And African Americans are by now a distinct genetic group from their ancestors in Africa (at least as far as paternity tests are concerned), so the distinction that someone is an African American is more handy than Black, which is a huge generalisation. In fact the suggestion that we should call them all blacks is more of a racial implication that the initial post.
