Before best way was to download full size profile picture by visiting sites like instadp org/com or izuum.
Now it's stuck at 320x320 resolution. lol
Closest so far I found is:

>click to zoom on profile picture
>press F11 for fullscreen
>copy & paste it to gimp
>crop black borders & save it as jpeg with 95% quality setting

Easiest & fastest solution is to press CTRL & + to zoom page to 300% and click on view image to get full size.
They are talking about profile picture/display picture.
Posts are easy to download, it's the profile picture that gets fucked up everytime they change the api.

Right now it's better than 320x320.
Until they update those sites due the changed api & you will be able to download up to 2048x2048, this is the highest quality you have for now.

Nope, those sites are working unlike others I tried, who give you 320x320.
Right now they don't work bc they changed the api, but they were always fastest to implement the working solution.
It took less than a day last time.

hackish script I made long ago and it still works for pics and videos. you can see when IG downscales the source url, it has /750x750/ etc in the url, but they don't seem to do that anymore.

With today's deprecation of the API v1 and last year the new URL hashes which prevents you from simply removing parts of the URL, were in need of a new solution, probably involving the new Graph API
