awesome lets you customize everything (with LUA), the whole WM except for a small C(?) core is Lua that can be overridden. I think xmonad works similarly but with haskell instead of Lua. Awesome is one of the heaviest wm's though. I use i3, and it is also very customizable using 3rd party ipc connectors (there are different ones for different languages (i use python)). i3 is limited when it comes to visual stuff like window decorations and gaps (if you don't chose the fork i3-gaps). dwm is also very customizable but with C. so it all boils down to your language of choice. I guess bspwm is great togeterh with shell scripts. and lets absolutely not forget wmutils, with those you can make a tiler out of openbox (in theory).

i forgot stumpwm. it is written in lisp, and share a lot of ideas with emacs. and ofc you can override and customize this one like a crazy person too. Also exwm (?) which is a wm you can run withing emacs. so if your are lisper or emacs user those two are very cool.

i didn't say that. and there are several reasons why awesome is heavier. One is that it has alot more features (it can manipulate window decorations much more then any other wm fi). And the second is that it is modular meaning several different Lua modules are being used, instead of one single "program" and this naturally makes it "heavier". But it doesn't matter, this "this wm is the most minimal" meme is stupid, especially when it comes to the tiling wms, they are all (at least the most popular active ones) very "minimal", awesome included. If awesome is "too heavy", any wm is and staying in tty is probably the correct choice.

tiling isn't that great, Openbox is the best floating wm? I'm thinking of leaving dwm for that one of it's as lightweight. I get 5 hours on fedora out of my dwm desktop with light usage. The battery is like 41Wh now so that's less than 10W
