Looking to switch to Linux as my daily driver and leave W10 as a gay-ming only second boot. Balancing security and ease of use are my main concerns; something like qubes is beyond me. I've used Mint a little but hear they have a sketchy record regarding security.

Should I just go with a flavor of Ubuntu or something else? Keep in mind I'm the kind of Linux ""user"" who has to google the most simple terminal commands for 15 minutes.

Stick to Windows if you value your time.

I'm willing to sacrifice time, just trying to be realistic with what I'll actually persist with using rather than giving up on

Any Ubuntu based distro should do you well, I would personally suggest something like manjaro because you get the added benefit of the AUR

Just use regular ubuntu. That's all I've used for seven years. I've tried others on my laptop but I always end up using ubuntu. Dual-booting is a pain, too. I just built a second computer for GTA.
There's a learning curve but nothing bad.

AUR?

You are the security.
Start with ease of use, add security incrementally as you learn and get experience.

Note: security is a goal, not a destination. Enjoy the journey.

Ubuntu if you're going to use it as an internet machine and don't care about the UI
if you need to use it as a general purpose desktop then go with Kubuntu (more spyware but also more stable) or Neon (no or little spyware but updated more often)
that said, dual booting is a royal pain in the ass

Honestly, I‘d say go with Ubuntu LTS or Debian Stable/Unstable.
Why Ubuntu LTS? I guess you want to keep your OS for at least 3 years, so LTS makes sure you get security updates. Debian only has „LTS“ Versions.

Depending on what Desktop you use, you can already decide before installing it:
ubuntu.com/download/flavours
On Debian you can decide during the installation and also install multiple Desktop Environments.
Also, Debian and Ubuntu take advantage of the Ubuntu-Users Forums. Ubuntu is based on Debian, so 99% of the UbuntuUsers Forums also apply to Debian.

you autists asking for security make my blood boil. all you do online is watching memes on youtube, shitposting on this garbage site, playing gaymes and watching porn. and you think you need an operative system like kali or gentoo. well, you don't. the only thing you need is a 2-step verification and a not retard-tier password and you'll be 100% alright

don't fucking install gentoo or whatever just because >muh privacy, you're gonna hate your life and learn nothing about how things work. you don't even need a VPN as a matter of fact a VPN is going to do more harm than good if you don't know shit about security in the first place

t. glownigger

literally glowing

they're all hiding kiddie porn

I wouldn't trust my main OS that close to a windows 10 partition. Use 2 computers and an isolated network. 10 can't be trusted.

I'm exactly like you
Debian with cinnamon my guy. Trust me.

>what is a data breach
Shut the fuck up you naive retard.
For anyone who regularly shitposts about (((them))) or is into any kind of weird fetish porn, if their browsing and posting histories became public their lives would basically be over, and half of them would kill themselves. Which could easily happen when EVERYTHING you do is stored and linked to your account on a private server. Sure, Tor is great, but if you aren't going to use it at least make sure only the government actually knows what you do with your computer (the NSA has better data exfiltration measures in place than Jewgle or Jewzilla).
And think about it, if this actually happened en masse it would be worse for those people's lives than the fappening was for those normalfaggot women who were just taking socially-acceptable pics of themselves naked, again, a data leak which ALREADY HAPPENED.
Another concern is that unless something happens out of the blue and the current trend continues, everything you're doing right now will be scrutinized by the government and you will be given a negative social score if you engaged in wrongthink, but that's a technically harder challenge, which requires at the very least using the Tor network. I know it sounds ridiculous, but you just wait.
Just 5 years ago I thought some of the things that are happening now would be ridiculous, yet here we are. Don't understate the power of progress.

just use incognito mode retard

except windows 10 has a fucking keylogger embedded into it and firecuck and chrome send every url or search term you type in before you even press enter to Google

Unironically Ubuntu, I would still be using it if it had the AUR.

Since you're a windows user, I'd recommend Lubuntu. Xubuntu is also ok. I've distro-hopped from Ubuntu to Arch to Void, but that's more of general hobbyism.
IIRC there are boot isos of other distros with default DEs and GUI/ncurses installers, but ubuntu is going to have anything you could possibly want out-of-the-box.

Plus, as nearly everyone's first distro, the documentation is great; you can search any question in plain english and find a relevant stack-exchange post on the first page.
