After hopping distros for a month I decided to give ubuntu a try. I originally avoided it because I thought it's retarded.
Guess what? It's unironically the best distribution I've tried.
Makes you wonder.

So what's so great about it? systemdicks? GNOME bloat? pulseaudio bloat? the shittiest WM in existence?

Yeah, it really makes me wonder.

Well good for you, not your blog faggot.

There's nothing special about Ubuntu, it's riding on the shoulders of Debian and making trash decisions wherever it goes. That said it's still comfy enough to use; I just installed it last night myself.

I want to switch to Linux but there is this one piece of software that only seems to work with Ubuntu (at least it says it does), how can I remove at least most of the bloat on Ubuntu?

This is the software: shadow.tech/int/applications

I also found this: nicolasguilloux.github.io/blade-shadow-beta/

Should I just switch and go for Arch or another less bloatey distro than Ubuntu?

Mint is better tbqhwy

Guess what: you're wrong

Don't let these assholes make you fall for the __bliat meme__
There's nothing wrong with pre-installed software.
"Muh package count" doesn't affect system performance, and doesn't make Arch a good distro.
>Install Mint and be happy.

just get the minimal version of ubuntu and install your shit yourself, boom, "debloated"

> still thinks distros are relevant
boi ev been using mint since day 0 nver changed the distro, but its now a frankenstein not even recognizeble... whatever i need i can either apt-get or build from source no need to distro hop if i can buill my own, they are all a flavor of debian or arch anyways

Since 18.04 there's a check-box in the installer for "minimal install."
It's pretty comfy desu.

debootstrap and don't install any of the big meta packages. You also get the arch feel of manually partition and editing your fstab and shit.

I'm just going to go with Fedora 29 with KDE

RETARD

Arch and Debian are better.

>how can I remove at least most of the bloat on Ubuntu?
do a minimal install, you have an option during installation
use kde

Teen Linux kids like to pride themselves on using the most unwieldy distros that you have to meet halfway. Ubuntu was one of the first distros to actively promote usability and it shows.

>use ubuntu with stock i3
>memer rice kids ask if I use void, alpine or other meme distros I havent even heard of
rly makes u thingk

stock i3 is shiet, you need at least gaps, rofi and polybar

>It's unironically the best distribution

That's true (as long you don't use the gnome'd version)

Debian is literally Ubuntu without the bloat

Ive recently switched to kubuntu from Arch linux. Nearly everything is better so far, more integrated and clean. Only thing that sucks is compiling shit. you have to install a zillion dev packages in addition to the main one.

gives you an idea of what it really is.
gnu.org

I've been thinking about trying Ubuntu again after some time, but feel disgusted to hear that they ditched unironically the best desktop environment linux ever had and switched back to one of the worst.

I use KUbuntu. Don't really have an issue with it

Distro hopping usually starts and ends with ubuntu/mint

this, ubuntu minimal + i3 is peak comfiness

Ubuntu minimal,not net-install.

>use the gnome'd version
It's the best version.

I use xubuntu with a cinnamon desktop

it does what I want, ricing is for children.

crunchbang++ is literally ubuntu without the bloat

Haven't used it since 8.04 to 10.04. It made linux a lot easier to get install and use for first timers and that should be recognised, but they lost me after their DE attempt

arch is not a minimal distro

nope! just a compositor for easier active window finding.
this

Mint FTW

Kubuntu is pure kino

Why though?
KDE is deprecated by RedHat

why not bunsenlabs

same thing

why the fuck does your kali headless need 2.7 gigs of ram

why the fuck does your ubuntu run with fucking 5gigs idle? are you running trippleKDE?

I just unistalled it. The NVIDIA drivers are shit. Every time i tried to install them from the additional drivers section, they broke the entire system. I'm, now using Solus GNOME. That's the best distro for Desktop.

I'm having a decent enough time with OpenSUSE.
