my first computer was an imac g3, so i used mac for a while, but i absolutely cannot return to it. it's straight up painful to use. i can use linux. i can use windows. mac i cannot stand.

everything feels inconvenient to do, and there's pretty much zero ability to change anything to your liking. (i know windows isn't much better on this front, though) and that dock just sucks. it's miserable to use. but really what irritates me most if how it feels like it's trying to baby you, like just let me screw with what i want to screw with. maybe they're not completely valid arguments; but it just feels nasty to use, so i don't use it.

having spent some time with NeXTSTEP, macOS isn't that bad
but it's weird in ways that anyone who's spent most of their time using Windows (or hell, oldschool pre-X Mac OS) would be annoyed with

I like MacOS. With Bash and Homebrew I can get a lot more done than with Windows.

Disable the dock, then. What do you need to change? You can change the shell if you want. I don't see how it babies you, but maybe you are using the GUI options, and GUIs always baby you on every system.

it's been working perfect in wine for me; despite wine saying it shouldn't. i only use photoshop and illutrator though; so maybe other stuff doesn't work.

It is made with the only purpose of being inconvenient to switch from. Remember how every sane UI has window control buttons on the right side but mac on the left? It's not just those buttons, everything is made to be different. And it lacks basic features like even taskbar. Even zip archives made on macs are fucked up and can't be operated normally on other OS. And mac's filesystem is a special snowflake garbage inferior to any other alternative and it doesn't even support other filesystems because they want to lock you into only using apple garbage. You can literally pick any component and it will be inferior to alternatives but also incompatible.

Mac OS isn't even remotely comparable to Linux. All the command line tools ship out of date or they're non-existent. The file systems (HFS+ and APFS) are both buggy horseshit, and APFS won't even support trimming on some SSDs. Mac OS makes you get software either from a fucking app store that's locked down, or it makes you hunt for shit online like on Windows. Meanwhile Linux distros have centralized repositories for software where 99% of the shit you'll ever need is located. The Mac OS equivalent is a hacked together third party piece of shit called Homebrew. Try calling Applel support when Homebrew fucks something up, nigger. The fruity toy company will void your warranty. LMAO

Why is it always Winfags that have a massive problem with macOS. I started using OS X after 10 years as a Linux user, and I almost immediately loved it (a UNIX with an actual working DE instead of buggy Gnome or KDE or Xfce). A couple of things were awkward in the beginning because it's more similar to FreeBSD than to Linux, for example coreutils have slightly different flags and kernel extensions rather than kernel modules etc, but being a POSIX system it's not really that dissimilar.

One of the things I really like about macOS is that all macOS applications run in separate sandboxed jail-like environments, and applications need to specify their system dependencies, which means that I can get a fine-grained access control list for applications. This makes me feel that I'm a lot more in control over my system than I do when I'm using Linux (which I still do for work).

As someone who also had to use Mac Os while learning audio engineering I used to be of the same opinion.

But that was just a lack of understanding, once I learned the niggly little bits it was simply just another system.

One thing I will say though is that to me it seems really fucking unstable. It's crashed so many times its cemented a good habit of constantly saving. But Jesus that spin wheelnigger is a nightmare that's consumed so much time and effort.
