CRISPR is still on the road on becoming a big thing in genetic manipulation, but it still has way too many potential issues to be safe for medical use. Maybe with more research it might get good enough.

It will definitely give us a lot of knowledge and will potentially help us get to the point where it't actually safe, but in the meantime all those failed experiments will breed and spread their defects to everyone else.
