When was the last time you backed up your drive? It could die today and you would cry like a bitch. Don't say I didn't warn you.

My important documents and pictures are backed up once a week to DVD-RW. My RAID storage holds my music and movies, which are ripped from stuff I actually own, so I don't care if they're not backed up. I can always re-rip them.

i have nothing important to backup

I don’t hoard retarded shit like memes and loli hentai so anything lost from my hard drive fucking up would be my OS and a few hours that I spent compiling packages. Also who fucking doesn’t own at least one spare hard drive these days

raid5 server gets quarterly porn and reaction image backups and I use cloud services for moderately important shit

Backup is a monthly procedure, why?
Also what is the best backup method for some broke student with like 6tb to back up?

>Also who fucking doesn’t own at least one spare hard drive these days
You would be surprised.

I backup off the server weekly and to tape monthly.

2 weeks ago. I have a second hard drive I dump all my music too. After that I put it back in its box and underneath my bed.

I would lose only my furry porn collection.

>my OS and a few hours that I spent compiling packages
what a boring life

Two drives and also onedrive so 3 drives :)

I save all my dank memes on an external hdd

Life isn’t all about jacking off to anime girls user. I have a few games installed as well but I’m not worried about my SimCity2k and Quake 3 save files being wiped, I own physical copies(and multiple backups) of those games so I’m not extremely concerned about HDD failure.

No fuck you op

The only thing I would really lose is the time I would spend redownloading stuff. I'd love to reorganize my shit but I'm too lazy to sort it all out given the amount of stuff to go through. A drive failure would finally set me free.

>2019, year of our lord
>not having automatic backups
ISHYGDDT

My data drives are in raid 1 and raid 10 with a UPS setup.

I also have 2tb of cloud storage for life. Only cost $600.

raid isn't backup

I intentionally don't keep backups. I only use ZFS redundancy handling.
I make no effort to destroy my collections but I do not want to obsess over them even if it's tens of terabytes at this point.
If it goes, it goes and it will be for my benefit.

months ago
my backup drive is full but I dont want to delete older backups in case I accidentally deleted somethimg or some of the data in my main drive went bad at some point
what do I do?

Once a week I dd my /home to one of those 128gb samsung usbs

It is when you have 2 systems with it that mirror my data using COW filesystems (zfs on my server and btrf on my desktop)

I keep fresh system images of my OS. Mmy Important personal documents are burned encrypted to DVD's.

Accidentally deleted my 5000 saved meme images from 2018 today. Realized that I had made no backup yet. Managed to recover all of it though. ntfsundelete is truly a gift from god.

Daily

Buy a new drive.

nah i dont need it

I don't backup my whole drive I just back up important and personal data on external USB sticks and hdds and the not so personal on the cloud. I also use syncthing among my devices to always have on me certain files.

All of my important stuff and some of my unimportant stuff is on my desktop in a btrfs RAID1. It gets backed up to a ZFS pool on my NAS. I also keep another copy (on a plain old ext4 filesystem) on two spare drives in my router. So I have three copies but it's not perfect because they're all online and on-site, so if the building burns down I'm kinda fucked. I want to get an RPi and an external drive or something and badger my dad to let me leave it at his place and then occasionally push incrementals to it over the internet. I haven't done this yet since I'm generally pretty cheap and lazy.

I back up my home folder weekly to an external hdd. Is anyone retarded enough to trust an online service with their backups?

I use Google Drive like a normal person.

I have 10 years worth of data on a hard drive (Samsung F3 1TB) that only exists there. Haven't backed it up yet. Livin on the edge

Enjoy the botnet

I am. I'm very much enjoying it. Feels nice to enjoy convenience and ease of use.

I got my BLACKED porn already backed up.
Some of that shit (interviews, amateur cams, bloopers on set) took awhile to find.

I have about 10TB worth of JAV that isn't backed up because I can't afford that much additional storage

>DuckDuckGo
Do you want to know how I know you are from Reddit?

based post, ty

shit better not die today I bought that fucking thing yesterday

my work related shit is on mega, couldnt care less about losing the rest

>backups

Sorry but I'm not a homo, I like to live on the edge, if you know what I mean.

Oh, I'm aware of all the shit giant tech companies do. I just chose to not give a shit because I'm a literal who and I have no political ambitions or anything that would make me powerful.

Must suck being autistic like you. Enjoy your dying HDDs when Google replaces any dead drives for me FOR FREE.

>implying not wanting third parties to handle my data is autistic
>dying HDDs
i backup my data to archival bluray discs. i make at least two copies for each backup, one stored at my home in my safe and the other stored at my work in my desk. each backup is encrypted with a random, 16 character password that only i know and, if necessary, spread over multiple discs. i use parity files to maintain data integrity within each backup in case of a failure.
>FOR FREE
kek, only after they let advertisers peer through your data

Like 3 weeks ago, it's a monthly thing for me.

Digital hoarding is still hoarding.

>only 128 GBs

data, unlike boxes of old newspapers and shit, can't fall over and trap you in the hallway until you die and the smell alerts the neighbors.

>smell alerts the neighbors.
that's a feature!
