I picked up some old timey ransomware I think two years ago on a shit laptop I was mucking about with. Webcam turned on and that old familiar text popped up saying they know where I am and who I am and send money and blah blah blah. I was shocked that the webcam actually worked, I couldn't get it to.

It had to have been at least 15 years ago.. I used to download a lot of shady porn from P2P sources and infect my computer pretty regularly.

about one year ago, TNT team makes trojans/fucks with permissions and will break your system under certain circumstances. rdp was ctivated all of the sudden and I found a hidden folder on desktop, which I didn't put there.

lost nothing afaik, they left me alone. but really made me change some of my behaviours.

avoiding them form now on. they can keep their trash.

Last week.
I had to take a day off from work.

21 years ago. It was PE.Marburg. I played with it until I got bored, then deleted it.

A few months ago. Funny story. I decided I wanted to install windows because I couldn't get a new game I wanted to play to work on Debian. I did some research and saw a post naming a program that would activate windows 10 no issues (forget the name OKSactivator or some shit).

I google the program name and surprisingly the first result is "OKSactivator.com" and it's just a single page saying "download and run this to get windows for free". I had to disable the built-in protection windows has now but I finally get it to run. Almost instantly Internet Explorer windows start popping up all over the screen playing ads. Never get why viruses aren't more subtle.

I reformatted and just never activated windows 10 since it actually doesn't change much.

Before 5 months
A Trojan hocked up on my windefender and start deleting installed programs
Shit taken 3 days to kill it

>I was shocked that the webcam actually worked, I couldn't get it to.
HAHAHAHAAHA.
thanks for the laugh my man

Like 2005 or something. Some ransomware that was easily removed in safemode.

I can't quite remember. I've used UNIX(-like) shit for years, I don't know if that counts as a virus.
In any case, just because you don't notice anything it doesn't mean that you have no viruses in your system, the worse ones are probably symptomless.

>not using Rearm

>In any case, just because you don't notice anything it doesn't mean that you have no viruses in your system, the worse ones are probably symptomless.

Yeah, I'm thinking this is the case nowadays as well. Aside from ransomware where they encrypt your system and directly ask you for money I figure that most viruses nowadays work silently in the background trying to collect as many passwords and bits of personal information as possible and sending it off to a server somewhere.

>trying to collect as many passwords and bits of personal information as possible and sending it off to a server somewhere.
I was thinking more like mining shitcoins but not hogging the CPU, maybe even smart enough to not raise fan speed too much on laptops, that'd be pretty cool.

viruses, the windblows meme that never dies and

I run Macs and Linux machines. So, never.

Never, because I'm not a fucking retard.

>i have security through obscurity
>this makes me l33t

1998, I got hit by Sub-seven. Little shithead popped up a terminal and started shit talking me.

I caught a cold a few weeks ago. Damn holiday season.

The last time I used windows

Was a pain in my ass, too, because then I stopped what I was doing and devoted hours to figuring out how those bastards got the webcam to turn on.

Why does a virus resemble a sci-fi robot?

Man id just give them my address. Would be more fun than trying obscenities

Never (as far as I know). Using common sense and virustotal you're pretty secure.

One of my pcs had the malicious CCleaner copy on it. Reformated that pc and then purged CCleaner from all my other computers using priform shit again. Anti virus wouldn't have caught it.

2006-2007ish? downloaded plugin for after effects from torrents, well it fubar'd system and my dad had to take pc to repair cause i didnt have windows cd. i remeber that before clicking install i hesitated for a while and wondered what could go wrong but then decided yolo

A long ass time ago, I think it must have been 2005. I forget the name, it began with an A, like Apophis or something. It was a pain to remove.

>security through obscurity
You clearly have no idea what that term means.

Based Sean Connery

using a less popular operating system is exactly that
But not because the operating system is "obscure". You are the retarded one here

8 years ago when I got my first Windows 7 PC and it got hit by a Java applet drive by with one of those fake Windows defender viruses.

I'm guessing pic related was satirical?

I'll tell you the story of the cutest virus I've ever had:

A couple months ago I was "acquiring" music production software, and one of the keygens did something weird to my PC. I noticed almost immediately.

Everything was running slower and task manager would NOT open, clearly I had some sort of virus. But Windows Defender and Malwarebytes found nothing.

I re-enabled task manager in the registry and was quickly able to figure out what happened. CPU and GPU usage were both super high and there was a virtual machine that I never installed running, obviously doing some mining or something.

Getting rid of it was as easy as nuking the program and uninstalling it, but I thought it was cute. It managed to bypass any sort of antivirus program, at least.

lol retarded nigger

Since I started using Linux, so years

Why did God create viruses?

I'm not an idiot, so I don't get computer viruses at all.

My immune system is also very strong. I get sick maybe once or twice every other year or so.

Not sure if it was actually a virus or just "malware" but 8 years ago. Now I download things I pay for, and don't break the law so I don't have to worry about that, and I don't get viruses.

You ain't fooling me OP, I know these niggas from Jimmy Neutron

Never. Vista and 8.1, maybe computers are just safer from non-vendor botnet.

Had the flu a few weeks ago. Worst 10 days of my life. Fever dreams, pain, dizziness and being short of breath - fuck all of that.

How can you tell when your computer has a virus, trojan, rootkit, etc.? I know you can check simple stuff like CPU and disk usage or task manager and stuff but there are also ways of hiding running programs from task manager, or injecting malware into a running program/service.

You run a full scan your computer which will take awhile. If you're using windows defender should be running and updated.
Just in case you have updates disabled.

I don't know about other software.

The Monkey virus from a sketchy copy of The Incredible Machine.

So this is what windows users on Jow Forums mean when they say that they are busy being productive

I am the virus

Whenever I download pirated programs.
