Get him a desktop. No child that age is going to actually benefit from a laptop, it's just going to perform worse and die faster. Especially if he's playing games, and especially since you're on a tight budget, a used gaming PC will be easier to find on the cheap with sufficient specs for that.

He had an old laptop with an i5 processor but there was some coming out of it recently. I don t wanna build an desktop because of space and mobility reasons. He also stay alone for around 8 hours a day or more. I don t want him to start a fire by accident when messing with it.
