Dude your probably better off with a tablet. Trust me i own both, its much easier to get suit on the tablet to display properly

Most e-readers can open .pdf, but it kinda sucks. Zooming and scrolling takes ages because the screen has to refresh constantly. If you do get an e-reader get a one with a bigger screen and high res.

Get a tablet instead of an E-Reader.
I fell for the meme, and it's a waste of 300$, that i could have used to buy a decent high end tablet.
As for filetypes, PDF support are bad on e-reader, not only because of the refresh rate, but most of these e-readers have weak CPU, that can't render the PDF fast enough.
So stick to epub or CBZ.

But does it feel better to read on compared to an E-reader (minus the slow refreshing)?

Get an e-reader if you actually read books, the experience is unparalleled. If you're a manchild who tries to read A4 sized textbooks on a A5 sized e-reader screen you're beyond help and should get a tablet.

E-Reader is superior to tablets but only if you read books, manga is ok though

Depends on what you read.
Novels that's all text, will feel like reading a newspaper.
But you can get the same effect from using a decent tablet with good app.

Like I posted in the OP, Manga and comics

What's your budget?

Doesn't really matter but preferably under €150

It was always strange to me that people get e-readers and use them for porn. Not sure why, it just seemed like a silly concept to me. I've always been under the assumption that people don't pay for porn or ways to acquire it.

Get a cheap android tablet then.
>Only install FOSS apps
>Install KISS/Nova luncher
>Install greenify + blockada
Must importantly NEVER install social media related apps.

Fapping in the bathroom is less messier.

Aren't E-reader screens better to look at/less eye strain for longer periods?

That's what they claim, but in reality I never found any difference.
In fact reading on the tablet was more comfortable because I could adjust the color temperature.
The adjustable font size is what make it less hurtful to the eyes, I guess.
Because people would download PDF when using a tablet and use mobi/epub when reading on an e-reader, and since not many people have 20/20 vision, the e-reader with it's default font size adjustment make them think e-readers are better for the eye.
As for the glare/light argument, you shouldn't read in the dark in the first, and if you do, you should use some filter if you use a tablet.

So tablets are really the best way to digitally read stuff?

Yes, in most cases.

No, the guy you're talking to is fucking retarded. A backlit screen is nothing like a frontlit e-Ink display. Go check one out yourself instead of relying on some uninformed dumbass on Jow Forums.

No.
t. never read something on an e-ink display

By far

This. An e-ink display is crucial for reducing eye-strain. Most e-readers are too weak to handle pdf's and images in an efficient way. I know there's a manga edition of the paperwhite, but that's exclusive to nippland. In a couple of years some madman will probably stick an e-ink display on a real tablet. Waiting for that is probably your best bet.

.cbz and .cbr are the more common fi

>Get a tablet instead of an E-Reader

This guy is a retard, tablet are a pain for your eyes in the long term, doesn't matter if it's just text or comics, and nobody should spend this amount of money on an ereader. I got a Kobo Aura H2O v2 for €149, it has blue light filter and it's 6.8", worth it

*common files

My e-reader is repurposed to display weather info.

How's the h20 handling pdf's? I got the Clara HD. Really happy with it, but formats outside of epub, etc. makes it grind to a halt.

Get an android ereader

>blue light filter
I can't believe the idiotic people in this thread.
E-Ink doesn't emit light, there can be no "filter".
The backlight is warmer that's all.

Don't listen to that dumbass. I switched to e-ink and it's much better than digitally reading books or manga.

hentai my dude
boys watch porn, men read lewd doujinishi

PDFs are terrible to use if you need to zoom, otherwise I never had any issue with any filetype

That's the name they use for making the frontlight reddish, you may not like it but that's how they call it and for this reason that's how I'm gonna call it too

this. But what works best for it?

My Likebook displays PDF just fine, even with the stock reader. Your ereaders are just botnet that intentionally makes PDF shitty so you'll buy books from their online stores instead.

Let me rephrase the question than. What is the best display device for reading manga and comics?

Manga: eink >7"
Gaijin capeshit: tablet

Nice. I have an unused Kobo Aura One. Maybe I look into something similar.

The madlads at Lenovo are already putting e-ink displays on their laptops. I forget what model it is, but one of their 2-in-1's has an e-ink displays in place of a keyboard

>If you're a manchild who tries to read A4 sized textbooks on a A5 sized e-reader screen you're beyond help and should get a tablet.
*A4 ereader

If you read real books an e-ink display is the best. If you're looking at chinese cartoon garbage then get a tablet.

eink's best for that too, most are b&w and look great on eink

Reminder to use DjVu instead of PDF with E-reader.

Let's say I have decided to get a 10" Android tablet specifically for reading manga, a few Western comics, and reading recpies in kitchen/light YouTube recpies guides. What would be best band for my buck? Looking at Lenovo tab 4 but am willing to look into chinkpads and other suggestions. Don't know much about tablet market but my budget is $150 Max and will be used for manga 95% of time (maybe select textbooks that won't fit on my Kindle daily reader for text) thanks ahead of time!

Mediapad T5

Can't find this for sale anywhere shipping to US. Any recommendations?

Onyx Boox and an Amazon Fire

Neither one of these options fit criteria of running Android and being in $150 range :/

Amazon Fire 10" literally does

also, stop being poor :)

Can I run tachiyomi on it though?
I thought you were locked into using only Amazon approved apps?
Not poor just can't justify spending allot of money on something I am only going to use an hour every day before bed lol

Yes, you can sideload F-Droid and Tachi

I have one from 2013 and it still works, these things are tanks

Plus the Lenovo Tab 4 is only 720p, wtf what year is this?

Nice! That's all I needed to know. Thought Amazon had them on lockdown. Thanks for the help but that will fit the bill just fine this holiday for my son and I to get caught up on our chapters :)

I use an old tf201 (Asus transformer prime) from 2011 and I'm happy with it. Just install an anti blue light app if you don't want to stay up all night

.cbz or .cb7 is the standard. It's basically a renamed .zip or .7z file.

What about Mediapad M3/5

An e-paper tablet with Android is the best because you can browse hentai in Firefox or whatever app you use. So need to download it and have it be a deliberate planned activity, you can just find doujins on whim.
Onyx makes e-paper tablets with Android 6.0.1, and there's other ones too but I've never used them.

Talk a little more about your setup, user. What e-reader is this? The case is also cool.

pdf is the worst filetype

epub and mobi are the best. i usually choose epub

Those are not comic filetypes read the post

i read mango as epub

PDF's the best

I'm really happy that there are so many beautiful kinds of women all over the world and for all of eternity.
At least there's that.

What e-reader and what are you using as a client?
I'm interested in how you've set this up.
Using H@H, downloading zips? Whatcha doing?a

Is this a H@H passthrough? Or have you just set sadpanda to prefer your own H@H server, that happens to be local?

This. got an amazon fire 8 HD for like 50$ bc winter sales. I could care less about Amazon and Alexa knowing what books I'm reading, and I could probs put a custom rom on it.

>keyboard
wat.

It's a clamshell device like a laptop but with two displays instead of a display and a keyboard+trackpad

I have a shitload of storage and bandwidth but play video games.

I wish I knew why H@H required you to maintain uptime for hours instead of being able to handle peers dropping in and out.
I want to contribute to the network but can only guarantee 80% uptime at best. I'm going to have 10 minute sessions where I want no latency fuckery.

>he doesn't have a server

>Downtime
Nigga what?
This is an 8yo Mac Mini with gigabit ethernet, what's your excuse?

Attached: Screen Shot 2018-12-27 at 9.11.18 pm.png (490x76, 17K)

this

Pretty sure by "uptime" he's talking about H@H running, not his computer. He kills H@H when he wants to fully utilize his shitty Internet connection himself

Yes, I thought this was obvious by the fact that my computer still needs to be on if I'm playing video games.
I don't know what else to call it" network uptime" "network availability"?

>shitty
it's gigabit, but it's still going to have an impact on realtime shit if I have thousands of P2P connections opened with transfers.

You've got a Gb connection and are still bothering with that? Dude just throttle H@H. If it doesn't have settings for it you can always control it through your router with QoS.

Not everyone has a gigabit connection.
But even if they did it should still be able to handle peer changes in less than multiple hours.

You forgot DjVu.
It was designed for the e-readers.

It's Node.JS server phrasing the e-reader requests for sadpanda galleries, and pre-load the next image(s).
I want to improve it by using the sharp libray to resize the image, convert it PNG-8.

啊,你会说中文吗

Clever, best of luck!

is that I Am a Hero?

Not op but it's GYO

so you actually care to some degree?

Anyone have any experience with Bookeen Cybook Muse HD, it looks good enough to my eyes.
Don't really care about buying books so the french store doesn't bother me

That's such a fucking half baked implementation. What where they thinking?

just get android tablet

Yep. I've been using a Galaxy Tab S to read manga for years. Prior to that I used a Kindle DX, and while it looked better for most manga, color pages being forced to grayscale was a huge bummer, and more importantly converting manga to display correctly was a massive hassle. The DX was pretty much the last full-size e-ink device, and I wouldn't consider using the tiny screen on my Nook for manga at all. Mostly because double-pages would be shrunk enough that you couldn't read them.

>converting manga to display correctly
what do you mean?

They have fullsize ereaders now, user ...

If you want your manga to not look like shit you need to convert it to the native resolution and grayscale depth of the e-ink reader, then pack it as a cbz so it can actually read it. The Kindle didn't support subdirectories in a cbz for example, so even if you were willing to tolerate its shitty internal conversion, it wouldn't work for a lot of archives as-is. There were lots of projects like this (e.g. Kindle Comic Converter) and I went as far as writing my own because of how fucked up the packaging standards were in the scanlation scene it took a lot of effort to automate the process.

Such as?

Onyx Boox Note (various versions) and Likebook Mimas (upcoming)

What I didn't like is that they're not actually 300dpi, so sticking with the smaller 7.8" reader for now
