dont want over ear for werk and outside
cant wear in ear because a) they hurt and b) i get middle ear inflammation
so on ear it is.

im still proud of this image

eat some bee pollen and honey, regulates your inflammation so you don't have that issue no more owo

Just because I do sissy stuff doesn't mean I take HRT

It doesnt matter. Buy over ear or dont buy any.

just buy on ears jfc
the sony whatever people buy are ok

With that budget, I'd buy multiple headphones that can fit different use cases than find one headphone that does everything mediocre. For your desktop listening I recommend DT770, DT880 or DT990. Do not buy high end Beyers like DT1770 and DT1990, they are worse than the midrange models. For the portable headphones, get a cheap wireless bluetooth option. Maybe something like HD4.40, but that isn't bright, I'm not familiar with bluetooth headphones.

Just got the FIFIMAN Arya's yesterday. I haven't had too much time with these but I already prefer them over the LCD2/LCD4's I've had. However, its not as resolving/detailed and engaging as the Utopias.

I will say its pretty fun sounding so far due to the increased bass (its not a lot more than the Utopias but noticeable increase). We'll see how things change when I get the balanced cables later today...

yeah, meaning you hear more details.

My amp puts out more power in balanced mode.

wow, didn't know Jow Forums was this ignorant. No wonder people push stax and cheap massdrop knockoffs and then HDXXX are end game.

I assume you mean the Massdrops and not Sennhesiers that start with 6

i googled hdxxx to see what that was and i wasn't surprised to see a bunch of results for "hd porn"

>stax aren't endgame but garbage planars from a chink company are
>absolute state
No you for you too.

people generally recommend the hd6xx over the hd650 because they're cheaper rn.
same thing just a different coat of paint.

the "punchiness" of your expensive headphones can be done with stax with a simple bass boost. balanced lines don't do anything if they aren't between differential amps, it's physically impossible. more power doesn't improve the sound of your headphones it's only useful for EQ.

learn how to EQ and come back later

Oh, interesting, thanks.

>asking a hardened audiophool to EQ
I bet he'll complain about digititus or some snake oil mysticism.

more likely he uses some autistic shit like asio or kernel streaming because he doesn't want to compromise his bitperfect audio

>Not realizing having to "EQ" to correct flaws inherent to stax headphones speaks volumes (pun not intended) if its poor design.

yeah, or I can just get better headphones and not have to resort to cover for deficiencies. Plus, the artificial increase to bass tends to come at the expense of details in higher frequencies.

over ear is better than on ear

How do the covers change the sound?

you are laughing at him from the peanut gallery for being an audiophool but if you're one of the objectivists here I look at you the same exact way: disappointment and contempt
get out already. bass is preferential and the easiest part of the spectrum to tweak to preference. the focals have mechanical clipping issues and actually have worse maximal bass output than stax.

Attached: 1528532237029.jpg (470x640, 275K)

>artificial increase to bass
If EQing is "artificial increase" you better not ever learn how music is actually produced. Because every single thing you listen to already went through a shitton of EQ. Mixing inherently involves EQing frequencies and tracks to decide which element should be more prominent and louder than the other.
EQ'ing headphones doesn't damage the music anymore than the people who did the mix already did. Now, if you make bass louder on a headphone with ton of distortion or crappy excursion and listen loudly you will listen to the distortion or clipping as per other user duly noted, but if your headphones don't have any major flaws to begin with you will not be noticing anything by making a part of the spectrum more visible.

/hpg/ objectivists aren't real objectivists.

not really much at all desu. it looks like they took some inspiration from the r10/zmf and used a scooped chamber to deal with the reverb. isolation is fucking great, I may have to downsize my collection now. I was way more excited about the tips to be honest. they have a really wide bore that you don't need to insert deep, extremely comfort, yet it still has a good seal. it also is quick to place and stays there. it fixed my main issue with stax iems and it doesn't fuck with the sound like other tips.

the only thing left that's keeping me from recommending them to people is the amplification, the portable estat amp market is garbage

Attached: 1548255755758.gif (350x464, 301K)

Funny, I actually OWN the focal's and I don't have problems with lack of bass nor a need to bOoOoSsT it.

Keep on defending the stax meme in order to stay delusional that better exists and you don't have it.

well, people who keep pushing the same target curve as universal to every single person on earth certainly don't understand the limits of objectivism

bass is preferential. that's great you don't feel the need to bass boost them, others like less or more. if you had stax you could EQ the bass to the level of your focals and have even better treble. instead you are a retard. that's okay, different strokes for different folks.

head-fi.org/threads/focal-utopia-general-discussion.811273/page-71
You own a pair of headphones that do worse than one of the most universally reviled TOTLs, the K872. Congratulations.

>preferential
>different strokes for different folks
>stax has better treble & retard for not thinking so

You probably don't see any issues with your statements. But anyway, enjoy your artificial sounding highs and acknowledging that you have to boost whats missing and not realizing bumping bass on stax reduces the details of those 'better treble' you find so endearing.

focal is a shitty company, they do something that no other headphone manufacturer does: THEY GAME MEASUREMENTS.

not only did they send tyll a unicorn sample without the treble spike that every utopia has they even gimped their headphone lineup just so they will measure with lower distortion figures. looks pretty on paper, shit in practice.

the different strokes for different folks was sarcasm, and just because bass is preferential does not mean treble or midrange is.

>i was only pretending to be retarded!

>enjoy your artificial sounding highs
as opposed to notched updown highs?
>tyll a unicorn sample without the treble spike that every utopia has
Pic related, even if that's an unicorn model, it doesn't look good for the price.

fuck you're stupid! lmao! go play videogames.

that bass too

>self-hating cause chinese marv from sbaf
Is there even one corner of the internet that wants you? I would have thought SBAF is the friendliest place for the type of retard who buys balanced cables and utopias, yet you actually seem to hate SBAF and marv. What are you even doing on /hpg/ ? do you have a masochist streak? do you like being abused? I like abusing people, so maybe we should meet and I could do some dominatrix stuff onto you.

i love my dt1990! everyone should go buy one!

I really forgot to add, but "one dude experience on headfi" is someone actually proving and recording his headphones are clipping garbage.

I'll say this as a French : every single French product that makes it to export is nothing but a trashy fashion statement with little thought with regards to quality. HiFi companies like Focal and Devialet produce nothing but nice looking disposable trash. Our cars have german level reliability (aka not much) without the luxurious component. Our clothes designers focus on the impractical. Our weapon industry produces things nobody would want to copy. Our cuisine is the most overrated tripe.
It's always amazing to see foreigners buy into any of our stuff.

Not even our wines can stand genuine scrutiny. People buy it at a premium because it's French, not because it's better.

ATH-MSR7

He said no clamping and no sweating though.
Still, I don't know of an alternative for the price point.. ughu

oh fuck. something i have to mention is that it needs at least okay noise isolation. i have a loud keyboard i do not want to hear it when im listening to music!

Should be alright sweat and clamp wise.
The only ergonomics issue is the spot @ very top of the headband.

I've got an AKG K712 Pro, an ATH-R70X and a ATH-AD700X and need a headphone amplifier for them.

Something within the $99-$299 range.

>CLOSED
You sure 100%? The value/money is much lower on closed.

the last open ones i had blocked ZERO percent of outside noise and im not okay with that

>"shitty open bose"
Bose certainly isn't known for its open headphones. Maybe test-loan something decent like Sennheiser HD600.

Yeah that absolutely rules out the MSR7
The isolation is really bad.
If you don't mind emphasized bass the bose qc25 could work, they're sold under $200 these days. You seem to have had a bad experience with a previous bose but the QC25 are basically the most isolating your money can buy. Still, if you're the audiophile sort the bass is going to offend you.

the only closed headphones that actually fit your criteria (closed backs get warm on the ears) is the shure srh1540. it's also $350 used and $500 new, but it has perforated alcantara pads. a t50rp mod would work with alcantara pads but those pads make everything sound like shit. they are plush as fuck though

Attached: 5659728.png (1000x500, 63K)

my current point of reference is "is it better than 50 dollar earbuds" so i dont think the bass is going to be so horrible for my standards. are you sure they're closed? they look open to me

DAC included? Wired or portable?

Willing to get DAC if necessary.

All wired please unless wireless gives an advantage

By wired I meant driving from a power outlet on the wall. Some people want to use their amps on the go. Completely wireless amps don't exist and don't actually make ANY sense.

>stax
no bass

>Completely wireless amps don't exist and don't actually make ANY sense
yes they do. fiio q5. fiio btr3. earstudio es100

Dude, the QC25 not only are closed, but they have -active noise cancellation- and that stuff is miraculous level tech really. You only get better isolation from using IEM (ear dildos) or buying the newer wireless models, like the QC35 and Sony 1000xm3, and even then the improvements aren't dramatic compared to going from anything passive to a QC25.
I have the QC35 and their ability to block out noises is uncanny. I recently accompanied a friend to a hospital while wearing them in the waiting room and playing music at a low level, without blowing my eardrums off, I couldn't hear a single thing around me.

Attached: boseuh.jpg (311x415, 38K)

*l300, the gimped l700

Uuuhhh

Attached: Amplifier-FiiO-Q5-4.jpg (700x700, 48K)

didn't you already know that this industry is for people with 'tisms?

what i had read about noise cancellation is that its only good at cancelling droning background noises, such as a bus or busy place, and that they wouldnt be effective for stuff like keyboard clacking (and my place is fairly quiet with the exception of it)

still, if theyre good on all other accounts might as well get them when i have the money. just wanna be sure

I meant portable sorry.
