Niche

Doesn't need more than 4c

Exactly

Gaming

To dab on Intel of course

Because I occasionally need to do numerical experiments and there the scaling is quite important.

I'd say I definitely don't, but today's web browsers will probably happily eat up any number of cores you throw at them when you have dozens of tabs open

I need more than make -j 4

so I can build software faster than make -j5

I need to spend my money on something.

Honest

Name one (1) reason why you need more than 1 core?

Because no modern OS will work smoothly with only 1 core?

Yes it will.

installing gentoo

Virtualization

Which one?

>in b4 some basic as fuck linux distro
I said modern distro, not something tailored to run on aging hardware

Windows 10 runs perfectly fine on 1 core.

EPEEN grows 0.5in per core

Attached: epeen.jpg (189x267, 11K)

I don't need them, I just have them cause I eat a lot of apples.

I have no prove but I seriously doubt that. 1 core at 5ghz?

Windows 10 doesn't even run fine on my quad core. In fact I doubt windows 10 runs fine on any machine at all since It's a bloated piece of shit OS.

Faster compile times.

>use 1 software, everything else freezes and becomes unresponsive
>system updates kick in, everything else freezes
Excellent.

That happens on quad and even 8 core machines.
>In fact I doubt windows 10 runs fine on any machine at all since It's a bloated piece of shit OS.
So having more than one core is of no benefit whatsoever then?
Runs fine on even old Core Solo/PentiumM

>compiling from source (especially with large programs like FF)
>video encoding
>image optimization
>image manipulation with GraphicsMagick
First few things that come to mind.

It runs flawlessly on my aging 4790K and on the 8250U on my tablet too.

I don't *need* more than 4 cores. I *want* more than 4 cores.

I thought I needed more than two cores but I was wrong. Nothing yet that I have used, except for VMware or Vbox even wants to know about more than two cores

I don't need more than 1 stable core which runs on whatever meme technology at 100 GHz and more.
Multicore is cancer and Intel should never have wasted so much time and money on being retarded and instead should have invested and sought outside investments and subvention from governments who would also benefit, including military, into graphene R&D and whatever else. A complete and total bruteforce R&D to break this silicone wall, instead of being the fucking retards they ended up being.

LMFAO
is that a joke?
do you ever see more than one core being used even for games

How many people are actually editing videos? 3 out of 10 thousand?

Modern gaymes are decently multithreaded these days, but single core performance is generally the biggest factor as to how well a processor will run a game.

Exceptionally useful for professional workloads.
Most normie users don't need more than 4 cores, but people who make videos, play games, run VMs, compile code, and any sort of number crunching can benefit from more cores.

i do 3dcg work

Lol you haven't played a video game made in the last 10 years.

actually I play quite a lot of games very intensive games and I rarely see more than two cores ever being used, usually core 0 and core 3 on an i7

There are more than 1 billion active channels on youtube with at least 1 video uploaded to them.

Imagine walking in the forest and seeing her like this.
haha that would be weird if she peed and you keep watching her pee... haha.. that would be weird, right?

imagine being this autistic

Would more cores help you get me the source?

Trips of confusion

Imagine being this attracted to cocks.

My MS-DOS machine can do that

bruh this nigga can't count

Intel needs better shills. Either sell the quad cores for $100 or shut the fuck up

I don't, 2 cores still going strong!

sorry my answer requires more than 4 cores

Parallel compilation and 3d modelling.

>nobody NEEDS that many cores
Fuck off, statist.

Because I can have them faggot. Fuck you gonna do? Limit me?

Faster compling, honestly. `make -j17` is fantastic.

Word+Excel+PowerPoint+Outlook+FF+VisualStudio+Unity+1-7 VMs running Unity seems like a pretty good reason to have lots of cores.

Since I'm somewhat poor atm I need to fuck around with five additional laptops when I need all 8 instances of unity, since my pos i5 4xxxK can't handle more than one vm with unity in addition to the aforementioned shit.

I need 40k for the workstation of my wet naughty dreams :c

Please. I would say 5% of computer users out of my ass, but this is a very interesting question and I wonder how we could answer it.

running a browser and bidjeogame in separate VMs

Doing 3d modeling in blender would benefit since my old cpu is struggling to keep up with medium count faces and not to mention my gpu takes forever to render things. Waiting for zen 2... Eventually...

Only on silicone dogshit.

I really don't, my next computer's only going to have 4 cores (16 threads though)

Parallel computing.

>4 cores 16 threads
Wut

Attached: Wat_5f9cb3_3571602.jpg (560x330, 27K)

POWER9, 4 threads per core. If I went for an 18 or 22-core processor I could get 8 threads per core

What are you going to compute on that thing? It's not like it's compatible with anything even remotely user-friendly

It's just going to be my next desktop. I look forward to transcoding video on it, currently I use a quad-core A8-6500B APU for that

Hi!

I thought it ate RAM and not cores

All those processes run in different threads that potentially run in different CPUs.
When the websites start to use crap like webassembly, the cores will get quite handy.
