That's what you get for not keeping it organized from the start.

maybe if file systems got rid of directories and replaced them with tags this wouldn't be a problem

I know you are posting this ironically, but just imagine, somewhere in the world there is a person actually thinking and believing this

>20 years
Jeeze, I've got it easy.

Please tell more.

What happened?

I just make a year folder and then a month folder and drop all my crap for the month in there and then when I am bored I go through the old times.

If anyone has ideas on being an efficient digital hoarder I'd like to hear it. I've left my desktop dead for half a year now because if I fix it I'm just gonna go back to hoarding all day.

yea, a lot has changed going through the years of these files cuz this thread reminded me of my archives.
after 2011 shit is so boring I don't even save images.

what did you expect?

the good old days

So is anyone going to offer a file organizing software or solution for those of us who have gigantic hordes of pics?

H Y D R U S

stay on top of being organized. I have tons of shit and deliberately going out of my way to not just put everything into a "sort it later" folder helps a shit ton.

>tfw both my main hard drive AND backup hard drive failed last night, and I've lost the majority of the files I've kept for the last 20 years

lesson learned: keep an offsite backup
please don't be like me, Jow Forums

we need a thing like github where other people can view and download stuff and make suggestions to add/move/remove/rename things.

when i get around to getting a personal server i'm going to host a gitlab instance with all my memes and ebooks on it and try to evolve the software into something specifically for this unless someone beats me to it.

train a neural network

Is there really no automated file organization? I download a shitton of H and keep it all in a semi-organized downloads folder (Deluge labels plugin with folder generation by author) for consumption before moving them to an equally organized archives drive, but say when I want to enjoy some cute'n'funny I have to know where to look for them, when I want some gfd I have to know which authors have published some. Plain impractical.

:)

Quit saving useless crap. My personal files I store are less than 1 gb.

I don't know of any, and haven't really looked for one since I access my files from multiple operating systems.
In the scenario you've given, I would sort by the focus genre ignoring any crossover, and append the author at the end of the filename. Then if I wanted to find everything made by a certain author I could just use the searchbar.

Some people like to have files on hand lest they vanish in the void of time. Granted it's unhealthy to be a (digital) hoarder, but if there was an automated solution to take organization off your mind, I'd rather that than quit all together.

I've tried sorting by main genre and it's alright for the ones with a single major theme, but it really gets messy when there're multiple major themes.

Also, it'd be nice to be able to filter for minor themes as well. It's just so difficult when you have a broad spectrum of fetishes and over a terabyte of H-manga downloaded. Tags are certainly the way to go, as evidenced by the best H websites, but they need to be applied automatically rather than per-user.

Attached: 553.jpg (480x877, 60K)

Why not both? Just have 8-character strings with a max of 8 strings, 64 bytes per file isn't bad

Hydrus Network

I was 13, I remember the book I was reading waiting for the world to end

I just make firefox prompt me for a filename and give it a half-decent name before saving

I don't see the issue. You can organize the files manually as you do now, and the addition of tags can allow you to browse any section of your directory structure organized by the tag.

You know how Win has the view option "show files in groups (by name/date/type etc)"? It'd work just like that, except with tags instead of just name/date/time.

So what’s bigger, your /b/ folder, or number of files named Untitled.

I know this feel. I'll never organize this mess.

>but it really gets messy when there're multiple major themes.
I know that feel. A filesystem that supports both folders and tags would be nice. It's something that should have been done in the indos7 era.

>lost my 2 oldest Jow Forums folders

it was a sad day when i realized all my pokepuns were gone
now the earliest shit i have is from like 2010

do you also have another folder with 50 more gigs of shit you also need to sort?

Before I migrate to a new (desktop) machine, I go through my files. I sort things out. Consolidate related stuff. Trash stuff I don’t need. Stuff that I can’t quite categorize I just put into a folder labeled “files from [older machine]”
So I’ve got a bunch of. nested folders going back several iterations. The deepest one is labeled “files from IIGS”

macOS

I do this but without the sorting part

I do this. "Files from old computer" just goes into the archive.

Now I won't upload
