I use the numpad in solidworks because that's mainly mouse controlled. I don't have to move my hand as far and I can maintain the same general hand shape instead of reaching all the way over to the row of numbers. Plus it's easier because I'm not stabbing at a long row, instead it's a nice grid shape. I can quickly do anything I want without having to take my left hand off my dick. I actually do work on my computer, so I have a real use for it.

I got a tenkeyless and I missed the numpad so I got an addon numpad. I use it for selecting images to upload, numeric filenames are easier to punch in with a numpad.

I use it for calculating and i also map emulator buttons there typically so the arrow keys are on the left like they are on a controller
