Protip: rename the files from *.opus to *.ogg and voila, they can and will play on effectively anything that plays audio files today.
Not being able to read the opus container is no excuse for not being able to listen to Opus files.

My smart TV doesn't recognize .opus as an audio file, tried renaming it to .ogg and it does recognize it as an audio file but can't play it. Tried some vorbis audio and it can't play that either, no idea why it knows what .ogg if it can't play either of those.

AV1 is potentially the first open video format to beat its competitors. Theora never stood a chance. Neither did VP8. VP9 could've been good, but then Google just gave up on making a good encoder and nobody else cared enough about it to make an alternative to libvpx.
