try looking around in the windows uninstall utility and remove anything that doesn't look like it belongs.

before you go uninstalling malware, get iobit uninstaller. if you use that, you can purge the files and registry entries to prevent it from respawning

unfortunetly i dont have a screenshot of it, but when my friend's pc was shit slow, i scanned it with malwarebytes 1.x and it showed ~14,500 infected files, trying to remove them did nothing and we ended up reinstalling windows 7

backup images/videos/music files and wipe the drive. reinstall windows, then install firefox or chrome with ublock origin and enable all the filter lists in ublock except the language lists. tell your friend to scan his shitty russian keygens and game cracks on virustotal before running them. bonus points if you install virtualbox for that stuff. even more bonus points if you convince your friend to ditch windows and switch to ubuntu or linux mint.
do NOT try to get rid of the malware any other way, you can not trust a compromised system.
also don't do it for free at least make him buy your some beer or movie tickets or something. trust me, don't do it for free.

what about I tested it a few hours ago and clam seems to work good (which some eicar testvirus, I know that is not a good test). What if someone wants to install wine and play games. If clamav really helpful or is wine itself a to big risk. A windows program that deletes z:/ (or everything it can find) will delete your home directory in linux and some stuff like lutris NEED z:/ to access their configs while playing some games sadly. not even proton is good.

work with a guy who used to design such programs, they also schedule to re-download themselves again in a week or something if you uninstall them, so after you do, check all the update schedules to make sure the malware won't boomerang back into his machine
I dont miss windows. Anti viruses dont work most use sig based detection, crypters just add enough junk to change the sig and its fully undetectable. Need to be at constant alert to check what youre going to open. Compared to linux almost everything is open source, most have big communities with smart people behind who will alert if something weird is committed or if they find smth in package repositories. I still havent been infected and i have been using linux for near 2 years.
