Just a friendly reminder that Stax headphones are audiophool garbage.

$4000 SR-009 was rated lower in blind tests than a $200 K701

Even best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi, kek

What are these? They look really good.

That looks really close

They sound like though. Just like any other Stax headphones.

yep, knew it

>no fucking upper mids
>good
HAHAHAHAHAHA

You can not apply Harman target to measurements done on different rig

Stax incels are being mad 24/7 after Stax were exposed as an audiophool garbage manufacturer

sounds pretty good for audiophool garbage

I don't care about alleged coloration of stax. Harman is just copeware for dynamic headphone misery.

Attached: 1547496087040.png (1305x892, 896K)

Yes, that's raw frequency response from a different rig. If you don't understand what I am talking about, then compare other Innerfidelity measurements with Harman or oratory1990 data.

>plebbitor data
no thx

If worse-than-mid-fi considered good now lol

You can find Harman measurements in their paper

>snaps your AgayG
uh oh

we aren't talking about your dt990 nikki boy

god this general is retarded and circlejerky
is this discord or something? what's with the names

We are talking about Stax and that they are objectively worse than mid-fi

we have weirdos who hate certain things so much they constantly spam about it

well when you shit up like 50 threads in a row somebody is gonna figure out who you are

My girlfriend is so cute and lovely as always

even the experience of buying the Grados was better maybe thats what I really miss about them the memories I had with them :(

I always knew that Stax is a shitty meme

Yeah, they are literally worse than Beats

>nikki and sapphire jerking themselves off again
will you two get a room or something

Stax incels on suicide watch, lmao

I don't understand the purpose of this spam, you're not going to be able to contradict their own impressions.

>t. triggered stax incel

is anyone here actually upset by these weirdos?

not stax in particular, all electrostat

For me, it's the HD600.

Thanks STAX fags for ruining the general

only in the sense that /hpg/ is even less usable than normal when they're shitting up threads

Idol trash here. What's your setup like, user?

Attached: 1524963699015.png (1920x1080, 858K)

So let me get this straight, the only headphone that was better than the HD600 was the L700? What about the HD800S?

Stax are worse than mid-fi my dude

They were ok, but they sounded slightly too thin, too much treble at the expense of midrange/low end.
HD800S were still better than HD660S, which sounded too warm, although not as much as the *horrible* HD650 I also tried. I also put their HD600 on for a reference point; they were alright.
DT1990 sounded offensively bad. Memorably so. If I got some for free, I'd sell them shortly after.

Gotcha. You're one of the few posters I can trust in this shithole. As a HD600 owner myself, it's been a nightmare to find an upgrade.

looking for high quality headphones + an amp and/or dac

DT880 or HD600. Anything else at that price point is a meme.

I haven't commented on your impressions of the dt1990 despite seeing them many times but I want to chime in to say that you are misrepresenting them. you listened in a loud store, correct? obviously the dt1990 is going to sound offensive, you have to listen to it loudly. others will enjoy the bass boost and treble boost at quieter levels. at high volume levels the ear perceives audio in a very neutral way. your impressions may be accurate at high volume levels but it will be a different story when it comes to home listening.

K612

>was better than the HD600 was the L700?
Neither L700 nor L300 sounded "better than HD600". They just sounded good enough in the overall balance. They're interesting because while managing good enough overall, they definitely had better detail retrieval.
HD600 is still the better all-rounder, and my recommendation. Don't even consider STAX if you don't have HD600.
Buying HD600 is wise.
>As a HD600 owner myself, it's been a nightmare to find an upgrade.
I can relate. As per above, the L700 felt worth owning, and I'll be getting them down the road. But they're not a straight upgrade from HD600. Unfortunately, nothing I tried is.

Attached: 1529136677497.png (1920x1080, 1.65M)

see don't trust anyone at face value

what about a DAC or AMP?

>But they're not a straight upgrade from HD600
that's because you're used to a midbass hump that makes the hd600 sound "balanced". it's an easy EQ.

JDS Atom for an amp. You probably don't need a DAC.

>you listened in a loud store, correct?
>DT1990
It was e-earphones, which is nice and quiet.
>STAX
I listened to STAX at yodobashi, which is unfortunately loud. So I had to use volume above my comfort zone.
The midbass hump is very soft on the HD600, unlike the HD650/660 and SR-007, where it is outright annoying.

Attached: 1518311936959.png (1920x1080, 624K)

is an amp basically a dac? they serve the same purpose?

I find them entertaining. probably one guy though

I'll have a really nice setup eventually, and then I'll enjoy every minute of bragging about it on /hpg/.

Here

Attached: 69320968_p0.jpg (700x980, 1.57M)

So you're ordering HD600 and DX3 Pro? Good.

>The midbass hump is very soft on the HD600, unlike the HD650/660 and SR-007, where it is outright annoying.
okay, my point stands. easy EQ.
>It was e-earphones, which is nice and quiet.
i'm not a beyer fag and probably wouldn't like them, but you should consider why people do before outright dismissing them as shit. people like them for other genres than you as well. idol trash is mostly female vocals.

A DAC converts the digital signal (like USB) to analog audio. An amp makes the signal louder.

thanks for the explanation, im new to this so far ive just plugged all my headphones/mics into the green and pink holes on the mobo. Im just looking for something that could accept a record player and my pc while being able to output headphones and speakers

Most modern motherboards have no problems driving high impedance headphones. I don't know if your record player can power headphones so the amp would actually come in handy there.

A DAC (digital analogue converter) converts digital sound signals into analogue ones. Every digital device with an audio jack has a DAC chip built in, and vinyl players never process digital signals in the first place, but some people believe an external DAC will deliver just that extra bit of sound quality from a computer compared to that $1 chip they throw on the motherboard.

Amps take the weak analogue signal fed to them from a computer/player/DAC and amplify it to make sure the signal can overcome the impedance of hard to drive headphones and actually deliver the sound to your ears as it was meant to. Hard to drive headphones on a weak source will be quiet and potentially have a discolored sound.

Some high quality headphones can be driven very easily, but for the majority of them an amp is a good idea, and no headphones will ever sound worse with an amp than without an amp. A DAC isn't inherently necessary, a lot of DAC obsession comes from placebo effects, but I wouldn't turn down a decent DAC+amp combo unit if it was in my budget, having a DAC included won't hurt.

>I'll take one L700 please

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 76K)

No. I'm eyeing an SMSL stack right now, and then I'm still unsure about the headphones, but I won't stop at one pair. Ideally I'd have a half dynamic, half planar and half open, half closed collection with a varity of sound signatures.

>people like them for other genres than you as well.
I do listen to electronica, metal, mods/demoscene, classical... I'm not listening to idols 24/7.
DT1990 sounded horrible already with the idol music I tested them with. Like underwater. Like the one time someone loaned me some beats. Considering how bass/treble heavy some music is in the first place, I wouldn't want a v-shaped signature on top of that.

Attached: 1546873173906.png (1920x1080, 698K)

>I'll take one DT1990 please

Attached: 1548082558833.jpg (1000x850, 112K)

alright well, I won't argue with your impressions but don't be self-centered thinking everything prefers the same sound as you. I myself manage to enjoy bass cannons as well as neutral cans and treble ones.

I've heard the headphone discords are worse than /hpg/

so lets say I buy the atom amp. Record player goes into RCA in, PC 3.5mm in. Speakers get RCA out, headphones get 1/4'' out? Then to make speakers work I simply unplug the headphones. While I can swap pc and record player with the press of the input button. That's basically perfect for me if it works like that.

makes sense now thanks a lot, ill pass on a dac for now then

cute drawing of me

Interesting, DT1990 sounded extremely piercing, harsh and sibilant to me. I felt like the highs gave me a headache. I ain't even memeing. The DT880 I enjoyed.

every single discord about [subject] is absolutely awful cancer

Yeah the Atom is really the best amp you can get for around 100 dollars. Nothing even comes close.

>I'll take one HD600 please

Anyone can help me find the frequency response of the august e650? I need to tell my friend not to buy bluetooth headphones.

Leave the normie alone. He doesn't care about sound quality so why bother him?

look at all this snake oil outclassed by a $150 usb interface

Whatever you give him he will hate because it doesn't have overblown midbass

who is this angel goddess?
