwm.c that changes the monocle mode M to the number of windows.
all that other shit is stupid and ruins the point of dwm, just use awesome at that point

Eh, my setup's pretty comfy, couldn't switch to another wm now I've got used to dwm's configurability

Attached: 1543840275637.jpg (212x212, 15K)

Gnome 3 but not shit

awesome is a dwm fork with lua compat
its better for "modding"

Interesting, didn't know that

I would love to be able to finally send my project to space

Cinnamon but faster/lighter.

this! just make your own xfwm theme!
