Reposting.

I need a gift for my brother, and I've been constantly thinking about what I could get him that he would use and appreciate, and eventually I decided on headphones/headsets since he plays online games. So I need some recs on what to get him, hopefully before the 25th.

>Budget
~$100 optimally, but can go up to ~$150ish

>Location
US

>Source
Just a regular computer, so USB or Aux or whatever.

>Type of headphone
Full sized for sure, maybe with a mic. I don't know if it's better to get one separate though.

>Open or closed
Closed, I think.

>Comfort level
Pretty comfortable, but mostly I want quality sound. Optimally a balance of both.

>Sound signature
Well he's not an audiophile, so I don't think this matters.

>Past headphones
Just some Best Buy shilled "top brands" like Steele Series.

Please and thank you.

if your budget is 100, takstar pro 82
if your budget is 150, beyerdynamic dt770 or akg k702
idk if you need an amp though. usually people recommend the 250ohm, and i think akg are hard to drive. but i can't remember.

Thanks. If you don't mind, can you provide a quick and dirty laymen's explanation to the technical differences between them? I'm not really an audio guy and I just need to be briefly informed for this decision. Things like what are good things to look for, what are bad things, which brands to avoid, which ones rip you off or which ones really give what you pay for, etc.

ITS now you retard OP /csg/ doesn't want them anymore.

$4000 SR-009 was rated lower in blind tests than a $200 K701

LOL, Stax shitphones are literally audiophool garbage

Stax incels on suicide watch

Fuck off.

the takstar pro 82s are closed back so they'll be good for like solo gaming where you don't want to hear your brother yelling in the next room.
same with the dt770. closed back. great for gaming.
the akg702s are kind of the same but they'll sound better and they're open back. this means you'll hear your brother yelling in the next room, but the overall sound will be better.

See if you can get the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus and a V-Moda Boompro.

that's another good solution ye

Takstar is absolute garbage compared to Bosshifi B8

God I want to go on a date with her and then after she has walked around all day she can rub my penis with her stinky smelly feet until I cum all over them

u gotta explain why when arguing against a recommendation bruv, sorry

>so they'll be good for like solo gaming where you don't want to hear your brother yelling in the next room.
lol, they're for him, not me. From the ones you presented me, I'm leaning towards the Beyerdynamic, I mean, can't go wrong with that legendary German craftsmanship, right? But on the other hand, the AKG looks a little more aesthetic.

Well like above, was leaning towards the BD, but aight. Let me check those ones out.

What happened that $2400 cans have this shit FR?
Did the guys at Sennheiser literally slap a gorilla glass cap on the driver without modifying it? That sounds completely retarded.

Attached: nanithefuck.png (1793x764, 420K)

the akgs are chink garbage sadly. the k712 are not but they cost you twice as much.
the beyers however are notorious for harsh treble, and i work a lot with loud fuckin treble rape music so i NEEEED dark headphones.

it's sennheiser what did you expect?
>stretch some mylar, $50000!
>cut a hole, $1700!
>put some glass, $2400!

stop being retard or dont make the OP

give me (You)s when plebs be beggin

Hmm. Ok, but again, for his purposes, it'll mostly be gaming, voice chat and music listening, not music production, so I have no need for that kind of equipment. I don't know how noticeable a thing like harsh treble would be for somebody that's not specifically looking to notice that.

As far as the Custom One goes, it seems to be modular. Does that have any particular effect in sound quality or possible distortion since the headphones will have to rely on the quality of the cable it's attaching to? As opposed to the DT770 which is all one unit?

Update the fucking wiki links you cunts, a bunch have been dead for ages.

>incredible sound
>009
i'm dead lmfao

Custom One Pros have tame treble actually.

>PX 100-II discontinued
>PX 200-II discontinued
>people really have no choice but to buy dog shit Koss now

Where can I buy foam to do this?

Attached: 1544798027816.jpg (2000x1500, 1.42M)

amazon "memory foam"

all cables are audibly transparent

I don't know what that means.

they sound the same

Not true.

>Does that have any particular effect in sound quality or possible distortion since the headphones will have to rely on the quality of the cable it's attaching to?
Not really, some cables are more microphonic than others, but that's about it. Most Anons seem to agree that having detachable cables is a plus since that's usually the first thing to get broken, so you can just get new cables without worrying about soldering or having to get new headphones.
In the case of the Custom One it helps that the plug fits most cables, as opposed to many headphones with proprietary plugs that only accept specific cables of the same brand.
Do check some reviews about it on YouTube, if i'm not mistaken there actually is one that compares the Custom Pro + Boompro with some HyperX headset (that's not too bad either for a headset).

I keep getting stupid shit like pillows, not anything I can craft with

unless you've got some ridiculously reactive cable, yes it is true

memory foam square sheet

Hmmm. Ok. I really much prefer the aesthetic look of the DT770/880 over the Custom Pro, but I'm 99% certain he needs the mic too, and I don't think a desk mic is going to be favorable to him.

I'm also falling into that trap of reading all the one star reviews and holding them with twice the weight of the 5 star ones, essentially dissuading me. I know that most of the time the one star reviews are by idiots who don't know how to treat their tech or just simply got unbelievably unlucky, but still, I can't help it.

Is the V-Moda really actually good, or is there something better?

I guess I'll just get the $10 pad thing. way too much foam but whatever

Stuffing foam under the pad lip is a great comfort mod for any headphone you have issues with, I have foam strips in most of my headphones. The sheet is a good investment and memory foam works way better than rolled up paper towel which I used to use.

>Stuffing foam under the pad lip is a great comfort mod for any headphone you have issues with
this goes for chairs too. just got a square sheet the same size as my chair seat. my butt is thankful :^)

How long do stax take to come from japan?

a lot of closed headphones have that cup resonance in the lower midrange, the HD820 just happens to be bad with it
guide is trash, dt1990 isnt slight v, stax arent neutral

Also I'm seeing a good amount of complaints re. the earpad quality on the Custom One's. This seems to be common enough problem to warrant replacements. What would be the recommended replacement?

Best replacement pad for Ath-ad900x with angled pad? Should I go sheepskin if I want slightly more bass or stick with velour?

Attached: 1544778690521.jpg (1384x1507, 1.29M)

>guide is trash
that's too bad because I'm going to keep posting it and you can kvetch all you like sapphire

I own these as well. Do you own any other headphones? I was hoping to compare sounds.

nice bogeyman posting, the only good headphones on that guide are the hd600, k612 and dt880, everything else is literally shit, now fuck off and kill yourself

kek he mad

Attached: repub and dems.gif (255x247, 64K)

I see the same resonance in my 569, but it's actually not as retarded as in 820.
+8dB in 100-200Hz range and then 6dB dip at 300Hz my ass, this abomination looks like a failed prototype than an end product.

What would this sound great on?

You can go with DT770 Velour pads, which last longer and are more comfortable. Brainwavz also offers several options of pads, but i'm not sure about which one is compatible. They do answer about it whe you ask though.

Awesome. So I'm set then. Going with the Custom Pro + V-Moda Mic + velour pads. I'm actually going a bit over my preferred budget, but hey, quality comes at a price.

Thanks bros.

That's not what I call shipped you fucks

i have koss porta pro, hd600, and sony iem (xb90ex). Hd600 is good but it feel clusterphobic and box like soundstage. Good for critical listening and non-fatiguing treble. Best thing compare to athad900x is that hd600 has sub bass rumble which makes it more fun imo compare to ath ad900x bass which has no sub bass but it does have bass nonetheless. Ath ad900x is actually better for music like female, classic, piano, violin and orchestra music. I use hd600 for edm, electronic, and other music + movies. Hd600 has more clamp force but its still comfortable. Koss porta pro are good for under 30 dollars but i think superlux 681 might have been a better value? I use koss porta pro for vr porn lmao. The sony iem are good but I only use it when traveling. Kinda wish i got the k712 instead of the hd600 because the soundstage is so weak cause im used to the ath-ad900x wide soundstage, but i didnt like that akg got bought by Samsung and now the build quality is made in china. At least it has high resale value.

How about you, what other headphones you have?

Attached: 1544779937365.jpg (869x1200, 151K)

user why do you look so cute?

I have been told by a lipstick lesbian I have pretty hands. She turned out to be not nearly as gay as I thought.

>Only degenerates touch animals user.
guess that makes you a degenerate

I am pure virgin anime girl user.

Anyone here have real leather or sheepskin and can tell me if it makes you sweaty like cheap pleather? Real leather or sheepskin? Also is velour more comfy or leather?

Attached: 1544756964619.jpg (4904x1848, 318K)

tranny faggot

Velour is infinitely more COMFY than any other material. Have it on your headband too and it makes a headphone feel like it's not even on your head.

Don't be a mean bully user :( I'm a pure anime girl!

I look forward to the day when you inevitably become a statistic

hi user, can i become a pure anime girl even if i'm a big muscular hairy guy? :(

Just bought Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm Headphones, they gonna come Monday.

Now, I mainly just use it for my PC and my phone. Should I have gotten the 32 Ohm version? Did anyone here ever listen to the 32 Ohm and 80 Ohm version and can tell me if there is a sginificant volume difference? Scouted the entire internet and did not find an acceptable answer.

the 32 ohm beyers sound really shitty

Not really an answer to my question. I want to use them to casually walk around, travel etc with my phone. If the volume is super low on the 80 Ohm, it's also really shitty.

i had the 80ohm ones and while they was loud enough straight from the pc mobo, they improved with a cheap fiio e12. still they sounded waaay too V shaped for my liking, the harsh treble was there but but it wasnt bothering me as much as the super recessed mids and vocals. such a shame, counting that they are the comfiest headphone i ever tried other than well built and nice looking. the bass and soundstage are good too.

What's the cheapest amps I should buy for my phone if I know nothing about amps? I don't care about quality as much as about volume. I don't really have much money right now so just throw me a guide for cheapness. Is there even a amp guide?

Thinking about getting an amp for my PC too. Just some cheap shit to test the waters as I have never owned one.

i suggest to wait for the headphones to arrive then decide for yourself if you need an amp. dont waste money if you dont need to.

>even if i'm a big muscular hairy guy
nononono only headphone anime girls allowed.
poopy face.

damn i know that much time in the gym was a mistake, i will never be an anime girl headphone model :(

OP pic is true perfection user. Ditch the gym and become her.

but i cant, i'm too masculine :( , i'm gonna buy beyers and punish myself with treble.

Fuck yeah, DT 990 masterrace

Fuck off larpers

>waiting for my 1990 to arrive

doesn't click too often, even on usb
in fact I'd go as far as to say you must be a sperg to be annoyed by it

Oi, fuck you too buddy. Are bluetooth headphones a meme?
