I don't know why everyone says Tumblr is cancer. Yes there's a lot of SJW crap there but it's not like you're exposed to it as long as you don't follow those blogs. It was a great platform for discovering new porn. There were feeds dating back several years that will be impossible to find elsewhere and unlike twitter, the navigation was a lot nicer for browsing pictures.

It wasn't just random bad luck, Tumblr has apparently been a bit of a safe haven for pedos because the Tumblr staff is retarded. In order to report illegal content you have to click on the share button of all things, and often when illegal content is removed the post and its notes will remain, just no picture. This allows all the people who reblog cp to stay connected and share more in the future. And it's all made worse by the general slowness with which Tumblr has responded to reported content and pages in the past.

Absolutely, you have native access to the device. So for instance you can ID users extremely reliably (there's no "clear cookies" button in apps, no "resist fingerprinting" option, etc.), and since nobody actually checks for used permissions you can gather fucktons of data about what your users do.

Also, native apps might have something to do with user retention or whatever. In the sense that if you have a website open in a tab in a browser you might go close that tab, or just not check back for a while, but if you have a dedicated app sitting on your homescreen it might encourage you to spend more time using it. I don't have any data on this but it seems likely.

When I first read about that shit I wanted to check it out myself, couldn't believe that there was actual CP on the very surface of the web, then I found it and since I never saw it before, not even here on Jow Forums, I got myself a psychological trauma, which is doubly ironical considering that the internet never managed to make me physically and emotionally sick before, and of all site it was on tumblr that happened. I'm sure there's a cautionary tale in it somewhere. All in all, I'm glad it's going down.
