>Going to the Genius bar first thing in the morning to plead my case and explore available options

haha, that's not gonna end well. They're just gonna charge him $2000 ship the computer off to CSAT, whack in a new mobo and call it a day. Shit's still gonna overheat when you he gets it back. I guess fools and their money are easily parted.

interestingly I tried to stress test a 2017 Air (prime95) and it kept turbo for 20 minutes (97C), then I stopped it cuz too much procrastination.

Anyway, 97C is not a good temperature for any laptop.
I'll try to change paste later and check if it overheats less.

Based

>two monitors cause temp spike
dont get me wrong I think apple is shit, but if those monitors have different refresh rates then any laptop gpu will overheat even at idle, this is old behavior that still hasnt been fixed

Can't you shunt mod it to bypass the thermal sensor?

>going to the genius bar, they will surely solve overheating!

what kind of drinks do they serve at the genius bar?

>bypass the thermal sensor

intel turbo boost really is that shitty

yep, 97C.
I was lent a NEW EliteBook 1040 G3 and it reached 93C while doing the same test.
And I thought HP business laptops were better than the consumer crap they sell.
My old T430 doesn't even reach 80C while running the same app.

>Bypass thermal sensor
Easy there bucko, you don't want vital system components getting desoldered from the board.

remote into some beefy xeon to compile, macbooks are for facebook

Even Facebook is enough to make them throttle after a couple of minutes.
(at least they don't seem to slow down on facebook and that is what the average joe expects)

Wena nido.

Wow. The hubris of those filthy jews. It's a surprise such a shit company lasted this long. I hope that pajeet at MS won't bail them out when they go bankrupt like Gates did.
Funny thing is, heating issues in the 80s, heating issues 30some years later. They clearly have not learned and are just riding on the coattails of their idiotic hardcore consumers.

They're good up to like 103c. But yes, all laptops these days have poor qcninclusing "premium" and even business class machines. A repaste should help. Its the reality of cheap chink labor

Eh, I've had worse.
