Optical media

Tape.
No, seriously.

Actually good headphones. Even normies are wising up to the fact that beats aren't any better than a $75 pair of MDR's and are outclassed in every way by comparably priced sennheisers. If sony, sennheiser, or even AKG or Bose make a stylish set of cans, its all over

NiCd batteries

>consumers are getting wise to marketing
I really wish this were the case but you must realize how ridiculous that sounds. We've had many decades now of foolish consumers bending over to marketing. I don't see that changing without the human race going through a mass sterilization project for stupid people.

It was never gone, you dumb dumb.

I was looking this up the other day for long term back up for media lol

There is nothing better than tapes.
I think facebook or some other of the big companies uses blurays, i cant remember why and too lazy to look it up rn.
But i think it was easier to search through blurays than through tapes or something and "only" 50 years backup were more than enough

Piano rolls

I was looking to back up a load of media, not accessed that much but still want to keep hold of it.
Best media seemed to be tape, bluray was an alternative, but tapes seemed to be the better option for durability and cost.

Physical knobs as an actual control interface.

Spring-buckle capacitive switches.

(Also, tape storage.)

God, I hope not.

I'm happy with my hako trues and topre switches (currently enjoying the former more). We don't need buckling springs again.

>We don't need buckling springs again.
Yes, yes we do user. :^|

This, I hope.

Dial-Up Modems, because Hipsters.

Google stores everything on tape.
So yeah apparently it's the best long term backup media.

Windows 9x pastiche

yeah, right. Hipsters would never let slow internet get in the way of their nutflix binge watch sessions.
>actual american dial up user.

real hipsters would just add a speaker you place on a router that played dialup noises whenever your phone/laptop/etc joins the home wifi network or some other smarthome crap

now I totally see that.
"you can get the dial-up nostalgia without the slow dial-up speeds broooooo"
Where did we go wrong?

>mass sterilization project for stupid people
You have no idea how much I wish this would happen

Tape is good you scumbag.

Blackberry-style physical keyboards and mini trackballs, people will realize that they can't actually do many productive things with only a touch interface

Tape never stopped being the king for mass archival storage, solid-state is impractical for archiving that much data

Too late

Phones with physical keyboards (slide)

you'd be surprised ala-le-red-screaming-wojak.gif when you realize you are part of it.

Radio

Tape will continue to be the backup media of choice for the foreseeable future. Nothing beats it in terms of cost/capacity/longevity.

No chance. There's not a single modern web page that would load in a reasonable time on dialup.

not 4:3 so much but non-16:9 aspect ratios that are far superior like 21:9 and 16:10 and 5:4 are all making a very welcome comeback.

The headphone jack, because people want it back on their fucking phones, and there was never anything wrong with it in the first place.

Since they have been currently replaced by dongles, it is probably going to be held hostage as a premium feature.

How can it make a comeback if it never died?

Headphone jacks were a premium feature in 2005. Come 2019 and it'll become a premium feature once more, reserved only for high end flagship devices.

Flat design will die in favor of the opposite

>all icons become massively 3d
I'm ok with this actually.

they already made a comeback.

this.

Tape is garbage, it's only kept alive by businesses who started using it before hard drives got so cheap and dense. No one would ever use tape as backup in a new system.

yes we do, typing this on my model m

A kickstarter for a CRT with HDMI

Even the 5$ digital to analogue video adapters have only 0.2ms lag now

All the smash and csgo and fortnite kids will want it if they brand it right. I'm sure there is some chink factory that can still make them if campaign succeeds massively

But they do retard every bank in the world uses tape you can get a 15tb tape

Pretty sure it's illegal to manufacture or sell new CRTs in the US thanks to environmental regulations. Maybe if you could prove a dire need for said technology in a specific industry...

I'd be okay with this, if it's for the greater good.

Attached: snek.gif (400x480, 443K)

What environmental regs to do with despising them? In operation they don't use much more than a LCD people just look at the power specs on back and think they use that all the time that's just on turning them on and creating a static charge for the chamber they don't pump that much power in 247

With disposing of them I mean

They take up a lot of space in landfills and they do use a lot more power than a typical LCD, not sure why you think otherwise. They outlaw toilets for using 10% too much water and lightbulbs for being 0.1% less energy efficient than an alternative. Don't question the stupidity of environmental laws.

>They outlaw toilets for using 10% too much water and lightbulbs for being 0.1% less energy efficient than an alternative. Don't question the stupidity of environmental laws.
*tips retarded anti-environmental propaganda*
M'smoker

You are aware that they are hollow they might have some gass or metal in them that's bad thou

A HDR TV uses more power than a early 2000 era 19inch CRT in operation

Maybe some old tube TV from the late 80s is bad thou but that's not what you would build

>Don't question the stupidity of environmental laws
Literally the only thing that stopped the west from looking like Mumbai or Shenzhen.

>
>Dial-Up Modems, because Hipsters.
For dial-up modems you'll also need analog landlines.

Do you even know what a boomer is?

philips.com.sg/c-p/109B65_05/48-cm-19-inch-real-flat-uxga/specifications

I use this CRT its 70wats

Its true older CRT use 100+ wats and you can get LCD that use 20-30wats the reality is the nice good picture LCDs we use today use more like 60wats

If you was building a CRT today you could easily make it use the same power as any of the HDR LCDs at around 60ish wats

Flip phones are still around

>A HDR TV uses more power than a early 2000 era 19inch CRT in operation
A 19" HDR panel uses nowhere near as much power as a 19" CRT. An early 00s 19" CRT uses roughly the same power as a 43" contemporary HDR panel (50-100w).

>bank
Banks still willingly use COBOL because they don't want to upgrade. Obscure? Sure but not sustainable. Who the fuck is going for a computer science degree to be a COBOL dev in 2018+1

Why would you want to use a crt? It's inferior in all respects.

Yes it does my 2005 era 19inch CRT uses 70wats go look up how much power hrd LCDs use its like 50-60wats

Obviously my CRT is a exception and yes finding super old CRTs will use power but if you building one today you can use the best power design from the end of the era or even new methods

You could easily make one just as effienct as a HDR TV

A Boomer is someone born during the Baby Boom that happened at the end of World War 2. Unrelated, but there was also a character in the original Battlestar Galactica named Boomer.

24inch even non HDR LCDs can use 60wats like syncmasters

Cobol is OK. Don't you remember "if it isn't broken, don't fix it"? Cobol isn't broken, you brainlets are just too lazy to learn it.

Kickstarter specialises in retarded projects not saying its a good use of time .. Personally I think there are enough CRT in the world for people who want them by the time they all run out we will have new technology

But threads asking what's likely I think HDMI crt is likely to happen

>if its not broken, don't fix it
Peak Boomer - why innovate when what we have is fine? Surely COBOL is the best! Nothing better could come, COBOL is fine!

Hopefully carbureted big block V8s.

16:10 will eradicate 16:9 in 2019. I'm sitting here with this 12 year old HP w1907 1440x900 monitor that I have running at 85hz in that immaculate golden aspect ratio.

You aware of any 16:10 panels that can do 100 or 200+ hz maybe any panel can do it with new controller box? I have a nice apple 16:10 frame but the panel is shit I want to upgrade it's internals

They don't. They call anyone above the age of 30 a boomer.
