>When the external HD dies

Fuck me I just fixed a fucked up screen and now this. I hate my life. Now I gotta shill out a small fortune in a new 4tb hd and I can't afford it right now.

At least it isn't clicking. Well, not that I can hear. Maybe it can be slavaged. It still shows up in the Explorer, but wont load. Maybe I can revive it...

Have you checked the smart stats? Is it still under warranty?

I know this is a very basic and maybe insulting question, but since this is Jow Forums I will go ahead and make the question.
Did you check the SMART?

External? You still can extract it from box, and connect directly to mobo via sata cable. It could be just usb-to-sata issue.

If I format the HD and do nothing, imediatly running a file recovery software, will I lose too much shit?

sorry internet fluctuated

Warranty ended a good while ago. It was only 6 months.

No insults here, I am checking and double checking everything. I got nothing. However, a few moments before the disk went kaput I tries runing the windows HD error checker (the one above defrag tools on the Propreties window) It said it had errors and would attempt to fix them. Then it tried and all went to hell.

I hope it is that, but highly unlikely.

I just downloaded Seagate's diagnosis tool. After runing a quick scan it tells me it failed short DST and asks me to run the more complete scan. I will do so now.

>buying a HDD with a 6 month warranty
Jesus christ
Next time just buy a NAS drive (3 year warranty, will go on sale frequently) and put in a dock

If it's one of those 2.5" WD external drives then the USB port is built into the drive itself, so there is no SATA.

>It was only 6 months.
I assume that is the warranty provided by the seller, not by the manufacturer. Check seagate's site to see if they provide warranty for your model.

Tried more scans. Telling it to use system tools to check HD boot caused it to freeze. Gonna have to risk ordering a full repair. Can I end up loosing too much?

Disregard the thing about 2.5" WD drives, I wrote the before I read that you have one made by seagate and I forgot to delete it.

I live in Brazil nigga. Shit is tough.

It's not 2,5''. It's full sized. Will try looking into it, but I live on the middle of bumfuck nowhere, chances are I will need at least 800kms to get to a filiated support.

Disk manegement says "Connecting to Virtual Disk Service" for minutes without response.

I am gonna risk the advanced tests.

>seagate
I had 2 seagate drives die on me within a few years, never bought seagate again

And now the Seagate tools is stuck at 0% on the quick repair guys this isn't funny I am getting reall spooked.

Closed the program. After 6 minutes it hadn't even started it seems. Log says "repair aborted".

Complete generic test won't move either. Getting real annoyed here.

Yeah, definetly gonna avoid them from now on too. Looking at a Western Digital one on Amazon, but super sp00ked about ordering it and having the brazilian IRS jews seize it and demand aburd taxes on it.

Don't you have local online electronics retailers?

I do. They just either don't have the one I just saw in stock or charge a good 50% more for it.

Also, getting real tired of the Seagate tools. Any other little sofwares you guys can reccomend?

I can't even open Explorer without it crashing. Probably because the disgusting windows feature of quick access keeping one of my External HD folders on it.

It works if I disconnect the HD. It is the drive fucking it up. How the hell am I gonna fix this shit...

Tried to use the HD in a different PC. Took forever for that antique to start, and it told me to "format D: to use it". I don't wanna do that, it's gonna really fuck up my files isn't it?

If I coul format and somehow recover the files I would do it, but something tells me it wont work. Will it?

have tried you recovery software? use KNOPPIX it saved my a couple of times and my drives got corrupted.

>and
*when

Guys I think it's clicking. It's over.

F to my 3TB collection of Porn, Movies, Series and music.

Not even sure i can take it to a support to salvage it. Some of the stuff in there could get me in trouble.

I haven't. I don't think I would manage tho, that one is a Linux boot disc, and my HD is a USB external HD. If you have similar programs I would love them though.

I can sometimes get the propreties window to show on the explorer. I could format it, maybe. Would those recovery systems be able to "undelete" my files?

You can boot from a live USB and plug in your external HDD.

How can you save stuff like that on a single single drive? At least you'll learn from your own mistakes

My WD drive has been clicking for over 4 years now. It doesn't mean shit.

6 months of warranty

Uma Delicia

>Seagate
There's your problem.

>people still thinking Seagate is a bad brand due to 3TB desktop class failures after the very same website they learned this from in 2015 has newer data that indicates that WD dropped in quality and Seagate rose

Que merda de loja você comprou esse HD que só oferecia 6 meses de garantia? Certeza que não tem garantia do fabricante? Normalmente os fabricantes oferecem pelo menos 1 ano de garantia.

Save and get a qnap and drives

>Seagate shill
