As good as they have always been.
Motherboard, and interior of the chassis, is still an electrically noisy environment, though.

My mobo has alc1220
Absolutely no issues and the quality is great. Dacs are mostly useless nowadays
Daniel Evans
The motherboards worth buying at around $250 all have transparent dacs. Can plug your JDS atom or magni 3 directly into them and enjoy HiFi
Michael Perez
My 8 years old PC with alc889 sounds perfectly, 0 noise. I checked and it says it's 108 dB SNR. In my search for an upgrade, I've seen many "good" modern mobos with considerably shittier DACs (on paper) than mine, which I think it's the reason mobos are known to be shit at audio, mine never having given me any problems because it was actually good. So if I upgrade I'm looking at alc1150 (115 dB SNR) or better alc1220 (120 db SBR), better than mine on paper, and I suggest you do the same.
Wyatt Gonzalez
none of those reach their rated SNR really, sure the DAC is rated at it, but the DAC alone is not the entire sound system
Josiah Edwards
based, are you using headphone?
Mason Wilson
>not buying a motherboard with an optical output
Parker Fisher
Yes. Sennheiser HD569 (low impedance).
Grayson Howard
i have an x code, it drives a 600ohm set of headphones well and also no hiss. You can also buy MSI boards with 6.3mm jacks, yet there are no sound cards with them.
Charles Cox
my board cost ~$300
