Yes. Ring was a dumb name for a softphone program so they decided to name it after Nur ad-Dīn Abd ar-Rahmān Jāmī, also known as Mawlanā Nūr al-Dīn 'Abd al-Rahmān or Abd-Al-Rahmān Nur-Al-Din Muhammad Dashti, or simply as Jami or Djāmī and in Turkey as Molla Cami.

Nothing wrong with XMPP, and what about the privacy? The page says nothing about encryptions, or I missed it?
Jayden Ross
Wasn't it named Ring? That was a solid name.

Last time I checked, the Linux desktop gui was made in GTK, which means it absolutely sucked ass on low resolution screen and enforced minimal size greater than the screen itself.
Not sure why the new Jami site doesn't mention it.

(shill-esque op) see: warosu.org/g/thread/69130724 >Ring, wonderful opensource end-to-end encryption messenger, has been renamed to "Jami" which means in arabic = mosque as a noun, to hump / have sex as a verb. git.jami.net/savoirfairelinux/ring-project/issues/542 >issue closed and locked Do you really want a guy like this spearheading an entire communications platform? Are systemd and cocked trannyware not enough? Use matrix or signal, not this garbage.

>can only be used with one client Yup, I'm sticking with IRC ameliorated. i.e. pic related
>gnu-approved In the trash it goes. Nothing is more repulsive than an autistic project that just tries to badly copy jury-rigged software from fifty years ago.
A world without GNU would be a better world.
Easton White
>missing my point this hard That's Riot. My point is, once someone makes a non-electron client that supports voice, I can stop using Riot and still have all of my data. Quaternion would pretty much be perfect if it supported voice, for example. It's only a matter of time before someone makes a non-normie client
Jose Edwards
>once someone makes a non-electron client that supports voice, I can stop that's the thing...it won't happen

>just tries to badly copy jury-rigged software from fifty years ago. >jury-rigged >jury kek >copy software from fifty years ago What about Jami/Ring is copying fifty year old software? GNU at this point is not just limited to the original core utilities and C compiler. They have a ton of other shit now too. Scroll down on this page to get an idea. gnu.org/software/software.html

Jami means mosque meeting aka it's aimed at terrorists.
David Ross
Signal only works with your phone number, it's not safe. Matrix does not have that problem but the UI is too shit to have normal people use it. It also tends to be very slow/buggy for voice and whatnot.
