When people walk down the street watching youtube, yes it is

I'm sure someone would classify it to be such, it's good money.

But realistically, consider what people would do otherwise - it's the same shit, they'd still read newspapers to find out how many balls adult men managed to kick/carry across a field without being stopped by other adult men in a game.

it's called internet addiction OP

It's a information and stimuli addiction not specifically a phone.

Yep. When people would risk their safety by holding it in their hands while driving because they can't get away is when there is a problem.

Soon

Maybe not the phone itself but the contents of the phone can be highly addictive.
Instant messaging, social media, other media content etc.
Apps are often by design addictive, competing over your attention to keep your eyes on them as long as possible.

It can't be an illness, because there's no detrimental effect on your health. (((Psychologists))) should be thrown out of helicopters.

ill·ness

dis·ease

>a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.
It's a disease, which makes it an illness.

>Originally debated as a “real thing,” it wassatirically theorized as a disorder in 1995 by Dr. Ivan Goldberg, M.D.who compared its original model to pathological gambling. Since this hoax of sorts, the disorder has rapidly gained ground and has been given serious attention from many researchers, mental health counselors, and doctors as a truly debilitating disorder.
Literally BS

>a satirical joke can't develop into a legitimate problem

You can't be addicted to the Internet, because it's not a drug.

I wouldn't say so. As long as you vary things that you do on it a lot and they're actually enjoyable, the only thing you're harming is your eyes, really. Even that can be avoided with exercises. Sitting on social media waiting for virtual blowjobs is bad, however. You're harming others as you do it as well.

I don't think it's phones themselves that are the addiction but the constant connection they provide.

Stop breathing. You're addicted to air.

No. It's not.

Actually, let me amend ...
It's not an addiction until some dumb fuck pays a retarded amount of money for someone like me to come up with a treatment plan to 'cure' their kid of what basically amounts to the current generation's version of having an active social life.

Holy shit I never looked at it that way

when 2 ppl sitting cross each other on a dinner table and instead of talking, they look at their phone.

this will elad to the end of our race.
