What are your thoughts on FreeBSD?

Is it good?
Is it Bad?

dtrace and kqueue are clearly superior to linux counterparts

it's fun to mess around with but I always go right back to linux just because everything works fine without having to make and mess around with xorg.conf. OpenBSD works ootb with all of the drivers that support it but that list is very small even with fw_update

how is kqueue superior to epoll?

it's not bad but it's not usable as a daily OS. i tried trueos with lxde, maybe there are some better combinations.

Really like the idea of a full OS compared to the fragmentation of Linux distros.
Solid OS too, I could see myself using on a workstation.

Just moved over to it a month ago.

Really enjoying it, working my way through
Absolute FreeBSD book which is pretty awesome.

Early days not sure if I'll keep it as my daily driver,
but looking promising.

free from GNU cancer so its good
unusable for daily usage (compared to linux distros)

They are dependent on Apple Clang so fuck it.

The main product of the BSD license is the BSDs, and the main product of the GPL license is GNU/Linux.
And here you admit that the products of GPL are better, while still calling GPL itself cancer.
Do you not see?

No, they compile in both Clang and GCC.

Even openbsd made the switch

>unusable
try again
t. moved off of linux ages ago, now netbsd/openbsdfag

Is it possible to compile the FreeBSD base system with GCC? It defenitly won't be possible in the future. That's how these (((companies))) backing LLVM always do.
It sucks.

BSD licensing is inherently susceptible to corporate attacks.

of course it remains possible to compile the BSDs using GCC

the netbsds still have a dated GCC as part of the compiler base set (3.3 or 4.2)

Good OS, ports is great, sound server is good, but like everything else these days there is sjw cancer

How so?

Clang/Apple/Google/Amazon/Microsoft C extensions ™ coming soon.

Read on epoll flaws and misdesignes and you will see.

Also epoll is only for file descriptors. Kqueue is for way more kernel events.

>clang
>applel
it's not like Google is major Clang contributor

I use FreeBSD on servers and it's very good in that role. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a desktop though, it doesn't have as many drivers or GUI software as Linux does.

*hugs*

>implying there aren't a ton of shitty GNU extensions too

HardenedBSD is better in every way

indeed
>can't compile linux with anything but GNU C
