Thinkpads are the shit:
-They are rock solid
-Easily replaceable
-Cheap
-Core/Librebootable
But FUCK are they loud (and i mean in general, not only when the CPU is stressed out)
Has anyone ever found out a way to have a fanless laptop without IME on?

My T450 is nearly silent :^)
That's the problem, nearly silent is not enough in a closed room, you WILL hear it while working, and it's not unbearable BUT, why use it if there can be a better solution?
>But FUCK are they loud (and i mean in general
I guess you've never repasted a laptop. Used thinkpads come with a fossil instead of grease, and it can get so bad they end up throttling.
thinkpad x230 is very silent
probably the only model with this quality
>fanless laptop
enjoy your housefire
>You can only hear the fan when you put your ear next to the vent
>Ree too loud
What?
my t440s dosnt make a sound, it has a horrible trackpad tho
It costs like 20€ to swap it for a t450 one
Laptops made in 1999 were fanless
They used Pentium MMX 300MHz ultra low voltage chip
Why we cant make fanless laptop today?
There are many fanless ones but they're all equipped with sub 6W cpus
I've got a 12" fanless elitebook with a Core m 5Y71. The maximum temp is only 60C so it's cool and quiet
have you considered configuring your laptop in a way that lets you use it with keyboard controls 99%? thats what i did.
Thinkpads are shit
they don't come with the latest snappy hardware
just turn on the radio you fucking autist
It's almost if you have the buy a new thinkpad to get the "latest snappy hardware"
laptops are shit in general
they can't compare to a desktop gaymur PC
the average person does not need the latest hw. i study cs and i still only use an old t440s
No shit. It's almost if desktop gaymer pcs and laptops have different use cases.
my X220 is pretty silent, too.
newegg.com
IBM Thinkpad X200 for $59.99
also they get pretty hot
is it "fast enough" ?
I wish. T440s feels like it could be overclocked to 4GHz before the noice and heat would become unbearable
im gonna go to germany this summer and my T420 is kinda wonky, what kind of Thinkpad should i buy for my trip?
i need audio and mic jacks
It's surprisingly fast. Undervolting also increased performance by 20%. General surfing/office/videos and such work great. I tried Ubuntu as a virtual machine but it was a bit laggy. Needs some tweaking I guess. I'd love to get a thinkpad tablet with the core m cpu
>Easily replaceable
>Cheap
Only these two.
whats the most powerful CPU i can get from a thinkpad in the 100-240€ range? specially single-threaded performance
probably i7 3520m or some 2th or 3rd gen quad core
>Why we cant make fanless laptop today?
most ulv laptops will run fanless in idle/low load scenarios, if you want silence while rendering videos or something equally demanding then laptop is not really the answer here
And to think that iToddler products are probably not too bad for software engineers considering they are light on the botnet stuff and totally fucking silent
Shit, i might become an applefag one day
They're pretty heavy too
And what's your better solution?
How much heat can these (E550) things take? It's been getting close to 90 C when playing Dead Space.
Holy shit how did you keep track of that
My T420 is quieter than my XPS 13.
>Thinkpads are the shit:
Okay, I am willing to hear you out
>-They are rock solid
>-Easily replaceable
>-Cheap
>-Core/Librebootable
>But FUCK are they loud
OH you mean that specific older model of thinkpad you bought on ebay
Loudest to quietest
T410>T420>W530>T500>T61
I7-640M, I7-2820QM, I7-3720QM, X9100, X9000
Try using a modern computer instead of a decade old outdated POS you got for $40 on Craigslist
The fans are usually alright if you repast them and put it slightly off centered on your legs so you don't cover the bottom vent
