Since NBN is basically taxed to help them build out the network to people don't don't have it yet, the cost of $90 (TPG) isn't insane, but it's definitely more expensive.

Compare this to Telstra 4 years ago though. Their Co-Ax network used to cost $130 a month for 120/3.25 and a 500GB download limit.

So on average, things are cheaper, but it really does depend. I'd also suggest that you look at average US prices. In areas with competition, prices are reasonable, even good for 300mbps, but as soon as a provider has a monopoly, the prices fucking skyrocket and the speed drops. Worse, they fuck with their network to "manage" it (read, they block torrents).

Literally every one of the ISPs is using DNS blocking to implement this restriction. That means you can simply add the locations to your host file and it will bypass the filter.

I run my own DNS server, so I've got all of the sites I want cached, and just update off the upstream provider whenever I want to access the sites.

It's completely ineffective for anyone who has any idea what they're doing.
