i just installed an ips panel on my x220 and I think image retention is happening. What do?

Opinions on the X1 carbon 3rd or 5th gen? Thinking about getting one used.

I have plenty of good old models like x220, x220t, x201, x201s, x60s, r61i, but the weight, abhorrent battery life, and lack of a webcam make them unweildy for business and frequent travel

Bought a T430 for 250 €.
>8 GB RAM
>i7 3520M
>NVIDIA NVS 5400M
>500 GB HDD
>1600x900 display

Did I just get ripped?

what thinkpad laptop has the best keyboard?

t440p hands down

>muh classic keyboard

x61

>X210 - X200/X201, i5 8250u quadcore

HOW?
Was that a typo?

Can I have that wallpaper without the Thinkpad word on it? It's really nice.

I like the one in my T450, it's very tactile and a bit heavier than the one in my X230.

Is there a 4K thinkpad? the resolution makes it much easier on the eyes dealing with lots of text

All 15 inch models post W530.

Lenovo's site giving 502 errors for anyone else? I'm trying to look up some model and serial #s to see if these X230s have IPS screens because the PDFs are useless.

it's documented in the Wikipedia but is it really possible to do w530 swap with a keyboard 7 row

Is libreboot a meme or should I fuck with my thinkpad BIOS

Should I order a T480 or wait for a possible refresh? Has anybody heard anything about that?

Attached: timonponder.jpg (228x251, 8K)

It's gonna be Whiskey Lake, which doesn't even have an 8650U successor. The T480 can't handle the thermal requirements to maintain its already high 3.9GHz all core boost, and the Whiskey Lake has a 100MHz lower base clock but boosts to 4.6 single core (8650U does 4.2GHz right now).

TL;DR the refresh will give you 400MHz more on single threaded performance and no gains anywhere else because of thermal and TDP limitations. If you want to pay double for that 400MHz only when using single core, get Whiskey Lake.

Otherwise, T480 is a no brainer.

Bluetooth 5.0 is the only meaningful change.

is it worth buying a 2015 x1 carbon ? How long will it last ?

Does Jow Forums love their Thinkpads?

Attached: Cute.jpg (500x406, 44K)

Love my x230
I just spent the last year travelling around the world with it and it's still going strong.

Does everything except gaming at a fast speed

What is the most cost-effective model with HDMI port and i7, buying used of course.

Yes. Sometimes I hug my thinkpads going to sleep.

For the exact same price, there are two Thinkpads I’m looking at:

X200s:
>c2d l9400
>4GB RAM
>160GB HDD
>good condition
>unknown resolution
>might try librebooting it

X140e:
>AMD e1-2500 (last without PSP)
>4GB RAM
>320GB HDD
>excellent condition

Both have ac adapters and I would add an SSD. Which is the better option?

I have one and it runs like a charm.

Can someone tell me why my Thinkpad T430s has a shitty battery life. I seriously play a visual novel for 20 minutes and it dies immediately it doesn't stay on longer than 30 before battery is at 0%.

Should I go for it? Last time I asked some moron here told me you can get it for cheaper at the perks store, so, yeah I can get a free house as well if my dad was Jeff fucking Bezos. Without true stories that you 'totally landed X1 Carbon for 5$', is this A485 a good deal or no?

where the fuck can I find a decently priced thinkpad in England, ebay always seems overpriced

Attached: xcverwr3r3r2dsdf.png (1539x1342, 1.28M)

amerifags always seem to get good deals, why the fuck are there no good deals for britfags

Your battery is worn out. Even the $20 or $30 chineesium-special batteries is a pretty good deal.

Okay cool. thanks any advice for good sites for parts for think pads.

I've always just used ebay, but there may be slightly better deals on aliexpress.

X200s definitely, better performance, not too small, not too big, libreboot.

Not sure about new models so can't speak to it, but the classic models have DisplayPort rather than HDMI. It's essentially HDMI with a different shape to avoid licensing fees. You can buy an inexpensive adapter, just check reviews to make sure you get one that also carries sound as the $3 chinese ones are video only.

Wish I could get it for that price here.
The price here is 1100 USD for the base model.
Go for it, user, do it for me, instead of me.

And if he fucks you over, fuck him over.

He has pretty good feedback, I'd go for it, user.
Unless I go for it before you.

what do you mean, i'm from central europe and got 2 thinkpads off of UK with minimal shipping fee cuz you bastards still didn't leave teh EU.

Is stuff on eBay subject to VAT?
In Canada we have a similar problem, but it is because of shipping costs.

Dunno why but you sound so polite.

I have to choose between a 2015 x1c with an i5 and wqhd display OR a t470 with a i7 6600u inside. Which one is the best/can last longer ?

Attached: 1545306209301m.jpg (647x1024, 84K)

Get the i7 T470. Better CPU and Thunderbolt is going to be huge for future-proofing. If you're not satisfied with the FHD panel it can always be swapped latter.

what did you get? atm ebay doesn't have much, I'm looking for a x200 and there's nothing good

Thanks ! This model is 200$ more expensive though, is it still worth puting more money into it ?

The web site, got it

(also the t470 has 16gb of ram btw vs 8gb for x1c)

IBM should make a ThinkPad with a POWER CPU.

When will thinkpads stop becoming more and more like basedbooks?

It's a meh price. But if it works, is in good condition and you're happy with it, it's not bad.

>>EU prices
I've bought better for cheaper in EU...

Previous thread is wrong. Learn to OP.

Where do you live?

Not inside EU.

i did the x230 keyboard mod with x220 palmrest, but now the clickpad "click" is really stiff, janky and loud (after i insert it into the x230).

any idea how to fix this?
the clickpad seems to work okay, if i take it out of the laptop or use it with the x230 palmrest

Can someone pls post a picture of a ThinkPad in panties?

Attached: 1540780706714.jpg (529x502, 44K)

T440 or t520 if i want to install loonix mint. Thanks. Also can i trust ebay on theae matters?

Which current gen Thinkpads have battery upgrades available?

A used 2700U for that price would be, otherwise you *can* actually get a brand new one for 600, 2500U that is.
Instead of spending months finding some ebin deals, just get something that works for you and is currently available for cheaper than the rest.

Shoudn't all? They are just internal, but user serviceable. If you need extra juice on the go, USB-C powerbank.

my t430 is turning off when I plug the power cable in. Then resets the time. What the fuck is happening?

I'm talking about the ability to add a bigger battery, without having to carry a power bank everywhere.

My T480s arrived yesterday. When can I expect my membership card?

Attached: 1448896571913.jpg (600x847, 94K)

It's digital now. If you can post here, it's already active.
Congrats user!

Oh wow! Thanks!

I bought an ex-corporate T450s for £200 the other day. It's cool and is in pretty good condition but it has a shitty TN 1600x900 panel so I want to look into upgrading it. I've heard there's problems with brightness in windblows and some sort of BIOS whitelist so you have to get the right part number or it won't work.

What is the best way to get a decent 1080x1920 IPS panel that will work with brightness settings. I searched around a bit and I looked at a list of compatible parts and I found this eBay listing for what looks like the right part. Is it legit and can I just swap out my panel for this one?

ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-REPLACEMENT-14-0-LAPTOP-LED-FHD-DISPLAY-SCREEN-FOR-IBM-LENOVO-FRU-04X5916/271942454446

I messaged the seller and he said that he can't guarantee that it will work due to different models and such and he said that they ship "AU Optronics part B140HAN01.3" and "Lenovo FRU 04X5255" panels. I know that the 04X5255 panel is on the whitelist but I didn't see the AU Optronics part on the list so will that work as well?

>B140HAN01.3
That's a good screen. My T440p has one. Also Lenovo FRU, so you won't have issues with brightness control.
No idea about T450s though, if people say it fits, it fits. I don't know though.

Is there more to lincuck laptop power saving than just runnning tlp and powertop?

1.3 is glossy though. Find a 1.2. Just make sure it's a AUO panel with a Lenovo FRU part number to avoid fuckery.

>Finish: Matte Anti-Glare
Interesting, considering Lenovo itself lists 04X5255 as B140HAN01.3. Picture is from Lenovo parts lookup.
If you're okay with non-matte screens, I guess go for it. Seems a reasonable seller and the numbers check out.

Attached: 15.jpg (1024x768, 119K)

>1.3 is glossy though
There seem to be both glossy and anti-glare 1.3 screens though

What do you guys think about the Thinkpad L380? One of the newer ones. I'd run Debian on it. Worse or better than old Thinkpads?

Do any of you browse kijiji? Have a thonker to trade but don’t know if it’s worth bothering to post. On a side note, someone thinks 175CAD for a t60 is a fair selling price.

Alright. I'm pulling the trigger and getting the base configuration with the external 72 Whr battery. I'm going to get the upgraded Nvidia graphics and display (non touch). I plan on upgrading the RAM myself to 16 GB, and putting in a 1 TB SSD later on. What go you think? Thanks, Anons!

my t440p comes in today. i'm literally shaking

My 1.3 is matte.

Interesting, the same config, new from local retail is €700 here.

Just take deep breaths. You don't want to die of an heart attack before it arrives.

olo what's this??

Attached: file.png (566x366, 163K)

From someone in the same boat but with less models. Would it be stupid to sell the thinkpads and buy something new with a good monitor but not great processor laptop sub $400?

I was thinking about buying a ThinkPad just to connect to my home pc through TeamViewer
Is it a good idea?

yes

no

How noticeable is the difference between the CPUs of an X230? I wouldn't be doing any real heavy lifting with it; anyone have one with the i5-3320 bottom-end processor?

I ended up getting a t450 with the backlit keyboard and 8gb of ram for £170, slapped a 500gb SSD in for £60 and added 4gb of spare ram so it's pretty good now, so it depends on what you're using it for and what your budget is?

Also, my current machine has a Turion II dual-core so even the lowest i5 will be an improvement over that. Just interested in comparisons between the Intels themselves.
