>tfw your T440p 1080 panel has pressure marks
What I can do in order to remove them?

replying for interest, would also like an answer.

I got something similar off ebay (bought for 2 laptops) - I will QQ hard if this happens, but I wont be surprised.
As in, from pressing against it kara boga style? Do you mean there are ded pixels, being offcolor, on the screen?

They look like purple irregular smudges in a black background. In white or high luminosity colors they are almost invisible.

Got x230t with 2*2gb ram, is there a reason to get more if I already use ssd?
Also is there a point for 2*8gb?

2x4gb of ram is more than enough for basic tasks

8 is the baseline unless you're literally just using it to check emails. If you want to do any sort of more intensive tasks while multitasking with it then go for 16.

Its not a white spot though. In white backgrounds is completely invisible.

I'm currently reassembling a T61 - do all the varying part numbers on plastics really matter (apart from the widescreen/standard screen ones)? I'm trying to get a new bottom base cover, and there are several different part numbers, and was sure if it'd be an issue.

Msata ssd for my T420 finally arrived. It's perfect - now laptop is faster and much more silent. SSD isn't a meme after all.

Did you have a sata ssd before this or did you go straight from harddrive to msata?

Msatas are so cute too, shame my x200's can't use them. :3

is it worthless to buy a w530 so i can get a 2GB graphics card so i could run WoW and other low tier games on it while im cozy in bed. or should i buy a newer laptop around that same price that can probably do the same thing

Attached: 1541526264300.png (637x720, 461K)

Thats not a "traditional" pressure spot then but a keyboard mark. Not much you can do about it unfortunatly.

About to buy a T580 for 900€

Nope, I had only HDD. Now my T420 has msata SSD and HDD.

Although I have small sata SSD on my desktop, but that's another story.

Real Thinkpads have the logo upside down when open.

does linux support sim on thinkpad?

My x201 stopped working and I only got it 3 days ago ;-;

I'm looking for something light-weight but powerful enough for work/uni/everyday load. Mostly writing down stuff, some videos and browsing. 14" looks like a sweet spot between portable and big enough screen. The X1 Carboon G3 looked good with its 1440p and 14" display in what is normally a 13,3" body. The ~300€ price is pretty good too.

Is there anything that really speaks against the X1 Carbon G3? Can the i5-5300U keep up?

I got a new t480s with simcard slot and modem. Works perfectly with opensuse leap 15.

Depending on the distro you might need to fuck around a bit with different settings/conf files but you should be able to get it to work

What's the most aesthetically pleasing Thinkpad Jow Forums?

for it's the x200

T400, T410, T420. Which of these has the best screen?

What's a good replacement for a lenovo g480?

Thanks, I will stick with 2*2 for now, might look for 2*4 in the future.
On unrelated note, my x230t come with jap keyboard, but I can't make it works. It's always listed as HID keyboard in Device Manager.
Anyway to fix it? I'm on win 7.

I really dislike the angled part at the top of the screen that locks it down when closed. seems so outdated

It's not exactly an aesthetic choice on Lenovo's side, you know.

It is a HID keyboard.. You just have to download the jap input and language pack in winblows if that's what you want.

THIS. Too bad they're so goddamn slow.

X40

You can replace the panel.

Many buttons don't align with what's printed on it. Is that normal? Like, the @ sign is printed as ".

I'd like to install MacOS on my X230, just to give it a try -- however, per the guide I'm using, I need a Mac to download MacOS and create the bootable USB (tonymacx86.com/threads/unibeast-install-macos-sierra-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.200564/).

I don't have access to a Mac, so I need some help, /tpg/. Is there anyone who has gone through this process recently and still has their USB? You can turn it into an .iso really easily and upload it to my FTP server.!

Attached: rice.png (1023x575, 554K)

If you haven't changed the input from ANSI or whatever you normally use then of course it's not gonna magically give you something different..

Attached: x40platform.png (998x768, 365K)

how so? they designed the machine

Bought a very cheap t440s the other week, has a stuck pixel I am trying to fix. It'll work out in the end. It is at the top of the screen, about 3 pixel from the bezel. Very easy to ignore.

Is it possible to control the red dot light on the back. I've heard it's bios driven but idk because all the threads were on reddit and they seemed like retards (one of them said you can't turn it off because it is back light driven).

pirate it. Literally found it as the first result on google.

boomers won't ever use Arch as it changes too fast, it was second to adopt systemd after Fedora. Real boomers use Slackware

are there any thinkpads with decent res (glossy) and keyboard with the older layout (insert/del/home/end/pg up/pg down grouped together)

last thinkpad i got had an abysmal screen

whats the word on ThinkPad X1 Tablet (3rd Gen)?
better than surface pro 6

Is it possible to land good deals on thinkpads in Germany?
They seem way more expensive than I would have anticipated.
Anything Tx50 or newer with at least 1080p, 6GB Ram and an 240GB SSD is either heavily used and partially damaged or easily >400€

>T420 with i5-3360M
>X230 with i7-3520M
>X220 with i7-2640M

These are my Thinkpad babies - will I ever be required to update?
>No

Nein.

>tfw not a single 9 cell battery listed for T430 in my country
Is the T420 battery compatible with T430?

Attached: 1529703549415.jpg (259x194, 5K)

it happens occasionally
yes, if you're willing to flash the BIOS on your T430

>if you're willing to flash the BIOS on your T430
Nah, man, I guess I'll have to go with 6 cell for now.

My X220's battery is being really fucky. Fn+F3 menu in Ubuntu shows the intended capacity for a 9-cell correctly and says the battery is at 30% wear, which seems accurate, but tlp says the intended and current max capacities are like 2200 mWH and current charge is stuck at 140 mWH. Battery indicator in the upper right is stuck on 6% and says "calculating..." but the battery does not charge. When I unplug the computer from the power supply, the computer shuts off. It's not like the battery is worn down, it's like it's totally nonworking. This is a, presumably, original battery that came with the computer from the Ebay seller. What can I do about this?

Attached: yui_scream_meme.jpg (1641x2048, 335K)

The BIOS flash is able to be done with a USB, the same way the keyboard flash is done. I did it, because the t430 I bought came with a 55++ 9-cell from the t420, and it works fine.

Project to make the bootable usb is here: github.com/hamishcoleman/thinkpad-ec

What do you expect in a fucking ultrabase?

the w530s graphics card is a workstation card. It can probably play wow and other games decently but it'd be working way too hard and running too hot. You'd be better off buying a laptop with a dedicated graphics card for gaming for maybe a little more or around the same price.

What's thinkpad has classic 100% keyboard? I need a windows 7 facebook machine for my SO

I still have mine that I used in college. I really miss it, the rubberized coating on the keycaps was super comfy.
It's too bad, at this point I've moved on to a MBP as my development machine.

Not just that, the battery life is horrendous.

What's the cheapest Thinkpad I can get with a 14-15 inch screen that's readily available with a 1080p IPS screen? As far as I can tell the T450s are the cheapest model that you can find with a 1080p IPS screen, but I've also seen some third gen X1 Carbons with some that even come with 1440p IPS screens. Are they worth picking up or do the thermals suffer because of the X1 Carbons being so thin and light?

Attached: image.jpg (662x645, 31K)

Why does /tpg/ not recommend the x240 anons?

Shitty trackpad and the X230 has better performance for cheaper

Ok I'll try that, then. Thanks, user.

I own one and as said the trackpad is shit.
Also it has only one RAM slot, while the x230 has two and you can put up to 16GB.

Both true, I had a x230 and gave to my brother bc he broke his and bought a x240. And while it is true that the touchpad is crap its is more comfortable to use, also no top phisical buttons. And the performance is a good payoff for the battery life it has desu.

Anyone ever install copper shims on the GPU in a T42, T43, or T60? Or maybe a T400, T500, or W500? Just wondering what thickness shims to get for my T43p. Its an IPS 1600x1200 model so I think it's worth fixing up

objectively the x1 carbon however x250 is my favourite

My First ThinkPad ever, T60, sadly, with an AMD GPU, so I can't libreboot it.

Attached: T60.jpg (960x539, 80K)

Are there any loonex distros that plays well with both touch and keyboard? I've installed windows 10 on my X230T, and I really like how I can easily switch between tablet and laptop form and everything works so seamlessly.
Swipe left from the bezel to switch apps, and swipe from right to access the control center, and I've configured the rotate button to open Start through a long press.

i have a t440p recommend me a good workstation computer i was thinking w540/1 but im open to recommendations

I'm torn between $180 X250 i5 8gb 1080p and $210 T440s i7 16gb 1080p ... Yeah X250 is cheaper but it only has 1 slot and 16gb ram costs $100

what was the battery life difference?

Two hours extra for the x240 i'd say. Both with big (6 or 9 cell, whatever is the one that has a chunk outside of the computer) and both chinese, so that might be a factor. I have also a second x240 battery that can be hotswapped bc it has a samll internal battery.

You need 16GB of RAM?

europoor here, wich thinkpad do i buy for light-medium cad work? pls halp

guys where do i get ips screen for x230/x220?

spend a big fraction of your budget on an egpu, then buy whatever laptop you can dock it to

M-maybe...

egpu seems expensive

T/W530 with an nvidia gpu, nvs 5400m, K2000M etc., they're made for this.
T420's nvidia model is too weak

eGPUs aren't for CAD work, they're just for hobbyist gamers.
Actual work needs a beefy CPU, ecc ram, workstation gpu and the guarantee that it'll actually be stable.

where the fuck do you find them for that price.

also look for t440s/t450/x240/250

the one with ips/fhd

I'm planning to buy a T450 just for school stuff, what am I in for? Does it make a lot of noise when typing? How easy is it to replace the battery?

Attached: mpv-shot0001.jpg (1280x552, 115K)

No you don't.

???????

O-okay.

Those are baby teeth...

I need to buy a laptop for post-grad. What's so bad about the newer T models?

A..Anyone need an adapter :3

Attached: 20190120_170629_800x450.jpg (800x450, 333K)

8th gen T series pretty much nothing, people will complain that build quality isn't as good or that more stuff is soldered but they're genuinely solid machines, the only real downside at this time is value imo
