still looking for help

Dock name/model?

What are the highest CPU and RAM specs I can get on these? Any of the following

T420,T430,W520,W530

And how good are the video cards/integrated graphics on them? I'd like to stream circa 1600x1200 videos

Any alternative non-thinkpad with better specs for sub 300$? Really don't need the nice qualities like the keyboard or build of a thinkpad anymore.

AFAIK, the t430 and t420 are limited to 16 gigs, and the W520 and W530 can handle 32 gigs. Although, with the W5XX ones, I don't believe all of them have 4 ram slots for the full 32gb's of ram.

All of the ones you've mentioned are capable of quad core, but the T420 and T430 will be pushing the limits thermally, unless you have one of the models with a GPU and have the GPU disabled.

No clue about the Nvidia graphics performance, but I know the W series has quadro workstation cards, which I suspect run a bit hotter.

my thinkpad arrived today. how do you anons keep it clean, any tips? I'm gonna wipe it down with some isopropyl alcohol.

Compressed air, alcohol, lint-free clotch, cotton swaps, comfy music and lots of patience

thank you based user, I forgot about comfy music

very comfy.
my jap keyboard for x220 should be arriving in 2 days. i also have 1 for my x230 but i don't like it because it's backlit and the keys are slippery,

i got one for the x220 it's comfy desu, what do you mean slippery like the coating has worn down?

Attached: 14_q248lsaby8.jpg (625x1000, 92K)

Non backlit xx30 series keyboards have a a rougher texture to them while the backlit keyboards are smoother.

>x60 tablet for university

I just wanted comfy 4:3 and smol, this shit is perfect otherwise but completely crippled by battery life.
Anything I can do or replace it with?

X62

unavailable in bongistan

would an x200 be a good replacement? in terms of battery life I don't know

Would the x200 be able to play HD movies well in Linux? core 2 duo's always seemed to shit themselves on current shows and movies

my x61t plays youtube 1080p30 fine on windows
dunno why the x220 shouldn't

you must be new here.

What is the most aesthetic Thinkpad?

I have a T60 should i go with Debian Stable or should I give Arch a try?

Bought a T480s a couple weeks ago and i'm in love with it. I'm not quite sure what this port is though. I know on the left is the thunderbolt 3/usb c, but what is on the right? Is this a lenovo-only port?

Attached: lenovo-laptop-thinkpad-t480s-black-gallery-06.jpg (1060x596, 22K)

it's for Lenovo's docking station

if it's local playblack then it shoudn't have a problem

This general is still friendly to other enterprise-level laptops, correct?

My convertible Fujitsu's battery is on its way out. It's got me thinking about if I just want to get myself something somewhat newer instead of shelling for a not-shit battery. Are there any decent convertible laptops that have been made within the past few years that still use a stylus and can be picked up for a few hundred USD or less? This thing was free, it's not my daily driver, and I don't mind it not being a powerhouse. I've always admired the look and feel of Dell's XT series, but to my knowledge there haven't been any since the XT3. Not opposed to ThinkPads either, but I thought they petered off around the same time as the XT3.

Attached: LifeBook T731.jpg (640x480, 27K)

Is that the legendary SOIC-512?

Ethernet in Lenovo's weird form factor for docking station pass through.

So I got a lenovo brand three button trackpad off amazon to upgrade the trackpad in my t440s(which I'm currently running mint on). So basically I've tried an assortment of drivers off the debian page in addition to fucking with a bunch of mouse/trackpad settings within the desktop and the three buttons won't seem to work. However what's strange is the surface of the track pad will actually still right/left click in addition to moving the cursor, simply JUST the three buttons won't work. I also tried booting into windows and fucking with drivers/settings in there and found the same issue with the three buttons. I did a test in the console which showed the system doesn't receive any sort of signal input when you click on either of them. So basically my question is, what the fuck? Did they send me a shitty track pad or what? Is there and possibility I didn't insert cable back to the motherboard and a couple of pins aren't touching properly?

Based.

Have you guys bought the x210? Are there any issues?
My friend's in college, and her Latitude e7470 is shitting the bed. She needs a new laptop, but I don't know what would work best for her--it probably needs discrete graphics for photo editing and overwatch, though.

why even bother

MEME

What do i NEED to upgrade with my T440p ?
Base model with i5 330m , 8gb ram & 500g hdd

screen, trackpad, ssd

Thanks anons for all your help. I let the Pi do the flashing, came back in a couple hours and my X230 boots again! Thankfully I didn't fry my eeprom after all. :)

illya

is that cpu correct?
get a 37 tdp quad core cpu (4702mq/4712mq)
16gb ram 2133 mhz
2 ssd and 1 m.2 ssd
t450 trackpad with buttons
ips 1080p screen
maybe backlit kb if u want

I don't use them on my lap so I don't mind heat much. Would the fans be annoying though? I just want a decent performing machine that won't piss me off with fans either

i'm keeping an eye out for nip T420 keyboard. That looks great.

Nice! I kept checking back here to see if you posted any updates, glad it worked out. :)

i hope i like it!

fk u t480s

weebs

Can you run windows 8.1 with coreboot? If not, where can I get a whitelisted bios for the t420?

I have a t430 in the mail with no drives and know nothing about storage. if a small ssd for os/such and a ~2tb hdd for media is a good idea, any recs or autistic spec comparison sites to look into? if not, what should I reconsider?
(getting an ultrabay adapter for a second drive, currently have a 1tb dying hdd with not-full 40gb / and very full ~900gb /home)

Attached: caddy.jpg (792x576, 139K)

A friend runs 10 LTSC on his T420 with a quad core ivy bridge so i don't see why not.

Don't apply the alcohol (assumed its isopropyl) to the lcd shell. Also, doesn't it wear down plastic/fade it out with constant reapplication?
Where'd you get the keyboard from doe?
try another supplier? X200 would be ok too
did you install xf86-input-synaptics?

put in a msata 128gb for your OS, then a 2tb hdd for your data. Then you can do whatever you want on that extra bay.

Japs keyboard is only good as meme factor. I keep hitting that kanji button beside that fucking tiny space bar.

I GOT SCAMMED BY THIS CHINK
it was only 20$ but he said the screen res was 1680x1050, this is what i got
i guess it's fine, this motherfucker is sturdy as fuck, feels more solid than my x220 and that bitch is rock solid
But this screen, god damn it's trash, anyone know about a good way to get an okay screen for cheap ? i'm flat broke
if not, i'll manage

isn't that hard, fool

might have phrased it poorly, which brands/models should I look into, or is price the only real factor? I remember a lot of handwringing over drive variants on Jow Forums, figured there'd be a chart or consensus or something

yeah nah i'm a fool, it was a local ad, there was a snowstorm, the chink handd it to me thru his car window and i ran away to not freeze to death
shoulda met up somewhere i could have tested it properly, only had the time to check it turns on

Whats the best laptop / thinkpad to get that is $200 or under and can run small things like runescape/counterstrike source and browse twitch and youtube and Jow Forums well without no lag

i don't give a shit about brands anymore, only benchmarks and all my storage including OS backups are in my NAS
that being said i just go with cheap /csg/ SSDs that have decent speeds, like kingdian

T430 has two types of fan, Delta or Toshiba. Delta runs very quiet but at a lower RPM and is worse at cooling compared to the Toshiba. Don't know how much louder the Toshiba is but I've read people comparing it to jet engine on takeoff. Still, I have a toshiba heatsink assembly coming in the mail because my quad core cpu could use the extra cooling. You can tell which fan it is without taking the laptop apart by monitoring the RPM. If it maxes out at around 5600 then Delta. The Toshiba runs around 1000 higher.

Attached: left toshiba right delta.jpg (1052x527, 99K)

Alcohol will damage the finish on thinkpad plastic. I suggest just some damp cloth or microfiber and lots of patience. Perhaps you can use lower alcohol content mixed with water.

I've also heard getting the cooler with the extra heat pipe for the dgpu is beneficial, even if you don't have a dgpu. Adds an extra pipe to carry the heat.

It will probably help and they are the same price anyway.

My problem with the t430 is that when the nvidia gpu is disabled in bios, the mini dp does not work. They are connected somehow. VGA works fine however. Can anyone with intel only t430 confirm if mini dp work with intel HD graphics?

this seems like i will puy upwards of 1.5x the price of the t440p ($150)
if i buy new cpu = 100$
ram = 40$
ssd = 40$
thats allready not including the 60$ 1080p screen and its more then what i paid for the pad

Where's that CS student with the futa wallpaper

Congrats man! Always nice to see a revived thinkpad

awesome desu
ali it cost like £22
yeah the space is a bit weird kek

You will love it, user.

why are people constantly selling thinkpads compared to other brand of laptops?
initial assumptions have me thinking its because these laptops are bad and people want to get rid of them but i generally see people praise thinkpads.

i know this sounds like a shitposting post but im just generally curious. mostly because ive been looking for laptop to buy because my new job is gonna have me traveling a lot.

Read the sticky? Many companies are selling off their old laptops that are past their useful life, to third parties which makes its way to ebay and other e-commerce sites.

do I need a caddy for an SSD for an x230 thanks

Anyone got a X1 Carbon G3 and can say something about its fan noise?

mSATA is just SATA 2 tho, it'll bottleneck some SSDs.

>I've read people comparing it to jet engine on takeoff
They're absolutely 100% correct. It does keep my 3740QM cool enough to almost never throttle, though.

what's a good cheap dankpad for installing macOS on? x-series if possible. It's for music tracking, all my main computors use linux but the quality of music tracking software in linux is deplorable desu

it's a standard usb c thunderbolt 3 port, it looks unusual because that's also where docking station is going

What games are you playing on your thinkpads?

no

>what's a good cheap dankpad for installing macOS on? x-series if possible
you need special wifi card
also no drivers

Seems to work well enough with 5.0.0-rc.2 and latest BIOS. 4.20.x used to crash periodically with 'VMC page fault'.
